Emily you're the Number one ShoeTuber How can Hoka justify keeping you waiting so long for this shoe is beyond me. I trust your reviews more than any other RUclipsr. HOKA you really need to step up your game!
It’s an interesting time to be in with the rise of super trainers in the SC Trainer from NB, the Mach X from Hoka, the Superblast from ASICS, the Boston 12 from Adidas, and the OG Endorphin Speed from Saucony (Nike’s offerings with the Zoom Tempo Next% and Zoom Fly are clear flops). Love that there are now plated shoe options for runners that aren’t able to use the carbon plated super shoes. It’ll be interesting comparison to do with the current super trainer offerings.
I tried the Mach X at a Hoka sponsored shakeout run and I agree that it's really comfortable both for step-in and on the run. But I found for me that it's too soft to do any kind of speedwork, and I didn't really think the foam/plate was helping even at my marathon effort. So $180 seems like a lot to ask for just a cruiser shoe, at least for my preferences and budget. 🤷♂
I bought these and have around 55 miles in them. I agree that it's hard to do speed work in them as they just feel too clunky to get good turnover. The plate is meh
I wanted to ❤ this shoe (cuz pretty!/I’m shallow). I just didnt. Can’t really put my finger on why, but I could not wait to get it off my feet. That’s why there’s all kinds of kinds of running shoes.
I agree with your assessment that it’s a comfortable daily trainer with a little bit of pop. That is how I use the shoe and I love it. It’s very comfortable and the Hoka rocker geometry is my favorite. Would not race in the shoe.
I haven’t watched yet. But my opinion is a nah at full price. There are better shoes at their MSRP. I put 30 miles in mine and I feel like they should have been priced at $140-150.
I liked the Hoka Bondi 8 but I wore it out too fast walking 70+ miles per week they were only lasting 3 to 4 weeks. I quit buying them and just recently I went to fleet feet and they wanted me to try on a Hoka shoe that was new not this one but it was TERRIBLE!!!! I have just decided to leave Hoka alone for a while. I am really liking the new On Cloudsurfer in mint and orange I love everything about that shoe but it just needs a wide version asap I had to give my dad my pair because they are too narrow for me and it makes me sad but hey I got tons of shoes with my new found shoe fetish lol I now own 4 pairs of nikes Invincible 2 and 3 and a pair of the wind flows, and the Zoomfly 5. I also have the New Balance SCT v1, more v4s, and the lace less 1080v12 when I saw them on sale from 159 to 69 I snagged 3 pairs!1 for me and my mother and father for mothers and fathers day! oh I also had just ordered the SCT v2 but I have only went shopping at the mall I have not had time to walk miles in it but I already love it. I think I still like the V1 better. anyways keep making great videos love to watch!
I agree. These are really comfortable out of the box and for walking but wasn't impressed while running. They're just...there. kinda bulky. Also, my posterior tibial tendinitis flared up during my initial run. I'm returning them.
Great review. One thing I want to point out - I love that this is a plated shoe that doesn’t fit super low volume or super narrow. It’s nice to be able to just walk into a running store and buy these without praying there’s a 2E option. Because they won’t have it in 2e.
How do you feel about this plate compared to TPU plated shoes, like the speed 3? I think general consensus so far is not as aggressive as carbon but I know Matt from Doctors of Running said the PEBAX plate is actually pretty stiff, suggesting it falls between a TPU and Carbon stiffness.
where were you this morning? I usually wake up on Sunday. Have coffee with runlike heller! video appears 3 hours later.... what the Heck... weather is hot 🥵. That's my every day run here in Santo Domingo.. Love this country. not for running though...
Thanks for this! Would you say that the Novablast would perform better while still protecting your feet if planning on using them for a marathon? Hoping for 4hrs 30mins but not surprised if I get closer to 5 hrs cos the morale is LOW right now. Thanks!
I have over 50 miles on the mach x, and I am enjoying it more. I find it's getting bouncier, whereas the super comp trainer is losing its bounce. I like the flexible tpu plate as it doesn't feel as harsh as the carbon fiber plate. I should mention I'm coming off a stress fracture, and so I'm leary of carbon fiber plates because I developed it wearing a plated racer. I have run a 10 mile built run in this shoe, and it helped me up the hills but also made running downhill less jarring. Yesterday, I ran a 5k in the rain in this shoe and worked fine. I wasn't going for a pr, but it was good for a tempo run shoe. I'll wear the mach x next week for a half because they are comfortable and easy to forget about. Something I noticed is I had to go down a half size. I'm a 9 in the super comp v2 but an 8.5 in mach x. I also have wide-ish feet, and they fit me fine. Anyway, I just said a lot. My point was that they work well and get better over time.
I find I agree with rwh on most of her opinions. She’s great. Tried them all last week. As a 215lb “jogger” the nbscv2 will feel like it’s bottoming out n u will feel it under the fat pad n toes especially. Kinvara pro actually not that bad but think that it does run a lil firm. The insole is what makes it soft. I think ur paying $180 for that midsole. I bought the Mach x. I’m not fast at all n no plans to race at all. Maybe a yearly 5k Turkey day trot. Mach x good for easy runs. I wanted something a little peppier than my Glideride 3s That I luv but hear they’re not making a gr4. not really Cush but pleasant n doesn’t jar my bod. U do feel the super foam when/if u foot strike correctly. I really noticed the superfoam when I was walking up the steps to my house so that’s what I mean about where ur foot hits it correctly. They all fit true to my running size 11.5. The Mach x is also pretty light for that size. Btw find a store that does first responder military teacher student discount n at least get 10% off. Mach is worth $162. Also tried ASICS 10:50 super blast with first responder 30% off so $140 but really didn’t c the hype. I have scv1. It’s ok but heavy. Basically if ur an average runner the Mach x is pretty good n alternating with the ASICS gr3 is a good rotation.
@@mrsatter5575I have to disagree with your analysis of the nbscv2. I’m 225 lbs and jog a slow 9-10 min mile pace and I have never felt like they are bottoming out. The Mach x is meh. Feels similar to the new balance propel v4 but slightly squishier. I definitely have buyers remorse with the Mach x.

Thanks for this very thorough and honest review, Emily!
The standard eva seemed like it would reduce the wow factor in it. Thanks for keeping it real!! This is why I come to you

I abandoned Hoka after enjoying the Mach4 but finding other brands working better for me. I enjoy all your reviews nevertheless! Nice necklace🎉
Great review.

Was waiting for your review but bought it anyway to hopefully PR next weekend 10k
Wow, your statement at the end might be THE best description of this Summer’s weather.
10:23 Stating distance times provides a pace inclusive review. More of this would be appreciated across the board.
What is your favorite super trainer (max cushion and plated) this year? Would like know how you rank them.
She always mentions the nb sc trainer version 1
Plus based on her previous video I'm sure that's probably still up there with here favorites
I think I would rank them from favorite to least favorite:
-sc trainer v2
-Mach x
-Kinvara pro
-ASICS hyper speed 3
@@RunLikeHeller thank you. I'm so glad I took your advice and got the SC Trainer V1. I'll definitely check out V2
Good review.
I want this shoe, but I will not pay that amount of money for it!

Yes it’s certainly stiff. I think the speeds plate is more noticeable
Love the Mach 5 and looking forward to try the Mach X

Sorry! Late to post today because of my LR!
This shoe has grown on me after the initial 20 miles.
Great job on video! What???? No Rubster photo bombing in background wearing portable a/c unit around her neck??
😂
Good morning to you good night to us❤
thank you for another video :)

I like this better than the novablast so I’m going with yes!
@@RunLikeHeller this is extremely helpful 🫶🏽🫶🏽 Thank you 🙏🏽
How would you compare this to a Clifton 9?
I think this shoe is more fun than the Clifton 9 but both are solid and get the job done

Mach X vs Kinvara Pro vs SC V2????? Most versatile for anything. 9:30 pace
