    A few issues need to be clarified here, for those not aware of bikes, 1 litre race bikes produce around 230 bhp, production with a warranty around 180 mark, though more important for heavy cars is the torque figure. The advantage of a boosted motor is that when it is off boost it drinks like it's capacity, but there is no such thing as a free lunch, so when it is on song it will drink the fuel to make the power. Therefore most drivers drive on a light throttle, so will reap the economy, bury the pedal and the economy will suffer in order to achieve the power.

  • @twoeightythreez
    @twoeightythreez 6 лет назад +7

    I drove one, and it convinced me to compromise on features and color, but allowed me to get the 2.0 engine with the 5 speed. I get 40mpg with it.
    I doubt the 3cyl could do better, particularly since I live in hilly Pennsylvania, and commute to work in hilly North New Jersey. The 4 cylinder works hard enough on these hills...i feel that that poor little 3 would be working its nuts off and efficiency would suffer greatly.

      The Ecoboost engines are Eco or Boost not both as the engine suggests, if you drive like an old Lady it will be fuel efficent but your average driver will get terrible fuel consumption from these 3 pot ecoboost engines.

    Well I listened to the reviews and thought Wow so bought a 2017 plate 1.0L Titanium during the Pandemic. This is what I found.
    The car was reasonably priced at £10,000, 32,000 miles visiting dealers and doing test drives was difficult, due to the restrictions. I needed a car as my previous MK2 focus had been written off. The test drive was good and the car picked up well, the privacy tinting sounded good as did the tyre pressure monitoring system. in fact all those little gizmos that come with a new car. However it does take time to get to know a car and change from a previous vehicle can be strange.
    Considering the Titanium is a higher spec car, mine came without the folding mirrors no Biggy but I would have thought theses would have been standard now. The sensor cluster behind the mirror is quite large and does obscure your vision in my opinion . I've been stopped at traffic lights and not seen them change to green. The tinting is good by day however at night it does limit vision when reversing. It does come with reverse parking sensors so that's good. But I've still managed to reverse into railings because the sensors didn't pick up the obstruction. But ill mark that up to my poor driving.
    I've looked at fitting a reversing camera, again difficult as the sync 3 system has to be programmed to accept it and there has to be some changes to the wiring loom. A Ford dealer can fit for you at just over £500, so not that cheap an option unless you want a separate screen. Whilst on the subject of cameras, fitting a dash cam also presents problems, due to the sensor cluster on the windscreen the positioning is more to the left than central.
    Other areas that are annoying are the keyless entry, it can't be turned off. The stop / start also cant be just turned off it has to be done every time you get in the car. Just because a car has a feature it doesn't mean you have to use it every time. The 1,0L engine is economical however it does sound grumpy in the lower gears my previous 1.6 Mk2 sound tinny so again something ti get used to. The Eco boost sounds more like a diesel.
    It is a nice car but needs more refinement to add accessories you shouldn't have to be reliant on a main dealer and their marked up prices. It is a nice car and lovey to drive but there are the annoying factors and my main bug bear was no spare wheel, jack or towing eye, which have now been purchased. I've had several Fords and found them reliable and kept them around 10 yrs each and wouldn't have changed my MK2 except for the accident not my fault by the way. Will I keep this car as long as the others probably not .
    To be honest if it wasn't for the pandemic and being restricted in movements, unable to do proper test drives and feeling pressured to have a car for work. I would probably taken much more time looking this is however down to me and I can't blame anyone else.
    One last note the sync 3 navigation system is slow and could be much better there's no reason Ford cant improve it as it connects to wifi. The voice commands are hit or miss.
    All in all its a nice car with impressive features on paper that in reality turn out to be just mediocre average. My advice if you have a Mk 2 look after it 😀👍.

    Hi Lacey Film: I am aware that the 'real' mpg for small engine turboed cars are particularly disappointing. This is precisely because one has to really rev the engines to unleash the power into bands which are not ideal. This is mostly because they don't have low range torque. Interestingly it is high powered exotica which give real mpg closer to official values (even exceeding it occasionally). I drive a Golf GTI and a torquey diesel van. It is the van which wins in town any day. I love it.

    These little turbo engines are everywhere now. They are clearly impressive, competing with the economy of diesels. They do lack the torque of the diesels, which matters. Perhaps the best compromise is say a 1.2 to 1.4 litre with 150ps. You would have more torque and still be pretty economic.

    • @LaceyFilm
      @LaceyFilm 7 лет назад

      David Hayes look up the real MPG of these cars are you'll see how uncompetitive they are.

    • @kelvinfoote9897
      @kelvinfoote9897 6 лет назад

      David Hayes I can vouch for what LaceyFilm says.. well sort of. I have a Ford C Max 1.6 Ecoboost ( which is a little bigger than your suggested engine range) , which only delivers around 34 mpg all round. Whilst not bad for a 7 seater people carrier, it still doesn't come close to matching the old 2.0 litre diesel version for economy. Originally the motor was the 148hp one, but it's now been re-mapped to 195 hp ( stage 1). Now, having a much quicker car, with the mid-range torque of a pretty good 2 litre , goes some way towards making up for the disappointing economy.

    • @gravemind6536
      @gravemind6536 5 лет назад

      The 116hp 1.2 4 cyclinder petrol in my Toyota has the same kind of power delivery of a Diesel loads of low down Torque and in the city it gets 42MPG on average about 50MPG and on the Motorway it will do 60MPG.

    • @bensmithkent22
      @bensmithkent22 3 года назад

      Run an astra k a s a second car its got a 1.4 in it making a claimed 148bhp. Its perfectly adequate and pulls well enough in 6th without need for a downchange at mway speeds on the flat. No loading of the engine. Its light too. Its not a warm hatch of a car by any means but it can be made to shift pretty convincingly if you work it. Against my other diesel saloon making 190bhp i really cant say there is all that much in it performance wise below 100 and lets be fair nobody drives above that. Compared to my old jag xe 180 the astra was faster imo.

Most miles have been covered in the 90 PS 900 cc Dacia Sandero (my in-laws) which does need to be revved. The Ford engine is, I agree, supposed to be very good. It is not cheap! Likewise the 115 ps Golf 1 litre is a lot pricier than the normally aspirated 85 PS 1.2 but that is a non-starter! If your 1.4 turbo petrol is the 150 PS version, it is a real gem, appearing in the Q3

Also more to go wrong with a turbo charger fitted, compared to a normally aspirated engine. Time will tell I guess, but for me, bigger is better, without having to rely on something or someone blowing wind up your arse.

    • @gravemind6536
      @gravemind6536 3 года назад

      @@kristoffer3000 Yeah I imagine besides it being lighter, feeling low quailtiy and being awful in crash test it will also be far slower. I am not a big fan of the 1.0 ecoboost especially on the earlier models but it beats anything Ford did in the lates 90's with the mk1 he is also comparing NA engines to turbo charged engines. You have to drive turbo engines differently to NA to get better fuel economy. With NA engine you have to drive higher RPMs than turbo so if you from NA to Turbo and drive the same then yeah the fuel economy is probably not going to be better or even get worse.

    Avoid 1.0 ecoboosts. They have a wet timingbelt, which costs a lot to replace. Also the timing belts often block oil circulation with bits of rubber and causing the engine to break. These are not reliable engines.

    • @youlol7331
      @youlol7331 Месяц назад

      They are very reliable if you know how to maintain them. Most known issues are easy to avoid, and ~€700 for a belt change along with a water pump etc. after 100k km doesn't seem expensive to me at all...
