I wouldn't want my doctor examining me down there either during my period! I don't think that part will ever change

Also, that silver belt is beautiful!

I found it in a sprawling antique shop in Wales when I was studying abroad and it might be the prettiest piece of “jewellery” I own.

I think this might be the best video on RUclips! A historical, environmentally friendly way of dealing with our period that isn't polluting! Yes please! How to make it? Check! What it's like wearing it? Check! Does it work? Check!
I have been searching for years, apparently in all the wrong places, and here you present all of the information for my favorite era and where you got that information from. I love it! Please please please keep making videos! You are amazing!

I’m now a great-grandmother. And I remember overhearing a conversation between my mother and my grandmother, in which my grandmother referred to “those horrible monthly cloths” and how glad she was of the modern alternatives!

Very interesting! I just yesterday watched Abby Cox's "answering questions about the 'I wore 18th c. clothing' video" and she talked about dealing with periods in 18th c. clothes, so your video is very timely to me! :)

Thank you for this educational video. It’s not talked about but I think it’s something we all have questions about. What did people do before earlier in history. So thank you. I appreciate all your hard work and research.

I wonder how this style feels in comparison to a modern reusable cloth pad. It seems like it could feel lumpy and maybe uncomfortable, but it is definitely interesting! I remember reading young adult novels from the 1970s and 80s, and they made mention of "sanitary belts". I had to ask my mom what they were because I had no idea as a young person in the early 2000s 😂

How can I make a serviette supporter? I would like to make one for my menstrual periods.
Also, can I recommend two layers of zorb fabric and a flannel layer underneath with a waterproof backing on the serviettes? Make them the same shape as the traditional sanitary serviettes, but with modern materials and you would, I think have a winner.

By 1900, the average woman had 3.5 children...she wasn't pregnant constantly and was menstruating fairly regularly. 8-14 children is more an early to late 1800s thing...

The device you were using to hold the pads is no different from a device my mother was wearing in the 40s, 50s, and 60s so it was a while before we got stick on pads.

Even in the late 70's and into the 80's, when my mom started menstruating she said belts were still a thing, usually just as available as the adhesive pads. But now we have tampons, cups, and discs as well!! It's amazing how far these products have come in a short time.

I would've had to hide in a hole during my period if I lived at this time in history. My period is HEAVY. Like, Texas massacre. These might work for women with light to moderate periods. I'm on an iron supplement because of mine. At least it worked for you. That's good news. Maybe you found a new thing you prefer now.

Oof I feel you. I have dismenorrhea with mine, suspected endometriosis. I am SO THANKFUL for the Depo shot now, I don't get my period so I don't experience that horrible sickness. But in some eras of history I'd probably be beaten or shamed because of how horrible mine are. Usually day one I can't even move, I can't eat, I sometimes can't even keep down water.

I agree that menstruation should not be a taboo topic. I don't mind talking about it. I mean, hello!! None of us would be here without them!! Most people with vaginas have periods. Issa fact.

  • @scouttyra

I just want you to know that I appreciate you saying "people have periods" in the beginning! There are many people (myself included) who have periods but aren't women. I also think that some people appreciate you not using "all women have periods" as, while normalising, isn't exactly correct since many women don't have periods for one reason or another (post-menopausal, hysterectomy, etc)

Why are inner layers made from good fabrik? There could be unprocessed raw materials instead
