    The red external switch assembly fell apart during reassembly and I couldn't figure how the springs and white lever reassembled. The video at 1:46 perfectly showed how it all went back together, allowing me to finish the job.
    Thank you Chris.You made our lives a lot easier by posting this excellent video.

    It's always good to find these videos to help find the hidden screws and get tips from other viewers. Here is something that worked for me. When I got to the point at 0:40, I was nervous that I was gonna break something. I started to reassembly the part but I inserted a small object near the top to prevent the tabs from locking. Then I put the bottom two screws back in just enough to start the treads. I used the screwdriver in the head of the screws and tapped on it to push the bottom of the part straight out. After the bottom was lose, I removed the screws and the part came out easy.

    This tutorial worked perfectly for me! I was able to swap the switches out in 15 minutes. Thanks so much for saving me so much money and teaching me a new skill! I like to demonstrate to my sons that with a little effort, it's possible to keep machinery running. You don't have to throw the broken thing away and replace it with a new one!

    Excellent video! It turned out that the on/off switch was just a bit sticky, once I could touch the switch with the buttons out of the way, it sprang free and worked normally.

    Thank you, Button was stuck (wouldn't stay on because one of the springs had shifted and was keeping the button from going all the way down) and all I needed to do was open and adjust, Saved me 2-4 weeks with out a decent vacuum!

    Chris, thank you. This is the best short video that I found to replace the power switch on my Dyson DC25 All Floor vacuum. When I removed the cover both springs and white spring connector sprung loose so the clear and focused video gave me a picture that showed me how to assemble them before reattachment. You are correct reattachment is the hardest part. I found bottom first as you advised then the struggle, however to my surprise when I went behind the vacuum and pulled it snapped right in . Thanks again, I ordered all 3 parts on eBay from a company called nitro-master2 and replaced all 3 switches.

      William Dougherty I see you just did this few months ago, I saw video, ordered power switch cord. It came and when I go to put on I can’t figure out where u undo screws to put part in. Mine is a Dyson dc25 upright, bagless. I can’t see any screws to undo. We are talking it’s on handle near red power button? Wonder if have to take off canister or what to see the screws? Help

    Chris, this is an excellent video, thanks for posting. My DC25 kept cutting out, I booked a Dyson engineer to come out but missed the appointment ( work!) and didn't fancy waiting another month for an appointment. Took the handle apart as in your video and I found the switch was faulty. I ordered a genuine Dyson switch off Amazon UK ( £5.69 delivered). Dyson fully working again!

    This tutorial was great. I fixed my expensive vacuum and impressed my husband. The only problem I experienced was a couple of small pieces that fell out of the brush button. I didn't see them till I had it all put back together, so I had to take it apart twice. It was easy to figure out where they went when I watched your video again though. Thank you!

    Thank you for the video. Our vacuum was always on and would never turn off. The red power button was broken at the bottom and had to be replaced. I found the toughest part was removing the big gray piece. I had to pry it off with a flathead screwdriver at the bottom. Other than that, everything else worked like a charm. Cheers!

    I can't thank you enough for your video Chris! I could find next to nothing on our DC29. No wonder it was on clearance at Walmart :-P! Took it apart and fiddled with the power switch. Turns out it was just stuck. Reassembled and tested aok.

    This was an extremely helpful video. Thanks. I used it to change the short (35') Dyson power cord out for a longer one. Couldn't have done it without this video. In appreciation, I'd like to add some helpful hints.
    After you pop the retaining clips on the removable top cover, it may not come off all the way without a lot of difficulty. Knowing how to get it off will save a possible broken part. The top of the cover pops out with little trouble, but the bottom was firmly stuck. It turns out the two bottom screws just removed, anchor into plastic studs molded into the cover. The screws cause the studs to swell and stick tightly in the retaining holes in the handle. Using a screwdriver, gently pry the top cover at the bottom on each side and move it straight out away from the vacuum handle. With careful and gentle effort you should be able to work the cover out and away from the handle. It came off pretty hard for me, but came without damage (if careful).
    NOTE: The cover holds 2 switch buttons, 2 springs, and a small white plastic latch component. See the frame at 1:45 seconds in the video for their placement. These will likely fall out as you are removing the cover unless you tip the vacuum forward so the open part of the cover is pointing up as you remove it finally. Make sure you get these pieces all back into their proper place, before putting the cover back in place when you are done.
    ALSO NOTE: If you assemble the vacuum with the handle in its normal vertical storage position and attempt to test the switch operations to make sure they work before putting the final screws, etc back into place the beater brushes will **NOT** operate with the vacuum handle erect! You must put the handle in the "use" position before the beaters will operate! I took the cover off/on three times trying to figure out what was wrong with the switches before discovering this!
    Hope this helps.

    Short and sweet video, and it helped me repair my DC17 Animal model. Mine had the problem where the On switch would not stay on, so I had to keep my thumb on the red On button while vacuuming. Very inconvenient! I used this video to get at the switch under the red On button and show the switch was working fine. The only problem I noticed was that the tiny spring at the foot of the white piece was missing. Perhaps it broke, and the white piece interfered with the On switch. Anyway it's put back together now without the white piece, and it works fine. Thank you for this video!

    Great video. UK models have a slightly different switch arrangement, the red switch has a metal strip attached at the bottom which looks like it holds down the beater bar reset button.
    Otherwise the only problem I had was in removing the cover first time as it was very stiff, after that it comes apart freely.
    Thanks Chris M.

    Thank you so much! I tried everything, but couldn't get the brush bar to work. After removing the cover, I discovered that the little spring on the brush button had become dislodged. I was able to (eventually) get it back into place, replaced the cover, and it was working like a champ.

    Spoiler alert: I fixed my vacuum. Couldn't have done it without this video (thank you), but it was challenging. You need patience - not to mention gravity - on your side. Yes, the piece is quite hard to remove the first time. I think I even broke off a small plastic tab while doing it, but it went back on okay. Complicating matters was that two things showed up that I wasn't expecting after watching the video. First, there is a little white plastic piece that slips into the gray button. There is no mention of it, and it caused a lot of trouble. The piece just fits into a slot, but it doesn't clamp or fit securely. So every bump (and there were many, given the tight fittings) sent the little piece flying or falling down into the workings so that I had to dump the vacuum upside down. This happened a lot. I finally started tilting the whole thing back so that gravity would keep the piece angled back, less likely to fall out. Second, my red button actually had a metal arm attached to the bottom of it, and there is no sign of that on the video. I bent it every which way to enable me to snap the piece back closed, but it kept blocking me. I finally pulled the little arm completely off. I snapped everything back into place, plugged it an and the new switch worked. Fingers crossed that it holds. Thanks Chris, but I'm curious if you've run across that metal piece on the red button before. That was really weird.

    • @ace--x
      @ace--x 9 лет назад +1

      Ours also has the metal arm attached to the base of the red switch which confused us and caused issues with reassembly. Was a fair bit of hassle as we ran into some of the pitfalls already described here, but we managed it eventually and with the metal arm in place, although it is interesting to hear that it works without it. Switches are still a bit temperamental but it works better than before. (If anyone knows its function, I'd like to know.) Thanks for the upload Chris.

    Thank you saved me over a hundred dollars. I just ordered the part off Amazon.com for under $5 and I spent $6 on a T15 Torx screwdriver from Home Depot. WARNING: When you are taking this thing apart watch for 2 little springs that might spring away and get lost.. I lost one and took a ball point pen apart for a spring. Also found taking off the cover a little tricky it never fully came off, but I only had to slide it out partially

    • @djinnisequoia
      @djinnisequoia 7 лет назад +1

      Dude, extra 100 points for being resourceful enough to use a ball point pen spring. People like you are seldom defeated by your appliances!

  • @gearoidkenny
    @gearoidkenny Год назад +1

    Great video thanks TIP: if you have lost the grey pushbutton’s shorter spring, as happened to me, a spring taken from a fat pushbutton Pen/Biro and cut to size will work for Dyson Ball or similar models with an AC Power Push Button assembly as shown in this video. Must be a fattish pushbutton pen. That shorter spring can have a slightly smaller outer diameter than standard, eg 4mm will work and cut it to approximately 10mm extended length and it will work ok. It worked for me. Cut, install and test before installing the complete AC Power Switch assembly onto the Vacuum Cleaner body. The springs need to be of similar wire thickness approximately to compress similarly/adequately.
    The Red pushbutton spring is the longer 19mm one and it has an outer diameter of 4.7 or 4.8mm. I did not test to see if the Pen spring would have worked there but I think it might work too.
    This way you can quick fix and not need to order just 1 spring.
    I discovered that If you call Dyson UK as I did on 10 November, sadly, you can expect to be told that they are busy and average waiting time may be up to ½ hour. So I hung up. I did not try email as the website said to call. I could not find data to confirm exactly which spring pat number to order and I could not find spring technical specification info for the listed springs and the description did not confirm, eg with a diagram, precisely where that spring was used. Sadly many companies have similar poor / cost cutting after sales technical support. IMO Dyson do sell a very high quality, well designed, robust product, the component quality and repairability are very good.

    Thank you so much for this video - we have a Dyson DC24 (very similar) to the DC25 - we bought the switch for about $6.00 and then followed your directions - almost exactly as you described in your video - everything worked out great and yes the areas you said might be difficult indeed were. The only other suggestion I would make is to emphasize the fact that there are 2 springs involved with the red and silver switches - be careful not to misplace those - we almost did. They can come loose when taking out those switches - I'm sure trying to replace those springs would be a nightmare and you really do not want to go there :-) THANKS AGAIN - a fairly simple and inexpensive repair instead of buying a new vacuum or bringing it in to get repaired.

    Thank you! This was so helpful. I have a DC17 Animal - the screw placement was a little different but once the cover came off it looked pretty similar on the inside. The small white plastic piece and a small spring came flying off so I paused the video to see how that went back together and it worked fine. I used a small T-15 torque screwdriver that came with some random piece of furniture (the kind that looks like a small bar with a long side and a small side) and it worked great. It was a little tricky getting the cover back on and I found it helpful to look from the back to make sure everything lined up appropriately.

    I was having trouble with the on and off switch so that it was always on. So if you plugged it in it would automatically on and you could only turn it off by unplugging. Now the worst problem, but I opened it up and either the reset switch fixed it, or the switch would just jam. Either way, I just left the screws off for easy access and anytime it gives me trouble I just fiddle with the switch and it works fine, if you don't really care to buy a new switch which might just break again (like mine did).

My next step I inspected the belt and it looked good. I put it all back together and powered it up. If so can you tell me the part number for the switch...And thank you my dyson sat in the repair shop for 2 weeks making my wife furious enough to go pick it up... telling them she was reporting them to Dyson as they were a Dyson certified repair shop.. so I thought I would try and tackle it...

      +Victor Hutton Hello Victor! My issue was that the power switch did not work sometimes. If the vacuum was powered on, pushing the switch would not shut it off and vice versa.
      Here's where I bought my switch.

    Took the switch out, but have two springs...one bigger than the other. There's a spring between the white piece and the brush switch. Is it the bigger spring or a smaller spring? And then where does the other spring go?

    I bought our DC25 this past April, 2015 and the switch is bad already. After finding this video and the comments, makes me wonder if these switches are junk. Never had a vacuum cleaner where the switch went bad before. After reading the comments, seems they should enclose a half dozen switches with the new cleaner. I can't turn my vacuum off unless I pull the plug.

    I have looked everywhere, I am in need of help!!

    Thanks, just did this today on my 6 year old dc25 animal. I literally had to hold my power button down to get my Dyson to work. Now after replacing the power switch, my Dyson turns on and stays on after hitting the power button just once.

    I followed these instructions exactly and lo and behold, I turned it on and it worked. I turned it back off, then went on to some other chores. I came back to it a few hours later, ready to vacuum and, once again, it would not power on at all. :-( Has anyone else had this problem? For the record, I very carefully watched which wire went where and put them in precisely the same place as the video. I have purchased a 2nd switch and will attempt to install it soon, but am nervous that the very same thing will happen again ... Any advice is most welcome, at this point ...

    Great video, however my machine is not powering on at all. It started making a rattling noise and then powered itself off. Now it won't switch on at all, checked the fuse and power outlet but to no avail. Any tips greatly appreciated, really has been a great machine until now :-(

    My brush is not spinning and the suction is not going through to head, but suction is fine up to that point. The brush doesn't spin. If I can get the brush to spin will that improve the suction to the head?

    My power switch is working, but when I turn the brush off, the vacuum shuts off. Was this your problem? Thanks for answering my question.

    • @Muruanaiz
      @Muruanaiz  9 лет назад

      nelsdrums No. My power switch would only work half the time.I'd have to push it multiple times to get the vacuum to turn on. Maybe open it up to see if something is broken inside the housing.

    • @schmecklesonwright
      @schmecklesonwright 9 лет назад

      nelsdrums There's either something broken inside the housing or it's assembled incorrectly. Open it up and it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

    hi can you please help me? I have the DC24, as I am using it the motor head still works but on and off the suction will cut out. I think I might have a loose wire somewhere but if it was would the head not cut out as well? Confused. Ive seen a couple of videos where people are replacing the power cord but it is on similar models - not mines so I get the jist of the idea. Can you please (if you can) give me some advice on how to go about sorting this as its becoming annoying now.many thanks

    are both the brush bar switch and the on/off the same switch?

  • @Jerseysoycandles
    @Jerseysoycandles 8 лет назад +1

    Not sure if you would know....I thought it was my power button, but now I'm second guessing. When I plug in, the switch doesn't work, yet when I start to unplug it, it got juice started and then quit. There was a puff of smoke and black area in the prong slot of my outlet . I did try 3 different outlets- plug was shot...all good now

      +Stephanie Rabon I don't know what the problem could have been. I didn't use the vaccum for 2 days and when I went to try it again it was working. It hasn't given me a problem again since. I'm guessing there was maybe something lose in there or it could be the fuse. I hope you find a solution. They are very good vaccums.
