ya that's not a true kata... I've been practicing Goju Ryu, Japanese Jui jitsu, shotokan and Muay Thai since I was 8 years old. I'm 32 now and done all kinds of weapons katas at tournaments including nun chux, bo staff, katana and scythes.

It's very fancy with all those flips and kicks but ain't very good nun chuka moves/skills, it was very karate style gymnastics there was no hand swaps and no form of juggling involved which looks so much more awesome. I have been swinging nunchucks and most weapon forms for past 12 years.

Not only for show but it is a great attribute builder. And XMA teaches skills and concentration.
Very nice tumbling,...but the nunchaku routine would be better if you could loose the wrist rolls and air toss as these are useless moves and are not true nunchaku technique. The nunchaku is a defensive combat weapon, if you release the nunchaku, you must reserve attention to re-secure the nunchaku. It is at this time that the attacker will strike. Wrist rolls and air tosses are good tricks for a baton in a marching band.
Although I agree with you, this is a kata not a self defense. Yes they are a defense weapon but that doesn't mean you can't do tricks with them. In my opinion as someone who has worked with chucks and done karate for a long time it really adds the flare that the kata needed.
@@suzshisush7810 Yes, I understand where you are coming from, if free style gets more people into nunchaku, then I suppose it's a good thing. As a person who has trained with nunchaku for over 40 years and successfully defended myself from a shank attack with the nunchaku, I like the more traditional kata and practical training with the weapon. I guess I am old school, but more power to the younger generation.
