This song was written BEFORE the movie was made, as a Tribute to his parents. John Barry lost his Mom and Dad within 4 months of each other, and was very sad, and tucked this song away, and when he was approached by the Film Company, he said, "I've already written the song about sadness, separation. loss,,,,,,,,,,,,," That interview is on you tube. Kudos to the Charlotte Symphony..... YOU NAILED IT ! YOUR pianist is TREACHEROUS !!!!!!!
I can't play the piano, but if I could and could play this, I would play it over and over until I died. It's the most wonderful and yet, poignant song in the world.
Funny , but when I heard this song ( I love piano music anyway), I put it on my bucket list to learn to play piano by hand , and one day play this song . I have learned to play it & I am so proud of myself ! Lol
I do play the piano and I can get lost in this song and play it over and over with people crying around the piano, dancing, and just staring lost in the melody, until I have to stop myself and then go home and listen to The Charlotte Philharmonic wear it out!!!!!! The pianist is married to the Maestro!!!!!
I play piano, not a trained or concert pianist, just an ear player and I play three or four nights a week and you wouldn't believe the reaction to this song, people crying, closing their eyes just standing still next to the piano, mesmerized, or just stopping when walking by......This is my favorite, and I play it at least once per night over and over again.
This song brings back memories of my dad when he passed away. This was the last song I ever played for him. I wanted to have him hear what I was actually doing all those years with my piano. I am appreciative of all his efforts championing me on music. I had this song played at his funeral. I was 20 years old at the time and now I'm 51. I certainly hope when its my time to leave here, I will see him again, in another vibration of time.
exquisite joy seems to be running on short supply these days! We have creatures running wild vandalizing everything - next will be this lovely music as there will be no more longing for lovely times gone by= be careful people
This is the music from my father's movie and it is indeed absolutely beautiful...we danced to it at my wedding and every time I hear it I think of him...and I know he and my mother are together now, somewhere quite amazing and wonderful and that I will see them again one day....
This piece of music will always touch my heart. My late husband and I watched this movie together and we were both touched to the core. We're both sentimentalist and loved each other very much. He passed away three years ago and still have some difficulties to move on. To this day, he will be in my heart forever.
How very beautiful!! Ethereal and so haunting. This composition and the performance touch my soul to its uttermost❤❤. I cannot hear this-even after all these years- without shedding many tears. So awesomely beautiful!! Thank you from an old man who has always found solace in music!!
Do we need words to express this beautiful music, and then add that mystic touch when our beloved is over there On The Other Side, Yes the music and the film say it all, the piano is magic.
I just love this song. I really feel such a connection to it. I’m a very romantic person. It’s so moving. God bless the talent , from the writing to the orchestra, and how expressive the player’s all are. Best wishes ♥️♥️🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
I was haunted by love and such an amazing person, who is lost forever - I refuse to give up and this piece makes me realize that love, however brief is worth everything
My wife and I took our kids when they were very young to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in the summer of 1994. We went after seeing the movie, Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. A wonderful movie and a place that should be on everyone's bucket list. Phenomenal and like going back in time, like in the movie. No cars on the island at that time except little delivery vans for the hotel.
I visited the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in the late '60's or early 1970's, it was a magical "get-away" with someone I loved for about 11 years or so, until death parted us. I hiked on trails and rode horse-back while business was attended to on the phone by my love, we had room service dinners on our terrace over-looking the lake and also dined in the elegant restaurant. It was one of the most memorable 5 or 6 days of my life, it beat out Paris, NY, Rome and other places we secretly met. I'll never forget it and this song makes my heart ache in remembering! It was a very special "Somewhere in Time" for us! (I play it on the piano and sometimes tears come and I can't see the keys, but I don't need to, I could play it blind, but I'd rather listen to the above or an orchestra and just sit back and remember what I said above!)
Wow how wonderful 💕 I watched this film when I was about 12...36 years ago and I still remember it to this day and the most breathtaking music. It broke my heart then as it does now 💔♥️
she is Patricia, the conductors wife. Two talented and lucky people, in love, So much more to say here, but it would be like chapters of a book. Just BRAVO
I heard this son a couple months ago for the first time. I stopped what I was doing and had a sudden connection to this beautiful song. Like a HUGE da'ja vo. I don't know what but it just gives me goosebumps and I start to cry. It was like I knew the song before I heard It.
Thank you very much for everyone who contributed to bringing this beautiful music to us. We all have our preferences to what music we enjoy and I like to think of myself as someone who can listen and enjoy good music regardless of the genre. Somewhere in Time is a melody that is so very haunting and beautiful it is, to me, magnificent and I can listen to it endlessly.
Hello from London sitting on the bus on my way to work Remembering love that has now gone But realise I was somewhere in time. This music brings butterfly’s to my soul Love love this music💕
The most beautiful version I've heard. Such feeling. The pianist is superb and when that horn comes in, oh, what it does to one's emotions! Thank you for sharing. 🎼
As I listen to this I close my eyes And I still see my precious husband of 45 years . For a moment all is well in my heart . Thank You God for the Gift of my husband in my life .I have been truly blessed indeed. Looking forward to the call of the great homecoming.

I can't not cry whenever I hear this beautiful piece of music. And to see Christopher Reeve in thr part of Richard Collier, the man who found the love of his life in a decade from the past and lost her. It's a masterpiece.
I imagine myself getting old and sitting on a rocking chair and looking out into a lake or ocean and listening to this music from a surround sound audio system. Just like how she was in the movie 'Somewhere In Time' at the begginning. Ahhhh...maybe when I die I hope this will be the song I listen to before I go. Just enchanting!
Probably Barry's most beautiful and heartfelt melody. Fine arrangement, too. Now I have to watch the movie again. Happily. And yes, I've been delighting in Barry's film music since The Knack and before.
So enchanting this serenade that grips your heart and soul and you can't let go without a struggle---beautiful, spontaneous and dangerous---what should I do????? July 3, 2019 was a lovely, sunny, summer day at Glenn and Connie’s house in San Clemente, CA. Mom’s breathing had become rattled that afternoon as she lay in her hospice bed overlooking the ocean, maintaining her struggle against the end stages of pancreatic cancer. In the next room, I started playing some of her favorite songs on the piano to relax her anxiety a little, while Rich checked her facial expressions for any discomfort. All looked good, she was not in pain; the nurses had just been in to bathe her and make sure she was as comfortable as possible. I played for over 45 minutes; all of the classics that were familiar to everyone in the family, especially the ones that Mom had taught me from her mother’s collection-Chopin, Beethoven, DeBussy, Tchaikovsky, and similar. When I went in to check on her afterwards, I heard the last bit of air escaping her lungs as she passed peacefully! I thought, the music has calmed her enough to let go! I called Dad and Rich in to witness her loving spirit soar out the open door, over the blue ocean to the endless azure skies above, where wispy, high clouds outlined the gossamer wings of angels to escort her on! It was beautiful; it was sad; it was a relief of her suffering the scars of battle with cancer; it was the final act of a long and eventful life that was lived to the fullest! Connie Lou Fisher- wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and even great grandmother; had passed from this earthly realm at 4pm.
I saw Jane Seymour at a book-signing a few years ago, and asked her to sign the case of my VCR copy of this beautiful, classic movie. She graciously smiled and signed it for me. What a beautiful lady.
This music is so nostalgic! It reminds one of what was possible, what should have been, and what was overlooked or missed. Listening, many of us reach back into lost memories and wish we'd made different choices. But, maybe we'll have an opportunity for a "do over" at a future time and place. Love is all that really matters.
Just watching the nuance created by the pianist's beautiful fingers, gently gliding over the keys, as well as the other players' soft treatment of this delicate melody, is a masterpiece in itself, and they convey its profound meaning to each of us, in a most fantastic manner.
Absolutely the most beautiful music ever. Since watching the movie it's never gone out of my head x why on earth would anyone give this the thumbs down
The movie to this is still one of my favorites... I can't find the movie anymore, but, that movie changed the way I think about how to love... Beyond space and time. 😇
This is so sad for me but so beautiful at the same time. The pianists hands remind me so much of my mum’s and she could play the piano the same although many years ago. I’ve lost both Mum and Dad but wherever you are are listen to this and think of me as I do you when I play this beautiful music. Love you both so much. XX

Tony Lopez I've been choosing music for my own funeral ( 92 yrs old). I heard this recording today of this one I've loved a long time and added it to my list. Then I read your comment! Now I must find a suitable arrangement for my pianist. I'm sure your dad appreciated your choice!
This version of this song is extravagant, highlighting its meaning of the song with inspirational hope the way it’s played is absolutely beautiful. It’s beauty of the song is overflowed with its unique tune in a dovely sound. I dedicate this song to my late husband/friend ( late since Jan 2018 ) that in hope I see again one day to come in forever glory glorious land. Somewhere in time.

XX

Somewhere in time is the best film I've ever ever seen!!! I've lost count how many times I have watched it, it must be in the 4 figures.
Can't ever get enough of this music, soundtrack, or the movie. My other two favorite romantic movies are Breakfast at Tiffany's and Sayonara
... beautiful melody ... it transports me my days of my childhood and youth ... I would only ask time ... for my loved ones to return who is no longer with me ... 🥺😥
I'm going to play this for my fiance; we've both lost our parents in recent years and I think it would be fitting to have it played at the reception
