Yahtzee! This was the exact problem I was experiencing with my '09 Highlander. Multiple places - some auto repair, some stereo repair - couldn't figure out how the issue was happening, often saying "I've never heard this issue before" and were just going to replace the whole unit. Thousands of dollars you just saved me. Thank you so much!
@@Jahmall841 I'm a little surprised that you are the only person I found on hear that had this problem and actually solved it. I couldn't get the DVD player to work for my grandson so I'm messing with everything up front then realized my stereo sound was backed out too. Uhhgg
Amazing to find this. Have the exact same problem and couldn’t find anything that even described the problem accurately. Thanks so much for posting and answering others comments!!!
Yes No problem. This issue would likely cost the average car owner hundreds for a car dealer to just diagnose this problem, then thousands more to fix it.. Glad I could help.
I have the same car as yours and same stereo system. The issue with mine is that I can't hear any volume. Everything else works the touchscreen and all buttons except for the volume. If I turn the knob to raise it or if I try to raise it from the wheel nothing happens. Volume comes back whenever it feels like it. Any idea what's wrong?
As a follow up, I simply went to the fuse box and pulled the fuse for the rear entertainment system. Simple, effective. Has anyone gotten to the root of the problem, why the RES interferes with the rest of the system?
Yes that is the same as plugging it out, the entertainment system needs repair or replacement. Mines was damaged from my children jamming DVD into it causing it to malfunction.
The easiest answer is your radio is broken. Most likely something is stuck inside it like coins are other small objects, my kids did this when I left them in the car.
Finally Figured out what was wrong with the help of a Very Good Mechanic. Turns out my Factory DVD player Malfunction because the children jam a 2nd disk inside it and it must have over heated and shorted out since there is no fuse for the DVD player only. Once I plugged out the Unit my Radio started playing again like normal after 10 months. Hopefully this will help someone else if they ever run into this problem..
Hello Pennie I have the factory DVD player and my children jammed the DVD into the player which caused it to short circuit. I got the radio to work by unplugging the DVD player. Its been working flawlessly since. Sad thing is I purchased a used Navigation Unit that works perfectly but didn't end up needing it.
@@gipad7339 the fuse panel is near the emergency brake, if you look in the owners manual it will tell you which fuse to pull. You can also do what I did which is pull down on the outer edge of the DVD player its a plastic cover with clips holding it up and just disconnect the wire from the DVD and the problem will be solved.
