I missed this when it was on TV but binge watched it a few years later in college via VHS. It affected me like no other movie or mini-series before it, as Lonesome Dove is also my favorite book. This is a great ending and reminds me of the ending in "A river runs through it".
Same here…much more than just a cowboy story. Very deep philosophical meaning for those who can glean it. I altered my approach to life after encountering “Gus” 35 years ago. Became much more easygoing, or tried to be anyway. Read the book many times, for comfort. Stole a lot of Gus’ sayings : ain’t scared of being lazy, the older the violin the sweeter the music, far too leaky a vessel to put much hope in, and on and on… Best? Tell the wife now and then, especially when drinking, “I’d like a poke”. 😂😂😂

No western will ever beat it.
This always brings tears to my eyes.
The Perfect Western.
I think they must have literally “one taked” this scene at golden hour. Incredible visually and emotionally.
Greatest ending in any movie. Music, scenery and all

@@henrychinaski3720 The line that gets me is Gus on his death bed saying "Aye God Woodrow. It's been quite a party, ain't it?"
Best scene, still gives me chills!!
Jeez , I love this story. I’m gonna cry..,
:They say you're a man of vision!"
I did
Agree best ending ever, followed by Jeremiah Johnson when he and the brave seem to call an end to the feud
One of the best.
Damn they don't make western like this anymore I'm so proud to be a Texan
And like he said hell of a vision
Watch 'a man called horse' next
