Wiki can't provide you the atmosphere tho. Having said that... Watching a no commentary walkthrough is more like watching a movie. The big difference is that you are aware of the interaction element; the avatar is a real human playing the game, so you may end up cheering for him and admiring his skills. Sounds a lot like watching sports and in actuality it kinda is. For someone who likes horrors and isn't a gamer it seems reasonable to recommend a watch of Dark Souls 1 / 2 / 3. Reading through the lore just isn't enough. Those landscapes... I can't be the only person admiring them, right?
Holy crappola that letter from Madeline and your response combined was one of the most wholesome things I've experienced in a long time. An actual, genuine interaction of some sort about that sort of thing is so damn refreshing.
The speech about the sense of accomplishment one gets from beating a game and how you had failed to do so once was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. That was really great, Guy, you’re the best.
There's actually a guy that lost an arm and he still managed to finish dark souls, or the guys playing it with a guitar hero controller. To make a point to the sentence, an keep it short. Those people are in my opinion leading examples, because they show you can achieve it if you really want it. Tldr fuck easy mode
ThatCynicalOtaku I'm stuck at work right now, so I copied the first link I saw. ruclips.net/video/IDP_gdFrBkI/видео.html I'll try to find the article later at home, I think i saw it on nerdist or kotaku
I believe you! Actually, I'm born with one arm and I DO play GH with my arm and foot! I use normal controllers for other games tho, but I do see that it would be easier with it! I wonder what program he used to be able to play with a GH guitar tho
Gamer Sisters you can just look it up on RUclips dark souls guitar hero controller. There's a bunch of them playing it that way, and it's sick as hell when you see some one beating the everlasting shit out of bosses you struggled with the dirty casual set up
i know where you're coming from, but people like him are like the crazy good exception to that rule, and it would just be cruel and unfair to hold other handicapped people to that standard "HEY THIS GUY COULD BEAT DARK SOULS WITH ONE ARMS, WHY CAN'T YOU?? YOU USELESS ONE-ARMED PIECE OF SHIT"
Hear me out Nate. This episode of WIAGW was the best example of why you should separate the mail bag and questions from the main topic. The way you finished the main topic with the story and the nice fade out would have made a perfect self contained video for current and future viewers. The issue with the mail bag and questions section is that, as community engagement tools, they are only relevant the week that the video comes out. For potential future viewers watching through a backlog of WIAGW videos those sections will just be useless padding, and will hurt the marathonability of a WIAGW playlist. Which is important for new subscribers trying to get into your content. Just something to think about.
I'll be the other side of this. I'm all for keeping every WIAGW in one video because its all nice, neat, and contained in one video. Just because you switch topics doesnt mean you should have to seperate them. And on the point of someone marathoning the WIAGW videos, you could literally just watch the first part and then go to the next video, its that easy. 90% of the time when I watch these, I do so at work where I put on a video and listen until I have to change videos to fill out my 10 hour day. So longer videos are much easier for me because I dont have to stop what Im doing to switch (a big reason I enjoy the PCP length). So I'd REALLY prefer keeping these as one video, I dont understand the complaint.
Actually I have a similar problem. I once presented my friend with a link to a WIAGW video and she watched it through the end just because there were some things related to the starting topic. I think it was about Princess Tutu, but can't tell for sure now. How about doing a part 1 and part 2 split?
There's also the matter of the video length, at least in this case, being doubled. There's many people that I know who might be hesitant watch a 30 minute video, but would click on a 15 minute one without hesitation.
1. Miyazaki said already that the difficulty in Dark Souls is part of the narrative. The game is easy when you should feel strong, and it's hard to give emphasis an important moment. 2. What's difficulty what's not depends from person to person. I can't beat any shooting game, ever. I couldn't finish FEAR because I can't aim even if my life depended on it. I can't beat any CoD campaign. And I've beaten all Dark Souls, DLCs included as a SL 1 character. Do I want every single shooting game to have an easy mode? No, I just accept that those aren't for me and if I really like the game, I just keep pushing. You're bound to eventually succeed. 3. Finally: Dark Souls/Bloodborne being hard is just a marketing bullshit spread by Namco and their trash marketing them. Souls games are not hard, they just play very differently from other similar games so you go in with the wrong mindset. Not only that, the game gives you multiple ways to approach encounters; different weapons, leveling, going somewhere else first, or the actual easy mode of the game: Summoning. I see people calling souls hard keep making the same mistakes over and over instead of trying something different.
Regarding that past point, look at bullet hells, if they were any easier, they aren't "bullet hells" any more Certain bullet hells have difficulty meters, but the easiest are still crazy with the bullets, because that's a bullet hell. And if someone asks to make Multiplayer games easier should just not be allowed internet and friends/people
Well I could say the same about Dark Souls. How could people have so much trouble when the enemies telegraph so much their attacks and by pressing circle you get to be invincible no matter what? How could people have trouble with bosses when all you have to do is strafe left and press circle before an attack? How could people think the smithing and upgrades are confusing when the game shoves it in your face? How could people get lost in the beggining when the NPC straight up tells you where the fuck you should go? I goes on. Like I said, difficulty varies from person to person, depending on their experiences. While everyone grew up playing FPS I was more into RPGs, so I never actually trained my aiming, so I can't aim for shit.
I appreciate you taking that moment to look at your comedy and persona from a more serious-ish perspective. I defiantly don't think it's something you need to do unless someone asks for clarification and you want to, like in response to that letter. But it is nice to hear you address those kinds of comments, especially since I get annoyed with some political, social-type jokes you and other members of the PCP make all the time, but I've just learned to let it go since I value other aspects of all of your content more.
I think games like the older Monster Hunter games does a good job with difficulty. Casuals could get a lot out of the game by just doing offline village quests. While the more hardcore could go in online mode solo or not for more challenging quests.
It's funny when you consider the fact that books don't face such a criticism. A book that is too complex for, say, a mentally handicapped to understand, then why should the author cater to them?
You can already skip anything you want in a book, which is usually what these types want, same as how you can skip scenes in a movie or chapters in a manga.
@Thirty-Six The text itself isn't the only part of it, there could be an entire story within the subtext of a scene of a movie or a book that goes on without being understood by most people. Doesn't mean the storywriters should resort to more accessable story-telling methods. Sure enough the book won't stop you from reading through the rest of the book but if you can't understand it you won't "get your money's worth off of it" or "get the intended experience", something like that. Games add a challenging interaxtive experience in addition to the possibility of having challenging storytelling, so it's more of another way to gate content for fans that are willing to put in the effort to grasp the intent of the game design and such.
Beucase for a writer to make a book easier to understand they would have to either become a better writer or give up on some of the content of the book, it's not as much of a choice as in games' case.
so this was the first time I've ever seen you, nate, and thinking back on this, I think you may be the first person I've ever come across online where my expected mental image of you matched near perfectly to how you actually look irl. and that's the most surreal thing I've had on my mind in recent times.
Have you heard about accessibility in Naughty Dog games? They range from auto aim to full auto climbing/parkour. The response from the disabled gamers was overwhelmingly positive, saying after many years that they were finally able to enjoy a game to it's fullest.
This may seem like a small thing to use, means a world to those disabled gamers who struggled to play games normally. Naughty Dog said upfront that they want the most amount of people to enjoy their games. I think it's a commendable effort.
Your thoughts are very insightful given you are sort of gamer who likes *"overcoming challenges"* From my perspective, I play to *"get a meaningful experience"* , i.e., the game gives me emotions, either through story, characters, challenge(combat/puzzle), interactions(games are interactive) etc. That way, I play on intended difficulties (like Master in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Devil Hunter mode in Devil May Cry games) and usually don't mind games with no difficulty (like Assassin's Creed II, my fav action adventure game)
I actually have been thinking for some minutes after I finished the video aout your conversation with Madeline. Not that much about the point on political correctness, but about the way you confront a critic. The way that you just try to get the best out of the commentary she made without getting mad at all, making sure you put on the table all the reasons why you do what you do, consciously, and why you think they are a responsable way of acting as a public person is amazing. Not only because it states that you are a man of reason that has this mindset of freedom of action, but because you absorb the pionts she makes to make yours stronger or to slightly modify them open-mindedly. Hope to see more of this content, keep it up ^^ (also sorry for my english, spanish subscriber here).
1.first time watching your videos 2.notices I'm not subscribed 3.check your channel for what kind of other content you make 4.sees how you introduce yourself in the video while looking through your catalog 5.subscribe instantly *Good job guy*
Thanks man, you just explained how I have felt about this matter for so long! A recent annoyance i experienced was that of the different experience i had in shadow of war compared to many other people. Others said the game was too easy but if you increased the difficulty, it became incredibly hard and it was a totally different experience.
That Super Mario Brother story reminds me of why Banjo-Kazooie is my favorite game. I could not beat it on my first playthrough as a 6-year old and I gave up, returning to it 4 years later and finally beating it, it gave me the most satisfying gaming experience known to me.
One of the best WIAGW`s you`ve done so far. I got weirdly emotionally invested in your story about Mario and the way that playing video games has shaped you as a person, even though I am a filthy casual myself. It really makes me want to delve deeper into the medium. Also I gotta applaud your response to Madeline. While I do think that she came from a place that makes sense to her, your response perfectly summarises the things that bothered me about it. At the end of the day your content is the way it is because you are the way you are (people die if they killed) and you should not have to alter the way you present it just to satisfy a part of your audience. I also wanted to add that, as the, slightly more social, female counterpart of your past self, your male perspective really helps me to grasp the behaviour of guys in my life. While, most of the time, I still have trouble understanding where guys are coming from (spoiler alert: their dick), I think you especially helped me to not turn into the more annoying version of myself. Keep it up, dude
"You are the master of Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix Plus, you will feel accomplishment." > accomplishment Damn, this video came out just before the EA fiasco, didn't it? I was sure that was a reference of some kind.
A pretty interesting take on the subject that was both insightful and thought-provoking. If I were to say what I enjoy regarding game difficulty it would be when difficulty is in service of narrative. An example I'll draw on is Valkyrie Chronicles, a third-person tactical RPG of sorts that puts you as commander of a military squad defending your nation from the Imperial invaders. The game, at least for a first playthrough was quite difficult, I found myself groaning in anger when I lost an hour or more of progress and planning in some of the later stages because I didn't account for the turn limit, or didn't correctly use my units, didnt realise the equipment menu had more the 3 levels or because I didn't think about what the computer would do during their turn. I maintained perseverance and eventually found myself feeling over powered and climactic as the final boss music gave me a rush of hope I've experienced very few times in my life. It felt liberating, as if my long struggle was over and I could go back to life as normal. It helped me connect with the characters on another level emotionally, something I'm eternally grateful for as the game currently sits at the top of my favorites list.
Lingering Will: "So you've returned? Now show me your skill and mastery of... wait, what the hell is that???" Sora: "Fenrir and Negative Combo LOL." Lingering will: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!"
Little do people know that "Easy mode" and "Hard mode" in SoulsBorne games are already woven into the game's structure via the weapons you use. Wanna make things easy on yourself? Go get the Black Knight Halberd (generally speaking). Wanna make things harder on yourself? Use the ladle or another low damaging weapon.
Fuckin' Waltz For Zizi, man. Literally any personal story can be made really touching and nostalgic by adding that track in the background. You're my hero, Guy. As for difficulty, I've always felt that difficulty is another barrier of entry intrinsic with any art medium. If you want to experience a novel, you first have to get over the barrier of being literate. You then have to get over the barrier of being able to comprehend an author's syntax, symbolism, and motifs in order to truly understand the themes the author was trying to convey. If we're going to give games easy modes, we should require authors to have cliffnotes and summaries and explanations of all their stylistic choices in their books. And I don't want that, personally. (Play Waltz For Zizi while reading that last paragraph for maximum impact)
Ay there is so much i want to say about your response to that letter. honestly i want to praise you to the high heavens, i am one of those introverted fellows and i could never put so much of myself out there open to be critiszed by everyone like you and many content creators do, but there is just something that clicked so hard for me with your reponse. a very good attitude to life, i will try to incoperate into my life thank you for the amazing videos and i wish you sincerely all the best.
Havent finished the video but i think that all games should only have 2 difficulties: The regular difficulty (how the game is supposed to be played) The difficulty that kicks the shit out of you.
i got one hand. its missing just past the elbow. i have ALSO beaten multiple dark souls games (1 and 3, half of 2) and bloodborne... i even have me beating maria in bloodborne on my youtube channel, on my first try. it was fun.. and as a person who has a disability. i agree with you.. i dont want them to make an easy mode, i like a level playing field, and i dont want handicaps in my games.
"Why dark souls is too difficult?" Cos the lore says so. You are not supposed to mop the floor with monsters, they are supposed to mop the floor with YOU. Its in the game. YOU WILL DIE AGAIN AND AGAIN. ITS PART OF THE RIDE. People that complain about that just dont get this.
To my knowledge, people don't complain because they die; they complain because they die to what they see as unfair. DS2 is probably the biggest offender of this because everything moves like a slug, including the player; thus, it feels like your character doesn't react fast enough all the time due to the implementation of Agility. There are also plenty of cheap tricks throughout the game. Sure, DS1 and DS3 punish the player for running in without looking at their surroundings, but a lot of DS2 is just unfair. Keep in mind DS1 and DS3 are not entirely devoid of unfairness. Tomb of the Giants which is simply easier to die over and over trying to run past the enemies, Lost Izalith which is just kind of meh with one of the most unfair boss fights in human history, Irithyll Dungeon is kind of a mess as the player has no idea where they're going and why, Archdragon Peak is just hidden away with barely any hint besides seeing a meditating guy there assuming you remember that far back (AP also has some of the most annoying enemies in the whole game), and don't get me started on the DS3 quests and how easy it is to break them without knowing you did so. EDIT: Also forgot fucking Ash Lake in DS1 with its fucking broken tree branch platforming where you slide off branches like they were made of petroleum jelly and there's actually a part halfway down that tree where you can't go backwards anymore (it's like a very tiny incline that usually has a message that says "Bug?" and your character should clearly be able to walk over by raising their foot by two centimeters). This "Dark Souls is fair" meme needs to die.
Dark Souls is fair....when its not buggy and complete. Honestly the only thing I found a little unfair was that "some" game mechanics needed to be explained alot better early on. If I have to look something crucial to the experience up to get a vague sense of how it works, thats bad game design in my opinion. I'll admit though I felt like Dks2 was a little mean to completely new comers, especially if they had no friends to support. Being invaded while hollow lmao. ToG was completely fair, Irythil Dungeon was messy but fair and I say they're fair because they aren't hard if done reasonably, they work as intended.Lost izalith was incomplete and rushed from what I gather. I don't really see how an easy mode would "help" in most of the unfair cases and not fundamentally alter the experience too much in the fair cases. I won't bother defending the slippery terrain despite having fondness for it.
Lordlittletoe q ToG fair? The game actually dims your screen to prevent you from raising brightness. You can tell it's artificial darkness entirely by walking between the edge of Tomb of Giants and the front of Nito's cave. Why does this matter? Because using a shield in ToG is next to impossible without a greatshield type build. Not like it matters when the skeletons on all fours drain stamina like a bitch anyway, hit like a truck, and you HAVE to use the lantern to know where you're going. Basically, as I learned on my first playthrough with shield and spear, you have to use the lantern and the moment you aggro an enemy, switch to the greatshield to block and try to circle the skeleton hoping you don't walk off a cliff. Speaking of the lantern, you already need to be in ToG and have to get into the pit Patches kicks you in to even get it (unless you're lucky and get it from the necromancers on the first playthrough or already know to farm it from the necromancers). This leaves the player quite literally in the dark unless they happen to have bought a bunch of prism stones to test in front of themselves to make sure they don't die going off a cliff (which is tedious all on its own). Eventually, I mastered running past everything with a lantern up and wearing nothing everytime I went to fight Nito. It's an extremely tedious area that really makes playing any shield-using character frustrating. Irithyll Dungeon isn't so much as unfair as annoying and kind of confusing. On going into this location, I was unsure of where exactly I was even going half the time and the enemies that lower your health by line of sight were nothing but a nuisance. The problem is that they're literally everywhere and make fighting other enemies at the same time a bitch, so they end up becoming the first thing that has to die before anything else. My biggest grievance with Irithyll Dungeon, honestly, is the Giant. I'm not sure how the hell you're supposed to fight this guy. What I eventually ended up doing was shooting arrows at him from the entrance and then running over to him and smacking his hand, run back to entrance and wait for him to deaggro, rinse and repeat. It took atleast 30 minutes of this for the bastard to die. This area just wasn't very memorable to me, same as Profaned Capital. Profaned Capital just has barely anything there, while Irithyll Dungeon is just a maze filled with monotonous events and annoying shit. Unfair might not be the best descriptor of Irithyll Dungeon, on second thought; I will say DS3 has way less problems than most of the other Dark Souls games, tho.
my first time 1ccing subterranean animism I yelled out so god damn loudly even though I wasn't home alone because it just so satisfying to finally accomplish also sweet intro
Part of this whole debate is that people give too much weight to the game over screen. They look at their deaths in cuphead and say it's too hard for them, but the fact of the matter is that cuphead is a game ABOUT dying. My favorite types of games allow you to attempt the same challenge over and over in quick succession until you succeed, because I love trying to perfect my gameplay to accomplish a goal; and when the victory screen is finally there, i know that I achieved that using all of the previous failures as a springboard.
i don't understand why these people who want to change difficulty doesn't just play different games. there's a shit ton out there. these kind of games appeal to a demographic of people who like difficult games that are only difficult. if you implement difficulty modes into it you water down the experience for that demographic. its like wanting a RPG to be more linear because you don't like RPGs. those people should stop worrying about what other people enjoy and start worrying about what THEY enjoy
Mat Pont its just beta mindset. our generation is a very whiny and entitled one. we want to feel accomplished and be praised for being in the conversation about relevant stuff, but a lot of people dont want to put in the effort to do said thing. and would rather bitch at other people to make their lives easier.
Because people enjoy games for different reasons. If someone enjoys Dark Souls for the atmosphere and lore, they should not play it because of the difficulty?
Tackson Caswell This is sadly true. People demand for things to be made for them and then rage without the thought of, "Hey, maybe this game just isn't for me." The choice to keep playing is theirs and despite the bitching they usually do.
"if you only want the lettuce then go elsewhere like a supermarket that sells the product individually" If you don't want to put effort into the game then just watch someone else play it.
I braced myself, but very good response to Madeline's letter. Some of that humor has irked me at times, when it seems less clear to me how much you're joking, but you handled and explained very clearly and respectfully. Respect from this guy for being kool!
A good implementation of difficulty settings came with perfect dark, timesplitters, and I believe some other late 90s early 200X shooters where higher difficulties adds objectives and sometimes all new areas with higher difficulties.
tldr; There is most likely a solution to accessibility without compromising on challenge Its definitely an interesting design question; I'm a big fan of accessibility and I'm also a huge fan of the point BGE made that having a single version of a boss for everyone to share and overcome is great for the community and the feel of the triumph as a whole. So you're asking is there a way to do this without compromising on either. Which the go-to for accessibility is a difficulty level which in this case obviously doesn't work. Instead, try to identify if the players want to play Dark Souls but don't necessarily want the challenge, what do they want? The world, game feel, game mechanics, whatever, and deliver something that facilitates that alongside the current game without handing out a free pass against bosses and completing the game. But yeah it's From Softwares choice if they wanna cater to that market, there's no obligation and it would require a lot of extra work.
I like the way Halo does it where there is Normal, Heroic and Legendary. The games themselves describe the modes as what they are, Normal is for people who want the story, Heroic is "the way halo is meant to be played" and Legendary is meant for those who want an unfair challenge. Yes an unfair challenge. Good video Nate, I agree with your sentiments, game difficulty shouldn't be fucked with unless the game is designed to be alterable.
Yo yo Bestie, thank you for your content and especially for being you! The problem that gal there had is one, a girl in my class also had with me and a friend, when we made sexual jokes in arts class and she got really uncomfertable as the time progressed (we sat on one table) and when my buddy made a joke which she saw in the territory of a rape joke (which it wasn't - she just got triggered) she told us to shut up. But as #teamfreespeak as I am, I told her that we can talk what we want and when she has problems, she can go to another table or just try to not listen to us. But she wasn't please and another of the females came to her aim. It wasn't really solved, but later I made a joke including a tampon and a microwaves and she digged it, something I found weird and talked about with her. Long story short - we agreed to disagree, but thanks for this comment Madeleine, I will cladly steal BGE content here and show it every by jokes or phrased sentences offended person I met. Stay awesome!
When you said Final Mix Plus II, I practically had a fuckin 'nam flashback. I poured so many hours into beating Organization XIII and Lingering Will, and I've never worked so hard or rage quit so many times, and when I finally won the gold crown, the sense of accomplishment was sort of unbelievable. God I miss playing video games.
I dark souls had an 'easy mode' (there is an easy mode its called sorcerer build) then that would destroy the worth of the actual GAME PLAY. The finely crafted experience that gives players a multitude of methods to overcome each obstacle. (I beat a boss by chucking poison bombs from outside the boss zone where I couldn't be harmed. I literally won by spending money at a vendor.) Oh wait there is one true easy mode, its called watching play throughs on youtube.
The problem is some people want to make it so everyone could enjoy everything. But when you do that, when you try to appeal to everyone you lose your identity.
But Nate you could totally play dark souls without hands. Haven´t you seen the video of the dude who beat dark souls with voice commands? Truly madness indeed
5 minutes in, difficulty selection is great an all, but I think the ideal option is a scaling difficulty similar to Resident Evil 4's. Woah that sentimental moment 0.0
in terms of your statement having an easy mode will weigh on the minds of those who look for a challenge what about just the satisfaction of completing the hard mode? i mean, isn't it kinda the same? i'm not exactly sure on this cuz im quite a casual as well but in theory should they be the same? In conversation you can just say "hey i finished the hard mode!" idk
for reference people, look up in youtube HalfCoordinated Momodora: Reverie under the moonlight, HC is a speedrunner with an illness in his arms, where he can use only one perfectly, and he speedruns momodora:RUtM in insane difficulty with just one hand, and has achieved the WR in the game, he rose up to the challenge since in that difficulty you get oneshot by everything, tie it up to the video
Idk, take the Touhou series as an example. Those games have 4 difficulty levels, ranging from easy to lunatic. If a more casual player just wants to play for fun they can do easy mode and have a good time, meanwhile, more hardcore gamers can just challenge themselves on those harder difficulties. The fact that the game has easier difficulty levels doesn't make you feel like less of a God when you pull of that 1cc on lunatic mode.
What's with 2B Hillary
You just made me think about Hillary's ass, thanks for that.
"Androids don't have emotions"
You want to ****** Hillary, don't you?
15:15 I will never hear that phrase again and not *immediately* think of the fucking "SIIIIIMPLE AND CLEEEEEAN" song. Your KH lecture has broken me.
Best intro in the universe
Dark Demon Blood.
Fuck yes my dude.
Um I skip gameplay all the time it's called a no commentary let's-play
My hero! :D
Right? If all you care about is the lore just google the wiki, go nuts
Nate is slowly becoming the ultimate Chad Mentor.
Yes very slowly. Like no new videos for months.
Holy crappola that letter from Madeline and your response combined was one of the most wholesome things I've experienced in a long time. An actual, genuine interaction of some sort about that sort of thing is so damn refreshing.

Ari Vishnu That is indeed the truth of the matter
Man what a great guy nate is. Not only his points are great and thoughtful, but he's also a very nice guy! Keep up the good work man.
Well you are the Best Guy Ever. I've only ever taken your opinion as fact.
Dan Nguyen What if he tells you that it was a joke?
All of his opinions are the truest facts imaginable
The speech about the sense of accomplishment one gets from beating a game and how you had failed to do so once was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. That was really great, Guy, you’re the best.
There's actually a guy that lost an arm and he still managed to finish dark souls, or the guys playing it with a guitar hero controller.

"HEY THIS GUY COULD BEAT DARK SOULS WITH ONE ARMS, WHY CAN'T YOU??

Arthrimus I am legit watching these as Im checking out the channel and Im just skipping that shit :D
But Dark Souls has an easy mode already. Co-op exists.
You misspelled Magic
That game difficulty speech is Gold my friend, GOOOOLD!!!!!
I actually beat Dark Souls 1, did pvp and also SL1 run all with KB+M. It wasn't until Dark Souls 2 that I bought myself a controller.
Regarding that past point, look at bullet hells, if they were any easier, they aren't "bullet hells" any more
Certain bullet hells have difficulty meters, but the easiest are still crazy with the bullets, because that's a bullet hell.
How shooting does not involve reaction time or thinking?
Well I could argue dark souls is entirely in slow motion if you compare to how fast running and shooting usually is

Simple and clean is the way that you're making me feeel tooonight!
It's hard to let it go!
Is there something inside BGE that just compels him to make everything about Kingdom Hearts?
I think games like the older Monster Hunter games does a good job with difficulty. Casuals could get a lot out of the game by just doing offline village quests. While the more hardcore could go in online mode solo or not for more challenging quests.
It's funny when you consider the fact that books don't face such a criticism. A book that is too complex for, say, a mentally handicapped to understand, then why should the author cater to them?
You can already skip anything you want in a book, which is usually what these types want, same as how you can skip scenes in a movie or chapters in a manga.
why bring a mentally handicapped when we are talking about casual gamers?
Also BULLSHIT.
Ulysses is the dark souls of books.
@Thirty-Six
The text itself isn't the only part of it, there could be an entire story within the subtext of a scene of a movie or a book that goes on without being understood by most people.
Abraham Link you know what, I disagree with BGE on this, but that's a really interesting point.
Beucase for a writer to make a book easier to understand they would have to either become a better writer or give up on some of the content of the book, it's not as much of a choice as in games' case.
found your channel by accident and I'm officially a fan
Dark souls already has an easy mode, it's called leveling up.
so this was the first time I've ever seen you, nate, and thinking back on this, I think you may be the first person I've ever come across online where my expected mental image of you matched near perfectly to how you actually look irl. and that's the most surreal thing I've had on my mind in recent times.
Have you heard about accessibility in Naughty Dog games?
They range from auto aim to full auto climbing/parkour. The response from the disabled gamers was overwhelmingly positive, saying after many years that they were finally able to enjoy a game to it's fullest.
Hemang Chauhan That seems more like adjusting the game's controls, rather than offering difficulty modes.
This may seem like a small thing to use, means a world to those disabled gamers who struggled to play games normally.
Naughty Dog said upfront that they want the most amount of people to enjoy their games. I think it's a commendable effort.
Your thoughts are very insightful given you are sort of gamer who likes *"overcoming challenges"*
From my perspective, I play to *"get a meaningful experience"* , i.e., the game gives me emotions, either through story, characters, challenge(combat/puzzle), interactions(games are interactive) etc.

Simple and clean is the way that you're making me feel, tonight! It's hard to let it go.
This might just be the best episode of WIAGW yet. Your personality is seeping through every word you say. Highly engaging.
It's crazy, you're low key the best review/commentator of shit I've seen in MANY years. How do you not have more views?
1.first time watching your videos
2.notices I'm not subscribed
3.check your channel for what kind of other content you make
4.sees how you introduce yourself in the video while looking through your catalog
5.subscribe instantly
*Good job guy*
your sunglasses always kind of remind me of the Dark Souls 1 Channelers.
Goddamn this video was emotional, great work Nate!
"You are the master of Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix Plus, you will feel accomplishment."
> accomplishment
Damn, this video came out just before the EA fiasco, didn't it? I was sure that was a reference of some kind.
Can Nate do a video shirtless? No particular reason just because I want him too.
really mature and thoughtful response to madelynn's mail. great job man, i appreciate and respect you for that.
Dang Nate, every week you prove why you are in fact the best guy ever.
" You got the feeling you understand the youtuber much better now"
S.Link RANK UP!
Just started on chain of memories and that tip couldnt have come at a better time, Thanks BGE!
This was great to listen to in the background while getting some stuff done. Really like the points you made! Keep up the great work!
Man that video was great. And that speach spoke to me despite the fact that I'm a filthy casual. You are very prolific in your videos. Good job man.
"For me, the most difficult has to be the Orphan of Kos" Hahaha best guy ever, most guys dont even get that far....
Legitimately one of the best videos I've ever seen. I'm shook.
Lingering Will: "So you've returned? Now show me your skill and mastery of... wait, what the hell is that???"
Sora: "Fenrir and Negative Combo LOL."
Lingering will: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!"
Everyone is missing the fact that... there are more than two types of gamers: harcore and casuls. Shocking, I know.
dude world 8-1 was a fucking killer. that one stumped me and my brother for like months.
Seconding the Goblin Slayer recommendation.
Eyyyyy didn't know you watched this channel. Oh, and I third reading Goblin Slayer
4thing it
Oh and how's it going E;r
sick blade runner vid btw
This.
Love it when my favorite slightly-niche channels demonstrate overlapping points of interaction.
Havent finished the video but i think that all games should only have 2 difficulties:
The regular difficulty (how the game is supposed to be played)
The difficulty that kicks the shit out of you.
I was not prepared for Waltz for Zizi, reeled me right in for that flashback.
i got one hand. its missing just past the elbow. i have ALSO beaten multiple dark souls games (1 and 3, half of 2) and bloodborne... i even have me beating maria in bloodborne on my youtube channel, on my first try. it was fun.. and as a person who has a disability. i agree with you.. i dont want them to make an easy mode, i like a level playing field, and i dont want handicaps in my games.
yea. i bet.
Who didn‘t beat the hydra?
That miniboss was super easy
"Why dark souls is too difficult?" Cos the lore says so. You are not supposed to mop the floor with monsters, they are supposed to mop the floor with YOU. Its in the game. YOU WILL DIE AGAIN AND AGAIN. ITS PART OF THE RIDE. People that complain about that just dont get this.
Thank you, so much.
And there's an easy mode, it's called using magic.
Lordlittletoe q
ToG fair?
Still killing it with this stuff
my first time 1ccing subterranean animism I yelled out so god damn loudly even though I wasn't home alone because it just so satisfying to finally accomplish
also sweet intro
Mat Pont its just beta mindset. our generation is a very whiny and entitled one. we want to feel accomplished and be praised for being in the conversation about relevant stuff, but a lot of people dont want to put in the effort to do said thing. and would rather bitch at other people to make their lives easier.
thats why things like social justice have devolved to just ulterior motives and drama.
That was the best intro I've ever seen^^
A good implementation of difficulty settings came with perfect dark, timesplitters, and I believe some other late 90s early 200X shooters where higher difficulties adds objectives and sometimes all new areas with higher difficulties.
tldr; There is most likely a solution to accessibility without compromising on challenge
Its definitely an interesting design question; I'm a big fan of accessibility and I'm also a huge fan of the point BGE made that having a single version of a boss for everyone to share and overcome is great for the community and the feel of the triumph as a whole.
I think that was the best introduction I have ever seen.
Thank you for the vid Bestguy
I dark souls had an 'easy mode' (there is an easy mode its called sorcerer build) then that would destroy the worth of the actual GAME PLAY. The finely crafted experience that gives players a multitude of methods to overcome each obstacle. (I beat a boss by chucking poison bombs from outside the boss zone where I couldn't be harmed. I literally won by spending money at a vendor.)
Oh wait there is one true easy mode, its called watching play throughs on youtube.
i didn't even cry when my do died but i teared up when nate told the story about getting the gold crown
15:14 SIMPLE AND CLEAN IS THE WAY THAT YOU"RE MAKING ME FEEL TONIGHT
The Souls games do have an easy mode, though. It's called "summoning another player".
Nice intro. Always enjoyable man. Ill have to continue my Kingdom Hearts 1 gameplay
That response to Madelyn like damn you are just the perfect boy. It's like what everyone wants pr to be, instead of fake.
As someone who beat the OG Super Mario Bros. It was glorious feel to beat such a hard game, now I want to beat the game on the HARDER difficulty.
The problem is some people want to make it so everyone could enjoy everything.
But when you do that, when you try to appeal to everyone you lose your identity.
that was the greatest intro i have ever seen.
These intros just keep getting better.
You need to beat super mario bros. Please,i can,t stop thinking about it.
That neck tho. Flexing that neck game bestie boy
Triple glasses... just when I thought that you can't be more awesome! :o
I always sit on the drop when fighting the hydra because it's a safe area from what I remember.
>Plays Cowboy Bebop song
Pavlov response. Just started crying. Thanks Nate.
I m a shmup player and so have a solution to this whole situation ... Add scoring systems back into video games, remember those :-)
I don't know why it was so funny to see you just chuck your phone over your shoulder.
Holy shit I've been waiting for you to cover this since i bumped into your cuphead stream.
You really are, The best guy!
Ever!
My "white whale" is losing all of the golden keys in FFIII and not knowing what to do.
Joseph Anderson is the reason I’m getting into PC games again.
Oh i remember now... i remember the hapiness i felt after beating RAYMAN 1 on my phone. And now playing cuphead ... so good.
But Nate you could totally play dark souls without hands. Haven´t you seen the video of the dude who beat dark souls with voice commands? Truly madness indeed
It's all about the developer's vision. Whatever experience they want the player to have, that's what the difficulty should reflect.
Also, side note : I'm a woman and I like smashin' puss too so y'know
5 minutes in, difficulty selection is great an all, but I think the ideal option is a scaling difficulty similar to Resident Evil 4's.
Woah that sentimental moment 0.0
12:35 and this is when I found out Nate and I share some core ideals
in terms of your statement having an easy mode will weigh on the minds of those who look for a challenge what about just the satisfaction of completing the hard mode? i mean, isn't it kinda the same? i'm not exactly sure on this cuz im quite a casual as well but in theory should they be the same?
