I love you freedom. My dad b.1925 was plaqued with appendicitis as kid, they did have $ to pay. Anyway he learned to sew. Dresses for his sisters dolls. After retirement he made prom dresses (1 was a copy of a dress from a high end dress store) and we even made a wedding dress for a cousin. Of course we made the dresses for our family for my wedding, I made mine. Dad's grandmother was a trained seamstress so she taught her skill to her daughters. The 5th generation, my daughter went to college to be a fashion designer. I think there is something in our genes! My mom made quilts to keep us warm. She knew fabric was straight when torn, so she tore it. Dad hated the sound! I taught a 5 year old to sew on my sewing machine this past summer. They were across the street& in our bubble. He made an apron for his mom with some raw edge applique. He was very well controlled with the foot pedal from the start, I was surprised. They have moved so I've lost my apprentice. Maybe he will come back when he gets in his teens. You have wonderful style and teach so well. I will try your methods.
I'm reminded of the 50's and 60's when the fabric stores measured fabric with those machines that cut a nick in the selvage. The clerk then ripped the fabric. Torn exactly on the cross grain, two people could stretch from the corners if there was any misalignment of the grain. From a small town, we either made our school clothes or bought them from the Montgomery Ward catalog (Ugly and ill fitting LOL). Thanks for making these videos!
I didn't catch this live but watched it later, just loved the demo, tearing the fabric and not having to be concerned with seams. Can't wait till things are up and running again so I can buy the dancing squares pattern. I still need a pattern. I used to watch Alex years ago on simply quilts, so glad I found her and again, and you are a double bonus. You have both made me laugh and cry. Just can't get enough of you two.
I am about 1 1/2 hours from Lenoir. I have to chuckle whenever folks who arent from here pronounce Lenoir the same as famous painter Renoir. Gotta say I love ripping fabric strips
I was taught to rip fabric when I was in college early 1980's to put it on straight of grain. I love ripping!!! But this tech. is so awesome. I have never tried something like this, but can't wait to give it a try. Now to go buy batik's, and/or dye some of my own. : )
Love this! I am currently teaching my grandson how to sew...he’s great and so cautious about everything. This ripping fabric might stress him more. Lol. I couldn’t do this with him but I LOVE IT! Thank you for sharing.
Watching this presentation made me smile. You are so creative. This looks like fun, but I don't know if I am as daring as you are. However, as I write that I am thinking about some fun places where I could try it. Stay safe and thank you for another interesting presentation!

Is there a video about dyeing fabric to create the amazing patches of colours? I absolutely love the Chantel quilts and these dancing squares 🥰😍🇬🇧 Why haven’t I found these videos before 😳
Thank you Ricky, getting closer to having my quilting mojo back. I need to finish a baby quilt for a now 1 yo. It started with alphabet block fabric which I've cut apart into individual alphabet blocks to get the baby name and other words. Advice please on how to take these centers and make Dancing Squares out of them? Promise I'll try to rip the other fabric needed for the boarders.
So much fun Ricky! Love you 💙🥂🥂🥂
So happy I discovered you.
Now I know what to fo to obtain those crazy squares all over a quilt. I’ve always wondered.
