Fantastic! When I started cycling more seriously 3 years ago I found the wonderful GCN. Then when I decided to start running just over a year ago I found the equally fabulous GTN. How cool to see Dan crossing over. I am planning to do a 1/2 marathon in April, thank you for giving me a training plan!
I respect Dan for running even though he's an avid cyclist. I've recently got into running myself. I stay warmer during winter running vs being on the bike.
Dan, congratulations on this goal. Very big fan of Gcn and Gtn. I myself started as a road racer 10km/half/Marathon/ultras then transition into duathlon and the to Half-Ironman to ironman. So you got my respect and now #getshitdone #godango21.1sub130 Woohoo Yeehaw.
Dan looks so much better running now compared to the first video you did together where he looked really stiff so sub 90 mins is definitely on 💪 I'm currently 5 weeks into a 12 week plan for a sub 120 min half and a 35 min 10k and so far so good. Good luck Dan
Love this video and great to see GCN and GTN working together. Dan, we know you can do it - looks like a great plan from Mark - we will be training with you!!!
I can definitely relate to Dan's reasons for running. As a cyclist, I got into running when we had our first child. Being able to throw in a pair of shoes and go, rather than getting setup for the bike. I run a 19min 5k, so looking forward to this!!
wow.. 1st HM and already aiming 90mins 👍. my 1st HM (solo attempt) was 2.5hrs, did few TT im down to 2hrs. 1.5hrs is a lil too far for me. Good luck Dan
I found Dan’s Reason’s for running to be nearly identical to mine. I have never been a runner, and at 43 single Dad, beating my cycling times etc are never going to happen. I have found it so motivating to continually drop my run times over the past three years. Also the easy to get ready, easy to get out, little clean up, no maintenance needs and costs have been great. Throw on some shorts and shoes and out the front door, back in 30-45 min and a great work out. My goal is a sub 20min 5k. I did my first ever half marathon distance last year, and my first ever triathlon in 2018.
Great idea, good to see Dan going fast at something 😉. Sub 1.30 is quite quick. I'm going to join in and aim for a pb, currently 1.37. Good luck everyone.
I mountainbike for years. And years ago in the army I did weakly runs. Now in the lockdown I start running again. In 3 weeks and 5 runs I runned the half marathon in 1.55.I had 4 days sore muscles after. But now after my second one it was really easy.I hope I can do my first triatlon this summer and not get cancelled by covid issues.
I am following the HM plan here and really appreciate the detail of it, thanks a lot . I also would like to have the plan for a Full Marathon if possible . Thank you so much and have a good days everyone !
waaaaa, great :) Amazingly, Dan looks natural while running (IMO of course) And, 4:00min/km, high goal for "non runner", hope you make it :) :) Go for it Dan!! :)
I'm starting this training today for Vienna half marathon on 24th April. I'm going to Bratislava half marathon on 6th week's Sunday. My HM record is 1:51, the goal in Vienna will be anything better than this. Cross your fingers for me 🙂
Great video! Thanks, and success to Dan! I'll join the challenge after my own crazy challenge this week: circumnavigating Jeju Island in South Korea. 240km in 4 days. 😅
Count me in! Good to hear open discussions about importance of bowel habit training which isn't the most palatable subject. Old glass Ketchup bottle analogy is hilarious! Maybe a separate video focused on this would be useful.
Best of luck Dan. I had a cycling accident last July and had to be airlifted to hospital so I’m doing my first Half Marathon in 7 weeks (Strava virtual NYC half) to raise money for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Wish I’d had this plan sooner as I’m now doubting the timeframe 😂
I want to get below 1hr 30 for the half this year as well.. Dan will will smash this, he's a bloody decent runner and has a great engine from his cycling history
4 min/km, about 6:30 min/mi. That is really good. I'm doing the Strava half marathon virtual race in March, hoping for 1hr 45 lol. I can't believe he's going for 1hr 30 and running so fast. He should definitely get some swimming in and do a triathlon, maybe in July or August.
Hey that is seriously good pace. I have done a half marathon. I set out in the event a bit fast, at around 5 minute km‘s, when my plan was 6 to 7 minute km‘s . I got to about 3/4 through the race, doing good, at that point I missed a hydration stop, and I just my mettle. I. Went from looking at a 21/2 hour half to just under 3 hours.. I am a heavier person circa 100kg.
I'm gonna do ½ marathon on July 24th currently running 3 times a week long run, 5k and speed run, also weight training 4x a week so this is as much as I'm willing to do
Hey GTN, I hope you guys read this! First, thanks for the plan! It is nice to have it since in exactly 9+ weeks I'll have my own HM! I'm not a native speaker, so could you please be so kind to explain what 'w/u', 'w/d' means in your plan? Would be super helpful! Thanks!
First goid luck Dan sure you'll smash it, especially if your competitive side kicks in. For someone Dans age... 🤔😜 He's probably in a much better position than most people who start running "later in life". He's got good base fitness, good leg strength, a good body shape and is a good start weight. My biggest point however is that until now he's been doing a low impact sport mainly, so despite what they mentioned about being susceptible to injury through having used different muscles etc, his joints, especially his knees will be in good shape compared with people who have run for most of their lives. He certainly looks far better than he did when doing his other video with GTN.
Really good to see Dan do a fitness video after a long time off... wonder if part of the Half-Marathon plan will include cycling to help build up endurance 😂
Maybe it's also a good idea to give Dan some running tips regarding his technique (arm-movement, shoulder-position, cadence etc. ). With a little more efficiency I bet he will be able to beat 1:20 on a 21k.
Go Lloydy, save the mineral water until the 1/2 is done. Good luck with sub-90. Sprint duathlon next! Worlds & age group? Heather & Mark will get you there.
Doesn't surprise me the 4 min per km. Most good cyclists I know as also really good runners, there is something in the muscle make up. I am pretty crap at Cycling, Running and Swimming and always have been, but... I was very good at (County Level) Football, Long Jump, 100m (anything shorter than 200m I was very good at), Rugby, etc. There is definitely something in your muscle make up that determines what sports you will be good at IMO. Unfortunately, I will always be crap at Tri events but I will always give it my best, I probably could of gone far in Football, but it's crap.
Brilliant video and looking forward to following the progress. DB Max have a half marathon at Westonbirt School at the end of March 😄 Just wondering where you were filming ?- looks like a lovely place to run
improve 5k or 10k timings. I'm not preparing for a race.. How often should I try to run a hard 5k/10k. That's is how often should I try to set my PR? In most of your plans I see only race day as the day we set our PRs and the weeks prior to it is only recovery tempo speed and long runs.
Would love to see a GTN vs. GCN Ironman or 70.3 team relay battle. I'm sure Dan would prefer his 1st 1/2 to be just a half marathon, not the circus that the vs. challenge would be. But his 2nd is a different story.
Who's joining in with us!? Let us know 🙌
Gcn is finally going to train for real 😂
I am, preparing for my first half Ironman. So need a quick half marathon
I am sorry but I do not see the option to download training plan
@@the_coffeetrader It's in our video description but you can also find it here 👉 gtn.io/9weekHMplan 🙂
I will join in but a little later because it started to snow so the roads arent safe for running
Dan just earned my respect. 4min per k is a fast time.
It's not hanging about! We can't wait to see how Dan gets on over the next 9 weeks! 🏃♂️
And he said he does it easy for 6-7k’s! I can’t get below 4.20
@@rdcanyon You know that he´s been a professional endurance athlete...........FOR THE CERVELO TEST TEAM!!!
@@Abnsdllnnlosnfd 🤣🤣 So true - and very very important fact 😂👍🏻⭐️
Spoke too soon
I wanna see a GCN relay team doing an IM with Conor doing the open water swim, Si on his TT bike, and Dan running a marathon. Make it happen GTN/GCN!
Conor's head would be near the finish of the swim just after he's dived in.
@@gcn Wanna race? 🤔
exactly the type of content we would want to see from ya'll. Much love from the Philippines
Do it as a proper event
Love this, great to see Dan getting into running.
Omg Dan!? Let’s go! I say Hank should be next 😂

Touched 1:30 HM at once , I will follow you Dan .. all the best 👍
Congrats on 500k subscribers! 🎉 And good luck to Dan!
Thanks!
Good luck Dan! Looking forward to following along.
Love how Dan always gets suckered into challenges :D
Wow! Just in time! I am building up my first Half Marathon, I am definitely joining in. Longest run so far was 17km with 4:50min/km pace. Thank you!
Great work man, keep it up 👍🏻
Dan, congratulations on this goal. Very big fan of Gcn and Gtn.

Dan: " I'm normally pretty hydrated..." does beer count?
Mineral water you mean! Many mineral waters!
They do serve post race mineral waters at some events.
pro running tip: Never trust a fart after the 10k point
That’s funny because I have an opposite problem, it’s always either 2-3M pit stop or not problem at all...
Pre race dump, is a better tip.
Truer words have never been spoken
if you are really paranoid or have stomach issues, popping in a loperamide will do the trick
hahahahahaha

I'm going to give this a go. Picking up fitness for first time since November and it sounds like a good time frame to crack a half out.
Very cool Dan. Wish you the best. Totally get his thinking around doing it and working to improve.
Big GTN & GCN fan . . . very impressed Dan, good effort and have fun with it :)
Wow! Thanks for this! I've done 2 full marathon, but without training plans, and result were 6:14 & 6:12 (barely made it to COT).

I’m on week 3 of your old half marathon training program and going strong thanks for all the info and training tips I really use them
my half marathon plan, go out and run a half marathon after not running for 6 months besides a 5k a few days earlier, it worked for me.
I’m really looking forward to watching Dans progress on this nine week program, great stuff!👍👍
Count me in! Good to hear open discussions about importance of bowel habit training which isn't the most palatable subject. Old glass Ketchup bottle analogy is hilarious! Maybe a separate video focused on this would be useful.
I think Dan should take it to the next level and do a Triathlon after the run challenge.
All the very best Dan good luck
This guy is awesome! Super funny. Just runs, no plan, relies on his bank of cycling training.
Glad to see Dan is still on the runner side! It has to be irony that your half got canceled two years ago, to try again now.

Thank you for this guided video I am going to start it
It would be interesting if Dan's cycling FTP changes due to run training for 9 weeks without doing any cycling?
Brilliant, looking forward to this series 👍
Good video. My target is to be good enough to start this traing plan!
I printed it off, my very first half marathon is September but i want to work on this now and see how i do in 9 weeks.
Perfect timing! I'm in!

Wow it's pretty good
I am gonna follow this workout and increase my 21km running speed 😁
I'm in... gotta find a Half, maybe will do a trail half. I've done 10 marathons with 3:16 PR and Boston in 2012
Hey GTN, I hope you guys read this! First, thanks for the plan! It is nice to have it since in exactly 9+ weeks I'll have my own HM! I'm not a native speaker, so could you please be so kind to explain what 'w/u', 'w/d' means in your plan? Would be super helpful! Thanks!
Go Dan! I know you are going to smash your projected time of 1:30 for the half.
4/km pace for a "non-runner" is quite impressing . I'll try to keep up with this plan.
Well done Dan. Great to see you on GTN as well as your usual home. When will we see you in the pool?

Welcome - let us know how you get on! 🙌
For an ex-cyclist, he seems to have a good running form, e.g. hip flexors and straight back. Respect for that improvement in speed!

I'm doing the Edinburgh half in May. Only been running since March last year. I'm 51, and my best 5k is 31 mins 😕, best 10k is 1 hour 6 minutes.

Wow Dan's is already faster than me... Good luck Dan
He rode the Tour de France...not just some bloke off the street
Yesterday I ran a half marathon at 5min/km. I"m going to try this plan and see how much I improve. See you in 9 weeks.

Any chance you can get GCN’s Ollie on board with this?

Where did Dan get those white tights?
How steep should the hill be for hill sprints !?
