The best intro ever. I'll never forget the deep 80's when I was a kid and secretly watched some oldschools at midnight like Harry or Rambo. It'll never come back
Two words: JAMES BOND!!! I just remember watching all those VHS copies of classic Connery and Moore Bond movies and hearing this hauntingly elegant and triumphant theme followed immediately by the opening gun barrel sequence. Absolutely classic!!!
This intro can be found on the Rocky III Blu Ray... couldn't believe it when I saw it... all pristine and sounding nice... one of my all time most favorite and spooky movie intros.
Spooky is the correct word. When the orchestra starts to kick in, for the first couple of seconds it sounds exactly like a creepy sting from a horror movie. It always made my child self rather apprehensive.
Went back at least as far as the '70s. I once had a VHS of 1976's "Burnt Offerings" & this was the logo it started with. Made the film that much more suspenseful.
Always got chills when this animated logo ran. It is the best ever. And imagine after hearing this, the majestic horns of the Rocky I intro begin to play. Now that is epic.
Pretty cool 80s logo. And believe it or not one that must've been made on a shoestring budget, too (If you've read about it over on the CLG Wiki site - The logo was a live-action wooden carving with metallic paint, turned by a black stick in front of a black piece of construction paper...actually blows the mind when you find out the behind-the-scenes stuff, don't it?)
I was a kid in the 1980s and the United Artists song gave me the chills when A United Artists movie starring Roy Scheider came on HBO back in the 1980s.
@@joshpritt7187 i think its the one movie with Meryl Streep. one part of that movie which was the ending was where Roy Scheider and the evil woman were at that ocean cliff side area. That movie scared me lol. Thanks alot United Artists
Same here. I'd be expecting the Pink Panther or Bugs Bunny, and suddenly instead there would be this dark screen, weird silhouette, ominous droning music before the sudden thunderingly loud musical flourish. And the somewhat fuzzy picture on old tube TVs made it worse - you were never quite sure what you were seeing until the UA symbol was visible.
There's a movie called The Beast Within with Ronnie Cox. when I was about 10 years old I remember seeing it as a double feature with Poltergeist and this was the intro of the movie. It always reminds me of that movie and send chills down my spine just because that movie gave me nightmares for weeks. Love it!! Thanks for sharing!!
I love it. Dark and sad sounding, then extremely majestic. This is pure awesome. And OmicronXI, the only DVD i've seen this logo on is the '07 release of "The Secret of NIMH". But it's on quite a few CBS-FOX James Bond tapes, "From Russia With Love" for example.
You can find a version with better audio and that doesn't get cut off at the end if you search for "United Artists Tourant." This is one of my favorite movie studio logo sequences ever. The only one that is better is Tri-Star Pictures.
remember thinking ..."ooo whats gonna happen next". as it winds up into that grant explosion of such simple notes each eclipsing the next is supreme completion. just like also sprach zarathrusta but better
this is the ua turning logo, 1982-1986, i think. i have a odd stereo version on " you only live twice", 1984 cbs/fox video. the first half (the quiet part) has a duphonic like effect on the right and normal on the left. as soon as it goes loud, it is in true stereo- a bit more crisp.
I think what made this more creepy and mysterious as a 5-year-old for me rather than as 29 year old was the fact that I didn't read the logo as a stylized U and an A. I remember studying the shape, how the U looked like the U-bend of the sink pipes, and then that crazy A like some kind of slide or something. A weird alien object.
Wasn't there a UA logo in the 60's at the end of "Outer Limits" that had "United Artists" spelled in white between parentheses and when the moved "United Artists" was spelled in black then the parenthses came together to form "UA?"
I remember seeing this on the VHS of The Plague Dogs. This logo followed by the ominous intro to that film (and the film in general) led to me being very creeped out whenever I saw this!
Didn't David Gordon Green used this logo for his film "Undertow". I didn't see the whole film but parts of it and I remeber seeing this UA logo instead of the newer logo.
@amberola1b By any chance did that 70s version have the catchy bass guitar music? If it does, do you happen to know where I might find it on RUclips? Thanks.
I have a copy of the movie Still Of The Night (with Roy Scheider) featuring this logo and let me tell you, that it fits perfectly for that good thriller flick, especially the title sequence which takes place at night.
this logo can be found on most 1982-1986? vhs tapes by cbs/fox and mgm. if it is releasesd by ua, it may show up. however, the mgm/ua 1986 logo showed up on the 1995 re-issue of octopussy.
yeah please upload that 16mm tape i will start to look for that UA theme in old VHS Pink panther cartoons in public libraries if i findit i will upload it
I Miss this logo,i seen it on tv back in the 1980's from films like- A BRIDGE TOO FAR, THE DOGS OF WAR, also BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA, GREAT MEMORIES
This logo was designed by Sandy Dvore. It was an actual rotating metal "sculpture" that Sandy has at his home. He also designed many other logos and graphical sequences.
Yeah. I was scared of this too. I finally realized why. This intro was before The Secret of NIMH movie (1982), which I liked but also sort of scared me.
I have loved this logo fo ryears I even joined a yahoo group looking for it closinglogogroup, decided to check again, thanks I have in my old VHS copy of "The Secret of Nihm"
I used to turn all the lights off when this jingle came before the Pink Panther cartoons and one night my dad creeped in from behind the couch and shake it when the dramatic high notes played. I jumped off the couch scared off my butt.
I know someone with a 16mm of a pink panther with this in the beginning of it and I have a live showing of it on video with the audience reaction. It is on 16mm...
Why is it cut off early!?!?!?! Jeez! No disrespect, but that ruins it when the end is cut short like that. For the full, unbutchered logo/theme, check out "United Artists Tournant" (should be listed on the right side of the this page).
great intro , united artists set up by douglas fairbanks, mary pickford, charlie chaplin, david griffith in 1919 so they could control there own interests and not be taken advantage of by the studios.
I used to have a VHS with that UA United artist logo theme with booming sounds those booming sounds played this 1982 to 1987 theme then an old pink panther cartoon starts. And that old UA theme was scarier than this 1980s one. ANYONE HAS THAT UA THEME FROM THE 60s or 70s?
