Why give so much importance to a company that is not even in the top 20 of the world's largest steel producers (China has the largest steel company in the world and several others in the top 10). If the company is being sold it is because it is no longer competitive and probably not very profitable. Even Luxembourg, which is a tiny country, produces more than the 3 largest US steel companies combined.
Japan will probably restructure the company and lay off or replace a some workers to make it more productive. Surely the company will continue to maintain its business, I don't see the company stopping selling steel to U.S. companies.

Between the democrats taxing and the Union gouging, I don't blame US Steel one bit from getting out from underneath all that while trying to stay in business, Maybe if Biden would of infra-structured like he said, US Steel would of held in there ! Another issue are these investment firms that have that bottom dollar return margin, They want to guarantee investment security, And US Steel can't compete, Those Automotive plants will be jumping ship before long also. People don't get it, The democrats had union backing, Meanwhile, knowing the big four auto companies were jumping ship !
