  • At this time of the year when the countryside is usually a bit too muddy for pure enjoyment I like to visit pretty villages or small towns and have a good explore and stroll around them. I regularly pass through the town of Bingley on my travels to Haworth, and this quiet New Year Bank Holiday seemed a perfect time to actually stop there and have a gentle tour.
Bingley is a great place for walkers and nature lovers. It lies both on the River Aire and Leeds-Liverpool canal. Right in the centre there is the entrance to the huge and very beautiful Myrtle Park, but the best thing for me is St Ives Estate, a 550 acres Country Park full of features and surprises which I will no doubt be returning to later on in the year.

The island in the middle of the river Aire brings back a lot of memories, jump over the bridge handrail and down onto the island. As a 10 year old we had a den in the middle of a hollowed out Holly bush there. I now live on the opposite side of the world and one day I would like to return and jump over that handrail again.

Wonderful footage as always Vesna, from the most beautiful place in the whole world. Yorkshire is stunning, no matter the season, but there is something remarkable about this particular landscape during wintertime. It has a totally unique character, melancholic and awe inspiring. The weather worn stonework of the older buildings, the lonely churchyards, the quietness of walks by rain fed streams. The bare trees, forming a lonely silhouette against those magnificent skies, with their piercing blue, as a frosty chill envelops the air. An awareness of the passage of time, and one's place in it. Oh to have the words to express it perfectly, and do it justice! Words fail me.But I think you know what I mean. All the best for 2022 Vesna, I hope you will have a happy, healthy year. Kind regards.

Thank you very much, Martin for such a thoughtful comment. I'm glad you have a similar sensitivity for Yorkshire winter landscape to me. And you described it so well; I certainly couldn't have done better myself. Best wishes for 2022 to you too!
