Love the 5 best/5 worst feature breakdown. It's so detailed and nit picky that I know you've looked at the car critically. I don't get that from any other reviewer. Wish you were on Top Gear. Keep it up Mat.
Man, this has an ST steering wheel, awesome wheels, and a manual transmission...all things we can’t get in America. Now there are going to be zero Focus’ in the states :(
The 2017 Focus comes with SYNC 3 , which in my opinion is clearly the best infotainment system from it's class , in this video it was the SYNC 2 , one of the slowest systems i could see
i really don't get why everyone is hating on the car... i own one since 2 years and i haven't had any problems with it in those two years. also the window in the backseats is the same as in the front seats. i think it looks really nice and yeah, the interior could be better but thats what you get for the price. period.
I've owned the current model Focus since it was released in November 2014, and Matt I have to disagree with every negative point you made about the focus. cheap feeling steering wheel! no headroom in the back! I'm 6' 3" and sometimes travel in the back and my head doesn't touch the ceiling. it's a very quiet ride on 17" wheels and is brilliantly screwed together. 20 months and 43,000 miles and not a single squeak or rattle. And if you want or need a bigger boot buy an estate car. A Focus estate!
I own this car for almost two years, exact same color, titanium 1-liter eco boost with 16". much more comfortable and no need to worry about hitting curbs. I would say, according to the today's standard, infotainment system and interior "could be" better. But folks, this model around 18K euros. it comes with very refined driving pleasure, Sony sound system, automatic pilot parking, start and stop, reverse camera, sensors everywhere, and other standard equipment for titanium trim, folding mirrors, led interior lights, daytime running lights and list goes on. Also ford focus has good reliability records. Stop complaining if you don't know. buy something else if you don't like the brand or model. period!
Another great review. Have a 2012 Focus myself and I find it brilliant. I really like this new design on the zetec s and will consider buying one for sure.
Not a bad review Mat! The Focus is about the best you can get for that money. I rented 4 cars in 3 months (inc a Focus) when I sold my 2006 Audi a4 and have just bought a 2017 Ford Focus St line.1.0 Ecoboost. It's a lovely car to look at, sync 3 is actually very good. Driving position is great. Fuel economy is average so think twice about a 1.0 and maybe go for the 1.5 as Mat said. Rear windows are wind up? Ford.....WTF were you thinking? Road noise at speed is not great but all in all i am happy and give it 7/10. Yes the VW and Audi's are better but i would have had to spend close to £20k for one to spec, this cost me £14k.
I have a 2016 Focus Ecoboost 1.0 Titanium. It's a superb car for it's size and will tackle all weather conditions with no hessitation. I've driven through flooded roads and deep snow with no problems. The driver's seat is very comfortable and doesn't cause aches on long journeys. I get about 50 mpg from the 1 litre engine which is pretty good. The display shows fuel economy of 70mpg or more. It's well built and if you you fit Mitchelin tyres, you don't get much road noise. I have my Focus serviced by a Ford dealer and they know all my car's history and only fit genuine Ford parts.
I just got myself a 2015 focus. Absolutely love it. As a single guy with little to no friends who need lifts (all my friends also drive). I can't fault the car in any way

Ford of Canada has to basically give them away here because of that horrible PowerShift dry dual-clutch transmission. Just bought this one as the 2018 ST-Line version, with the 1.5. Couldn't test the car for sporty handling on my test drive obviously, so its great to hear it matches my interest then.
this car is awesome, I have the '16 with auto. it drives better than any car I've ever had and I'm 67, it has the automatic and the shuddering when you take off mostly in city driving. we live in the country and that rarely comes up. it has over 100k on it now and still drives same as new. the wife picked it out and didn't like the look of the hatchback and got the sedan. big mistake. get the hatch! loading and unloading the trunk is night and day. on ours the rear window goes so far back the opening is too small. on the back roads this thing drives like a sports car. the power is amazing for such a small car. the only thing I had to fix so far was when the trunk struts gave out
I have the fourth Focus now. The last one is a station car (they all have been) 2012. And I must say it’s the best car I’ve ever had. So smooth and comfortable to drive. Really impressed that three cylinders 1,0 litres can give so much effect.

As 6”1 I had to move the seat all the way back to accommodate my legs and arms nicely, and in such a position the B (central) pillar appears at the line of my head, completely covering my side view, so if I wanna look into the driver's side window, I have to lean forward - that's no good

@@malizec7793 I have the petrol engine 1.0L Ecoboost Titanium. My review would be that it's an overall great car. Easy to drive and to navigate around the controls. Decent power to get off the mark quicker and enough grunt to not feel like the engine is roaring when it's on fast roads. Generally good on fuel and not too expensive to tax. It's a good car.
@@DRM1891 Thank you 😊. My parents have 2005 focus 1.6 gasoline, and before that focus we have ford escort 1.6 also gasoline. So I really love Ford, and I wish to buy focus mk3 but I don't know how good 1.0ecoboos engine is, there are some problems with car like with every car, so I try find as much info I can before I choose mk3 or mk2 focus.
thanks Bosch.I really don't know why people criticize ecosport specially the ecoboost.I also have a sedan and trust me it keeps kissing the bad roads of India. The thing I like about my ecosport is that it has the handling characteristics of a fiesta and ground clearance of an SUV plus a 6ft2inch guy can fit in easily
Hi, did you notice the clunking noise in the drive system when changing gears 1> 2>3. I have on mine and Ford say it is a normal characteristic? What a cop out...
This is a nice, good looking Ford Focus. What years versions of Ford Focus (e.g. 2017, 2016, etc) come with the same back tail lights that hug the sides of the car?? will appreciate any reference on the matter. Thanks...
Great review Mat! Not sure if you're aware of this, but the entry level focus here in Ireland is even more archaic. It has black plastic door handles, a 3 inch (if even) dot matrix display behind the wheel and a tiny strip in the middle of the dash in lieu of the small screen you guys get. Plus the interior is pitch black. Stingy of Ford really!
So do UK spec cars still get the dual clutch auto? The updated model in Australia have gone back to a traditional torque converter auto. The dual clutch was deemed incredibly unreliable and currently a massive lawsuit against Ford in Australia atm. Focus sales have suffered consequently..
Honestly, the 4 inch SYNC infotainment system(Not the monocolor one) is way better the SYNC 2, the one presented in this video. It is fast and simple and does everything the big one does. Navi is a bit awkward to use, but no one uses it nowadays tbh.
They're great little cars. I have a 2014 1.0 Ecoboost Titanium and being a 17 year old it's my first car. It's absolutely brilliant, great to look at, great and easy to drive and cheap to insure!
You'll change your mind when you've driven an Ecoboost Focus! The Leon is good to drive but the Focus is miles better. don't get me started about the Golf...boring, ugly, not that good to drive, unreliable...
+BoschExxcel no it's not we have a fiesta and a golf and a A6 and the fiesta is the one that costs the most to run the ecoboost also has awful MLG worse then our A6 which gets the claimed 56mpg also you have to service the ford every 10,000 miles but with a diesel it's 20,000 which makes any Audi cheaper to own and the golf gets 70mpg and the quality is far better and so is the technology not to mention ford cars are worth nothing after a few years but any German car would be worth around £2000 more for the same class car e.g the polo afte two years with the same amount of miles and list price is worth £2000 more

Heard a lot about the 1.l ecoboost was looking to buy a Titanium version around 2017 following on from my 1.6 MK2 . Im concerned the engine would struggle and with the turbo there could be more wear in the engine. The one I'd go for would be the 125 bhp . Honest question is this a good replacement as would also need to add dash cam and rear view camera would these additions work on the tft screen. Thank you
Are the door cards really cheap that it actually hurt of you flick? I tried that on a Mk1 Focus zetec and it didn't hurt at all (mainly because it had leather on it)
titanium trim is way better than this spec, you get so much more, especially soft plastics like the top of the dash, on the top of the doors, also all round electric windows, speed limiter is great when going a long way through average speed cameras :). just wish i'd gone titanium x, privacy glass and the better lights plus heated seats and steering wheel. but any spec you still get great handling :)
So would it be a better decision to buy zetec/"st-line" focus 1.5 tdci 120hp now, or wait another year and hope next focus will be here by end of 2017 and it wont be more expensive?
Sure it could, but as I dont get any discounts on renaults so megane ends up considerably more expensive. I'll likely wait a bit more and see if some news emerge about next focus. If it wont be here by end of 2017 then this exact same one from video might be it. I know its by many aspects inferior car to new Megane, but it is quite a lot cheaper for me which helps with financing and resale value.
If this had a Peugeot or Hyundai badge the comments section would be ripping it to shreds. Cheaply made, tired design, not very practical, crap infotainment...must do better Ford!
The car been reviewed ain't entry level in either the UK or Ireland. The Zetec s is a mid spec car with a body kit now called the ST line. Only the top spec Titanium/ Titanium s has electric windows all around as standard. Ford penny pinching at its best.
just drove a 2108 focus se and amazed at the absence of direct road feel, we have a 2003 focus se and the steering puts the new one to shame. you can FEEL the wheels and what they are doing in the older one...the newer feels disconnected isolated and the assist is way too much... otherwise, power feels ok, alittle lowend grunt right off the bottom, smooth mid range , abit growly and rough at the top...good pull similiar to my 94 probe gt but the probe may win in a drag race...seating felt tall, ride quality felt cocoon like quiet when just cruising around..instruments , lackluster, easily forgetable nothing special for the eyes at all...handling ok but ive felt way better, that steering doesnt help
lets hope the issues/short-falls get resolved in the MK4 in 2018. All September models should have SYNC 3 (QNX), that car being looked at seems to still be SYNC 2 (Microsoft) - really needs screens to be flush like Mondeo and other rivals, too much of a dust magnet. I do like the Magnetic colour paint, pity its not available on the ST instead of the crap Stealth/Battleship Grey/Primer.
I own a 2017 Titanium Focus. On long spins I do get occasional leg and bum ache....it seems the base on the Titanium spec seats is more inclined than on Zetec models...has anyone else found this?
I got a focus sel 2018 exactly like this one but in Canada all SEL come with the DCT... i would of love the sel look with the manual transmission😪 still a fun car to drive with dexent power for it class. Maybe i'll get the ST next year 😍

But when i look at this new one, it feels more like a business hatchback, not a fun and reliable workhorse. I'd like to drive it and compare one day...
I believe that the ford focus in some areas is much better than the astra and the equipment levels are better in the astra only the top spec ones have an armrest and the SRI astra has no dual zone climate control therefore the astra is only better if you get the top spec one and you only get an 8 inch screen on NAV models which is mean however its more spacious than the ford but hay ho the new focus is out soon and the astra is to be updated soon let's hope they give it better equipment
That’s not a 2017 one that’s the 2015 because it doesn’t have sync 3 as standard that is sync 2 we have a 2016 titanium x and I tell you what it’s amazing it comes with Heated and cooled seats rear parking camera Bluetooth phone connectivity all electric windows 16” alloys and Fords sync 3 system as standard. £9,000-£15,000 with the pro pack which includes heated steering wheel apple car play and an 1.5 eco boost Diesel engine that can average up to 56 mile to the gallon
Well it has a smaller boot, the exterior of the car although longer from front to back is narrower and shorter in height then the previous mk2/2.5. To be honest I never felt the mk3/3.5 was enough of a upgrade on the previous mk2.5. In my opinion the Mk2.5 is the best looking Ford Focus to date.
+James Carroll definitely agree that the mk2.5 was the best shape. although I don't really like the front of that one, I have a mk2.1 with the older headlights but more aggressive bumpers and I think it looks much better than the 2.5. but the rest is good!

Did you have any problems with engine, or with other stuff, how much kilometer did you make with him. Im looking for 1.0 ecoboost but nobody from my friend drive 1.0 they use onli diesel. Thank you
@@malizec7793 I have the petrol engine 1.0L Ecoboost Titanium.
Wow, that's lousy!
+carwow impressive car though! Ford fan here...
3:16 no rear electric windows? That's a bit mean...
Bad/annoying things section is my favorite! Nice touch, never seen this before!
They're great little cars. I have a 2014 1.0 Ecoboost Titanium and being a 17 year old it's my first car. It's absolutely brilliant, great to look at, great and easy to drive and cheap to insure!
No, It's not as good looking as a Seat Leon nor does it have the build quality of a Golf.
You'll change your mind when you've driven an Ecoboost Focus! The Leon is good to drive but the Focus is miles better. don't get me started about the Golf...boring, ugly, not that good to drive, unreliable...
+BoschExxcel no it's not we have a fiesta and a golf and a A6 and the fiesta is the one that costs the most to run the ecoboost also has awful MLG worse then our A6 which gets the claimed 56mpg also you have to service the ford every 10,000 miles but with a diesel it's 20,000 which makes any Audi cheaper to own and the golf gets 70mpg and the quality is far better and so is the technology not to mention ford cars are worth nothing after a few years but any German car would be worth around £2000 more for the same class car e.g the polo afte two years with the same amount of miles and list price is worth £2000 more
@@BoschExxcel is the car dead yet
No glossy plastic is a huge plus in my book
Definitely, that stuff attracts dirt and scratches way too easily.

Thanks for this great review i hope to see the new seat leon soon
12V sockets are standard in the boot these days? I've never owned a car newer than 2003 so I guess that's why I've never noticed.
Better than the Astra for driving pleasure...but shame the entry level one doesn't have cruise control
It's become relevant for me in 2020!, thanks Mat! 😁🤭
Thank you
No
@@colm112 well they did fit well and work perfectly. The reverse camera is great.
@@chrissing64 mine don’t got a camera how sad
I don't understand why Ford still sells Sync 2.0 in Europe when North America has moved on from MyFord Touch/Sync 2.0 to Sync 3.0.
a car is practical for car wow if it has cupholders but what about the shitty headroom.
Are the door cards really cheap that it actually hurt of you flick? I tried that on a Mk1 Focus zetec and it didn't hurt at all (mainly because it had leather on it)
+Maqsud Rezwan I think you may have just answered your own question...
carwow I was asking about the current Focus; the one I flicked was an 04 plate
Can't wait to see the St lines review
Strange, the first few seconds were sharp and the rest of the video was blurred.
Can’t wait to get this for my first car in April God Willing!!
What I dont like about the focus series is the rounded roof ending down the rear.
titanium trim is way better than this spec, you get so much more, especially soft plastics like the top of the dash, on the top of the doors, also all round electric windows, speed limiter is great when going a long way through average speed cameras :). just wish i'd gone titanium x, privacy glass and the better lights plus heated seats and steering wheel. but any spec you still get great handling :)
Woohoo, I've found Matt again!
Welcome
So would it be a better decision to buy zetec/"st-line" focus 1.5 tdci 120hp now, or wait another year and hope next focus will be here by end of 2017 and it wont be more expensive?
Test drive the new Megane with the 1.5-litre diesel. It may change your mind
That's true - on carwow the Focus has nearly double the saving of the Megane. Have you tried configuring a Focus through the website?
Prices are different in Croatia so I'm using local Ford web.
If this had a Peugeot or Hyundai badge the comments section would be ripping it to shreds. Cheaply made, tired design, not very practical, crap infotainment...must do better Ford!
Respectfully disagree.
The car been reviewed ain't entry level in either the UK or Ireland. The Zetec s is a mid spec car with a body kit now called the ST line. Only the top spec Titanium/ Titanium s has electric windows all around as standard. Ford penny pinching at its best.
I used to have a Nissan Bluebird 1.6 LX saloon 1989F with Central locking PAS sunroof&4 electric windows.
mipmipmipmipmip i wish cars still had roll up windows all around. I dont care for power windows.
JScot92 There's nothing wrong with the info system. It works great & don't know what planet you're living on. :/
Mat... do a 2014 Kuga vs. 2018 Kuga and pick which one you'd drive...
What's the name of these Ford wheels on this focus?
just drove a 2108 focus se and amazed at the absence of direct road feel, we have a 2003 focus se and the steering puts the new one to shame. you can FEEL the wheels and what they are doing in the older one...the newer feels disconnected isolated and the assist is way too much... otherwise, power feels ok, alittle lowend grunt right off the bottom, smooth mid range , abit growly and rough at the top...good pull similiar to my 94 probe gt but the probe may win in a drag race...seating felt tall, ride quality felt cocoon like quiet when just cruising around..instruments , lackluster, easily forgetable nothing special for the eyes at all...handling ok but ive felt way better, that steering doesnt help
Brilliant car, and love the new look...
lets hope the issues/short-falls get resolved in the MK4 in 2018.
Driving a 2014 titanium.still dont see a car that is offering enough for me to think about switching.
Is that winding windows in the back of a top spec 2016 car?
I own a 2017 Titanium Focus. On long spins I do get occasional leg and bum ache....it seems the base on the Titanium spec seats is more inclined than on Zetec models...has anyone else found this?
Does 2017 Trend model come with Cruise Control?
I got a focus sel 2018 exactly like this one but in Canada all SEL come with the DCT... i would of love the sel look with the manual transmission😪 still a fun car to drive with dexent power for it class. Maybe i'll get the ST next year 😍
PLEASE contact Ford Customer Service. If all their customers are telling them, they'll listen and bring us BACK by popular demand these best-in-class driver's hatches. There's a reason these cars are best-sellers in Europe, they are the best cars to drive in this price range and have the best shifting manual gearbox too! Thank you for your support in this petition effort!
I have a 2006 focus, not a perfect car but perfect for me, i just love to drive it, for me fun is more important than comfort or non-safety related texhnology. But when i look at this new one, it feels more like a business hatchback, not a fun and reliable workhorse. I'd like to drive it and compare one day...
What about the availability and the cost of parts in Lebanon
I believe that the ford focus in some areas is much better than the astra and the equipment levels are better in the astra only the top spec ones have an armrest and the SRI astra has no dual zone climate control therefore the astra is only better if you get the top spec one and you only get an 8 inch screen on NAV models which is mean however its more spacious than the ford but hay ho the new focus is out soon and the astra is to be updated soon let's hope they give it better equipment
Can we agree that this is a decent car?
That’s not a 2017 one that’s the 2015 because it doesn’t have sync 3 as standard that is sync 2 we have a 2016 titanium x and I tell you what it’s amazing it comes with Heated and cooled seats rear parking camera Bluetooth phone connectivity all electric windows 16” alloys and Fords sync 3 system as standard. £9,000-£15,000 with the pro pack which includes heated steering wheel apple car play and an 1.5 eco boost Diesel engine that can average up to 56 mile to the gallon
sooo... you re telling me that a one litre focus has a better rear suspension than a civic type r?
Will you be doing a Mondeo review anytime soon?
Mat should do only vw reviews where everything is PERFECT .............
any experiences with the 1.0tl ecoboost? good? bad?
the Focus seems to getting smaller? it used to be a bigger car. sometimes I mistake it for a fiesta and they're supposed to be much bigger
This shape does seem smaller than the previous generation, but I feel it's much more in proportion than before.
