    1:50 This woman is a historian/archaeologist. She is NOT a linguistics or poetry expert. There are multiple examples in the Old Testament where the author would use the contemporary name of a city when describing it in ancient times (when it had a different name). It would be like a modern person referring to New York City back in the year 1635. Techanically there was no New York City in 1635 because it was still going by the name New Amsterdam.

    I would live to one day go to see these sites, and people like you are doing wonderful work in allowing people to see the real places, not just the traditional sites, and not taking the popular, easy route and deciding that the primary litterary source from the period is just plain wrong.

    Joshua was a true Warrior. People forget too, that Moses was an Egyptian military Commander. Before God called him.

    Kenneth Kitchen once wrote: „Excavations at Et-Tell have failed to produce any proper evidence of occupation there after the Early Bronze Age (c. 2400 BC), apart from a small Israelite settlement (Iron I) of c. 1200-1050. Despite assertions made to the contrary, this situation suggests that Et-Tell is not Ai but another ancient site (Beth-Aven?), and that Ai must be looked for somewhere else in the area and not at Et-Tell. When mounds and literary evidence fail to agree in other cases, topographers and archeologists do not panic but simply use their common sense, recognize that they were probably mistaken in their identification, and proceed to search elsewhere in the region. The problem of Ai should be regarded in exactly the same way.“ (Kenneth Kitchen, Ancient Orient and Old Testament, p. 63-64) In a footnote to the text he remarked: „It is only the approximate geographical suitability and the presumed play on the name that has suggested Ai, and no scrap of positive proof (such as inscriptions in situ as at Gezer) exists to justify Noths uncritical belief (VTS, VII, p. 273) that the equation of Et-Tell is „beyond doubt“. There are very serious doubts on both grounds cited…“

      @@detroitpolak9904 True, there were laws about slavery in the Holy Bible. They were mostly about how a slave should be treated and under what circumstances a slave must be release.
      But that does not change the fact that the time-line currently held by main-stream Egyptologists is wrong. The people that build the ancient pyramids and the Sphynx were much more ancient than the people that held Isreal captive.

    Whether it is the real Ai or not maybe is debatable (although I think the case for it being Ai is very strong). But what this destroyed fortress proves with the in-situ New Kingdom scarab of Amenhotep II (and its pottery) is that the pottery found in Jericho in the destruction layer (where the walls came tumbling down) dates from the time of the New Kingdom and Amenhotep II.

    It is very interesting how when it comes to biblical research, archeologists seem to be in the repeated habit of
    looking in the wrong place and then declaring the bible to be nothing more than myth and legend.

    The lost people’s insistence on looking in the wrong time/place reminds me of the guy who comes to a drunk in the dark looking for something on the ground. He asks, “What are you looking for?”
    Drunk: “My keys.”
    Guy: “Are you sure you lost them here?”
    Drunk: “No, I lost them half a block down, but the light is better here.”
    Dan 7:25 tells us that Satan tries to change the times. This is a perfect example.

    But there are so many ''experts and liberal scholars'' who say Moses is a myth? how can the story of Moses be a myth, but these ruins of Jericho and the other city's
    are very mixed with Joshua's history in the bible, (it gets very confusing to say the ruins match the bible description's, but Joshua and Moses are not real people, )

    To have all the evidence, one needs to ask, Where did the Hebrews get all the food and weapons needed to participate in this conquest of the Levant ? Only one possible answer comes about that does not form a contradiction.
    Circa 1500 BCE, Ahmose is credited with having reunited Egypt and then driving out the Hyksos north to the border of the Hittites, modern day Turkey. Archeologists have dated the destruction of Jericho yo Circa 1500 BCE. For any participation, Joshua would have had to receive arms from the Dynastic Egyptian forces and fought along side them. As the forces pressed northward, the refugees dispersed into various fortified cities. And stirred up the lower class populace to disrupt the normal workings of the city making it easier to destroy the rulers. Where this was not effective, then a direct onslaught would occur. Such tactics makes use of non-combatants to greatest effect.

      Khirbet el-Maqatir

  • @TheInternetBlows
    @TheInternetBlows 9 месяцев назад

    1. The account in Joshua says that he and his army camped to the North and that the valley was located between him and the city of Ai. The valley you refer to is to the west of Khirbet el-Maqatir. Thus disproving that this site relates to the biblical account based on simple geography.
    2. Further more, you describe the site you are arguing for at Khirbet el-Maqatir as only 3 acres in size. Joshua 7 does mention that is was a small town. But also specifically mentions that Joshua initially sent "3000" warriors to attack, at which point the men of Ai "came out of the city" and defeated the Israelites. This seems unlikely that a small 3 acre fortress would house enough warriors that could be sent out to so easily defeat the alleged Israelite army of 3000. Indeed in Joshua 8, the Israelites required 30,000 warriors to defeat the city of Ai.
    So your claim fails based on the basic geography and on the simple military logistics of the situation. Khirbet el-Maqatir does not substantiate the biblical story.

    • @strickersniper7909
      @strickersniper7909 9 месяцев назад

      Joshua 7:4-5 about 3000 of the people made the attack but they fled before the army at ai, who killed 36 of them. They pursued them from the city gate to the Sheba rim and defeated them on the descent, so that the confidence of the people melted away like water.
      Sounds like Joshua sent enough people but upon the site of another army they fled the scene. This is a discipline issue on the side of the commander of the division sent to try and take the city.
      Tactically it makes sense to something different from the first attempt if a battle fails.
      Because the army at ai thought that Joshua was going to do something similar to the failed attempt in chapter 7 ,but Joshua went with an ambush instead of confronting the army at ai up front in chapter 8. Feel free to add something different if you disagree with my interpretation of the text.
