Hello
Dyson DC25 Power Switch Replacement
How to replace the power switch in a Dyson DC25 vacuum cleaner. I am not a Dyson repair technician, and this video is basically how I did it. I bought the power switch on Amazon for much cheaper than it would have cost me to take it to a shop. Link to the switch is below!!
I really do appreciate it when people comment that this video helped. Thanks!

Hello, Thank you for posting this video. I found it extremely helpful for replacing the reset switch on my Dyson D25 as well.👏
thanks for all the help i found it in the trash and got a great vacuum for the price of a switch. Awesome.
Great video thanks TIP: if you have lost the grey pushbutton’s shorter spring, as happened to me, a spring taken from a fat pushbutton Pen/Biro and cut to size will work for Dyson Ball or similar models with an AC Power Push Button assembly as shown in this video. Must be a fattish pushbutton pen. That shorter spring can have a slightly smaller outer diameter than standard, eg 4mm will work and cut it to approximately 10mm extended length and it will work ok. It worked for me. Cut, install and test before installing the complete AC Power Switch assembly onto the Vacuum Cleaner body. The springs need to be of similar wire thickness approximately to compress similarly/adequately. The Red pushbutton spring is the longer 19mm one and it has an outer diameter of 4.7 or 4.8mm. I did not test to see if the Pen spring would have worked there but I think it might work too. This way you can quick fix and not need to order just 1 spring. I discovered that If you call Dyson UK as I did on 10 November, sadly, you can expect to be told that they are busy and average waiting time may be up to ½ hour. So I hung up. I did not try email as the website said to call. I could not find data to confirm exactly which spring pat number to order and I could not find spring technical specification info for the listed springs and the description did not confirm, eg with a diagram, precisely where that spring was used. Sadly many companies have similar poor / cost cutting after sales technical support. IMO Dyson do sell a very high quality, well designed, robust product, the component quality and repairability are very good.
Thank you I was able to repair my vacuum with a part from eBay. I dropped the spring and it took forever to find it!
Excellent video! It turned out that the on/off switch was just a bit sticky, once I could touch the switch with the buttons out of the way, it sprang free and worked normally.
Great video. UK models have a slightly different switch arrangement, the red switch has a metal strip attached at the bottom which looks like it holds down the beater bar reset button. Otherwise the only problem I had was in removing the cover first time as it was very stiff, after that it comes apart freely. Thanks Chris M.
Well i got to the point of taking the top piece off and its stuck. Won't come off and won't go back in. Dead in the water.
Can't understand all the thank you messages, the hard part is getting the cover off which isn't really covered properly I released the clips and took the screws out and it came partway out then wouldn't come out any further or go back in. I've got it out now but it's broken. Please learn how to do something before posting an instructional. Fair do's though I've not found a better video, could just do with one that actually covers the job!
I just got mine stuck and that is exactly why I came to this video 😭😢
Thanks this helped me a lot today
Thank you so much you saved me $120 I do not have to spare, but the $8 and time I did
The bottom first top last method worked for me. It took me at least a dozen tries but when i figured out to lift the brush roller button up a bit while you push the whole assembly in then it went in smoothly!
Thanks. I struggled to pull it out. Rocking sideways will help.
Great help, thank you. 👍
Hello, thanks for the video I have the same problem but I lost the spring , the one you put first and I don't know how to order bcz the other spring that go in the gray part is smaller, can you help me with , maybe I can order in Amazon. Thanks again.
Thanks Chris just needed to know how to get to it and the fix works just fine
Hi really good video and all working now. Only problem is the spring for the cyclone canister release button fell out and I can't se where it should go. Anyone help please? I have a dc25 animal.
Having problems figuring the actuator arm. Dont see it when you take out or put the assembly back in. Where the heck does it go
0:50 Help I can't take it off!! It's like stuck on an angle
Thanks for this. I seem to have the spring you show in the brush switch.
I can't see the video now
Thank you for taking time to make and share this video.
wish i had watched this first, third time using my dyson ball and it stops working, what a piece of shit. i would never have bought if i'd have known.
Thank you so much for this video - we have a Dyson DC24 (very similar) to the DC25 - we bought the switch for about $6.00 and then followed your directions - almost exactly as you described in your video - everything worked out great and yes the areas you said might be difficult indeed were. The only other suggestion I would make is to emphasize the fact that there are 2 springs involved with the red and silver switches - be careful not to misplace those - we almost did. They can come loose when taking out those switches - I'm sure trying to replace those springs would be a nightmare and you really do not want to go there :-) THANKS AGAIN - a fairly simple and inexpensive repair instead of buying a new vacuum or bringing it in to get repaired.
Excellent quality video. Question, my brush wasn't spinning and tried the reset switch which didn't fix it. I cleaned the brush and that also didn't fix the problem. My next step I inspected the belt and it looked good. I put it all back together and powered it up. The brush spun and I'm wondering if I somehow reset the brush doing this and perhaps I need to replace the reset switch so I wouldn't have to take it all apart again. Your thoughts?
Chris, You helped me repair mine. I pulled off the gray cover and the two springs went flying but I found them! I am stunned that at this time, almost 200k people have had this same problem by your views. Can you believe it?
It's up to 205k now, that has to represent an engineering or parts problem.
I followed these instructions exactly and lo and behold, I turned it on and it worked. I turned it back off, then went on to some other chores. I came back to it a few hours later, ready to vacuum and, once again, it would not power on at all. :-( Has anyone else had this problem? For the record, I very carefully watched which wire went where and put them in precisely the same place as the video. I have purchased a 2nd switch and will attempt to install it soon, but am nervous that the very same thing will happen again ... Any advice is most welcome, at this point ...
I did mine thanks to this video, easy fix 🙏🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks very much
Chris, thank you. This is the best short video that I found to replace the power switch on my Dyson DC25 All Floor vacuum. When I removed the cover both springs and white spring connector sprung loose so the clear and focused video gave me a picture that showed me how to assemble them before reattachment. You are correct reattachment is the hardest part. I found bottom first as you advised then the struggle, however to my surprise when I went behind the vacuum and pulled it snapped right in . Thanks again, I ordered all 3 parts on eBay from a company called nitro-master2 and replaced all 3 switches.
William Dougherty I see you just did this few months ago, I saw video, ordered power switch cord. It came and when I go to put on I can’t figure out where u undo screws to put part in. Mine is a Dyson dc25 upright, bagless. I can’t see any screws to undo. We are talking it’s on handle near red power button? Wonder if have to take off canister or what to see the screws? Help
Great video, Thanks for sharing. My clear brush bar reset arm popped off. Excellent pictures,
Very helpful video. Let me ask you this. My Dyson just died this weekend. How do you know if it's the power switch or the power cord that needs replacing? Id like to save the expense of replacing both the switch and the power cord.
Where does the spring go for the grey switch?
How do you test to know if the parts bad is there a way? Also do you think I'd be able to find these locally
Hi there -- more than 4 years later, I am incredibly grateful for this video. I love my Dyson, but can't afford service. You rock.
My brush is not spinning and the suction is not going through to head, but suction is fine up to that point. The brush doesn't spin. If I can get the brush to spin will that improve the suction to the head?
great video. thank you
Thanks, just did this today on my 6 year old dc25 animal. I literally had to hold my power button down to get my Dyson to work. Now after replacing the power switch, my Dyson turns on and stays on after hitting the power button just once.
Hey Chris, Appreciate the video, Made job easy. You Rock Bro!
Thank you very much!!!! So glad we found your video and thank you for posting it. And we appreciate the link to the power switch on Amazon.
Thank you! Going to try this! <3
thanks for his video! really helped a lot. in my case, my switch wasn't broken but the connections were loose. the wires were just enough but several times the cords gets yanked and it eventually became loose. thanks for this helpful video!
THANK YOU. I ordered the part, I hope it fixes my vacuum. THANK YOU for people like you who take the time to post these videos.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This video helped me to repair my DC17 by myself. I very much appreciate your providing this tutorial!
Thanks - great video. Getting the bottom part of the cover off was hard - in the end brute force did it!
Use this when I was replacing the cyclone retainer on my DC17. That was a pain, but even harder was getting the switch assembly back in. This video was helpful, but I couldn't get the assembly back in using the bottom-first technique demonstrated here. I tried and failed a dozen times. I finally was able to get it back in by putting the top in first, then the bottom went right in.
Brilliant help, thank you.
Took the switch out, but have two springs...one bigger than the other. There's a spring between the white piece and the brush switch. Is it the bigger spring or a smaller spring? And then where does the other spring go?
Dyson dc04 will not power up
I can't thank you enough for your video Chris! I could find next to nothing on our DC29. No wonder it was on clearance at Walmart :-P! Took it apart and fiddled with the power switch. Turns out it was just stuck. Reassembled and tested aok.
are both the brush bar switch and the on/off the same switch?
