I have been using bamboo in modeling, rod making, spar making, and bowmaking for many years. I thought I knew a thing or two. I see now I knew nothing about the material! This is by far the single most usefully informative treatment of the topic i have ever seen. Well done. And thank you.
Yes its quiet ingenious and fortunately once the volcanoes become dormant the replanted planted bamboo tolerates the ash as long as it gets regular rainfall.
Many thanks, in the next video I will show how to bend the bamboo. I use a heat gun and a simple jig to hold the shape and then fiberglass. I have just got to finish editing it, so hopefully this weekend I will post.
Thank you for the vid. Very informative.a lot of foam inside explains to me why 2mm thick bamboo can be enough fir sides. How much glass epoxy you added from inside and outside because looks like quite significant component for adding strength of vaka.
Great video! Understanding bamboo thanks 2u! Lovely build, some cool details too, love the mast step... That Ridgeback seems like keen crew....... happy u joined the proa gang. Keep Shunting broer, Balkan Shipyards.

This is great. Bamboo is so easily replenished. Anyone with a piece of land can plant it and it will thrive.
One day...I will own land.
more video please! love them
Some really interesting information in that episode, love the idea of a volcano alarm 😀

Great info! Thanks!
How do you bended the bamboo yakos to be connected in that smoth curve to the ama? Your job is incredible, but the hull isn't too flexible?

Dankie broer. Haha yes he is my quality inspector, Rufus spent so much time watching what I was doing I think he could build one :)
Bamboo sections are burned during some Balinese Hindu ceremonies. Indeed it makes a nice pop when it explodes.
in which country?
