  • Trigger points in the serratus anterior are common and are linked to a number of painful conditions including restricted breathing.
The serratus anterior forms the medial wall of the axilla, along with the upper five ribs. It is a large muscle composed of a series of finger-like slips. The lower slips interdigitate with the origin of the external oblique.

Thank you so much for such a Concise explanation,
I started feeling a cramp like pain, in my left side / back / lower rib area,
which started to hurt during breathing and acute regular movements.
The Pain is stabbing and sharp, which is super alarming because,
as you have explained, " it feels very disproportionate "
i recalled carrying up a large box and using my left arm to pull the weight of me and the box up 3 flights,
Thank you for this video, it helps a ton when a person is perfectly healthy and active,
which such a intense and sudden pain can be alarming.
    Thanks again and Subscribed !

Omg, this is me to a T. My left side is restricted causing me to breath on that side through my scalenes which is giving me neck issues and also involving my scm. We’re suppose to be able to breath all around the ribcage, posterior, frontal, and lateral but obviously my left (lateral )and even posterior isn’t functioning like it should. Could be weakness/trigger points then in the serratus then?
My left scapula doesn’t feel fixed to my ribs, just feels like it is hanging. My whole ribcage feels torqued. Your correct it can be quite a scary thing since it involves breathing/chest. I’m trying to strengthen my SA, but so far it has been back firing. I think my issues are weakness. I want to thank you for all this info!!!!

Does this muscle run under the arm or arm pit area? Is this muscle affected by rounded shoulders or poor posture? Can this muscle swell from over use or nerve issues?
