I remember this all too well. My first year in the band at Southern. We did this trip to Cali the week after the 1994 Bayou Classic. Had a blast out there.
Made this ENTIRE show up in the parking lot of the hotel THAT MORNING, because the changed the venue at the last minute. KILT IT..... Another Time.... Another Breed.

They need to bring back the circle....that to me is what made Southern different. Every band had it unique way and flair back then. Still my favorite band.....I am aSkegee grad
THIS WAS THE FIRST ROUTINE I SAW WITH THE FABULOUS DANCING DOLLS OF SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY AND I WAS FOREVER HOOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOLLS!!!!!!!!!!!!! DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sound travels. Especially across the field, so by the time it reaches the audience it has not suffered. On the field, the up tempo leads to more time for more drills.
James Bondero I also heard one of the band directors say if the songs were played slower like the original recording it would drag and make for a boring show. I've actually seen other bands play certain songs slow and it did drag and was boring. So that's one reason su plays songs fast.
JayWatson87 my siblings went to school at su. They said the head director Doc Isaac Gregg's did not play. He required a lot of the band members. These new directors don't even put as much into field shows anymore. They focus more on battles now days. I know this was a good show but I've seen shows in the 70's and ,80,s that you would not believe. I mean the crowds use to go berserk at bayou classics back in the day. So much better back in the day.
Them fiberglass Tubas OMG😂😂😂😂🚮🚮🚮🚮 can say they best days where with Hayman y'all know who I'm talking about.....recent SU IS BETTER. OMG unnecessary SCREAMING made the show sound like it was in fast forward instead of climatic SMH SU'S MOST RATCHET SHOW....... ratchet dancing....it's like playing Amazing Grace and the trumpets scream the entire song....like why?
This was at the Oakland Coliseum.

This was a great show!!!
I think the band was playing a lil too loud for the solo part. Could hardly hear him.
I agree Vivicah and that's why I don't like to hear singers at these events cause you can't hear em.
why do su play songs so damn fast never understood that about them

Ephesians 4:7/8 I love yah Corey 1995 section leader... Thanks brethren above 500 .
Why does it seem like they are having more fun marching in than bands do now? Now most bands seem stiff and robotic marching in

Social media and government intervention has ruined the ability for instructors to discipline how they see fit.
