I did two vehicles so far and there's a lot of wet sanding involved, course sanding to very fine sanding. What happens is your scratching of the top coat then the fine sanding eliminates the scratches. Then you spray a few layers of sun resistant clear coat. Taking off the dull original coating is more than a challenge. I tried a lot of stuff like toothpaste, W-D 40, and a kit that is designed for this, none of it works. Good old sandpaper and some elbow grease and time gets the job done good enough to get an inspection sticker.
Appreciate you going to the trouble to show us, however If you're going to do more videos, learn from the mistakes of this video, instead of making people try to pause the video on exactly the right spot (which is a pain) to see the size of grit or the name of the product, if you can't speak it out at least list it in the description, and maybe even where to buy it with a link. Food for thought.
We could save even more time and money if headlight lenses were made of glass, like they were in the sealed-beam halogen days. Less than a minute with some glass cleaner and a piece of paper towel did the job.
I used this product in 2 cars. The effect was great.....for 3 months. More long-lasting effects are achieved by polishing with sandpaper and securing with clear varnish.
Not all varnishes last, polyurethane will crack peel. I have found that the clear wheel paint sold at your auto parts stores works very well, and is very durable.
I just use a fine polishing compound (scratch remover) and a buffer. Then it is truly like new, no layer of stuff that don't last, last as long as a new one. But to save time, it's a lot faster to install a new unit than all you did, cost more, but for time, new part.
I’ve done it and I find it better if you keep going with each grit until it’s smooth and no resistance. Also use a paint polish to finish then a wax coat.
I 100 percent agree. What a waste of time. But us commenting on his video actually helps his video. So it’s kind a like writing on the bathroom wall telling people not to write on the bathroom wall.
possible a heatgun would work the same.... ive done a similar technique on a plastic kayak after sanding, the rough areas and basically surface melted and smooth almost new again.... takes rough scuff away..... buffing with wax might help too.
Who wants to have to remove his headlight assembly just to polish the headlight? There are many polishing kits available that don't require removing the headlights from the vehicle. They don't require a steamer and are far less labor intensive.
I take it that you’re not in the USA ? Plus Ive never seen the products that you used would it be possible if you could tell me where you bought them and the name of the product and items in your video. Thanks for sharing and your help.
There’s a whole raft of these kits available through eBay … typically in the £20-£25 price bracket. Personally, I’m somewhat sceptical about the durability of what appears to be a vapour deposition layer of some volatile polymer … but (shrug) I guess one never really knows unless one tries it … but, like most car shine wax systems, I suspect it’ll have worn off after a month or so.

At $20 bucks for the kit, it is a waste of money. It won't last long. If you are going to spend time and money on polishing (wet sanding with fine grits) just wash with windex first, wet sand with straight water, as fine as you like, but 1500 is plenty fine enough, then the clear wheel paint from your auto parts store. It is not the UV that breaks down the plastic, it is the heat, sandblasting from road dust, and oxidation that clouds them up. A couple of good coats of wheel paint lasts much longer. It does get milky while drying on heavy application, however, don't freak out, it clears up as it cures. By the time it is dry to the touch, it will be clear and glossy
