Well you technicly have to sacrifice 3 people to progress. The champion of the Areina: either Wisper's brother Thunder, (the evil option) and an unknown soul of a guy who died in the arena, (which is somehow more moral?) Honestly it's not more moral. It's just less personal. The oldest soul: Guildmaster Weaver, who was unwilling, or the revinent Nastro, who was semi-willing, but wants you to prove yourself first. And a femail hero, for whom you only had one choice, The hero of Albion's mother, but at least she was completely willing.
Fun Fact: There’s actually a Texas urban legend about a “donkey lady” who died in a fire after an unfortunate incident with a spoiled rich kid and a donkey. The story goes that she’s come back as some sort of grotesque half-donkey, half-lady ghost thing.
There's a pretty old highway in Wisconsin that also has a donkey lady. She was a hitchhiker who was supposedly picked up then murdered. Now she wanders the highway at night, hitchhiking and attacks anyone willing to pick her up.

Two things about the Fable bit: 1) Let's be real, Weaver had a five-maybe even a six-head, so there'd be _plenty_ of room to carve the message. 2) Sure, they may have retroactively made the hero of Albion evil, but it was an absolutely necessary evil nevertheless. In fact, Jack's truest evil wasn't attempting to condemn the world to darkness, but instead condemning it to listening to Weaver via a one way medieval walkie talkie that you couldn't mute. Hero of Albion indeed! Besides, if he didn't want to die, perhaps he should've had some _potions_ or _food_ on hand for when his health got low.

My first thought after seeing this title is the Mass Effect Trilogy, which had a habit of referencing their old mistakes in general. In short order, there's the Mako being canonically a rough ride, Shepard's silly dancing, Jack's "I will destroy you!", and like 80% of Conrad Verner's questline dialogue.

Bioshock Infinite has a pretty good one but it's easy to miss. When you enter the arcade, if you follow Elizabeth to the right, she comments on the new Dimwit and Duke cabinet, saying "I heard they got delayed three times." poking at Irrational's delays before release.
Mass Effect 3 could probably fill up such a list alone, particularly with the inclusion of Citadel DLC where Sheppard being a poor dancer is joked about by Normandy's crew during the party... how Sheppard's clone says "I should go" and the commander is fixiated on that... Conrad Verner's character from that installment of the game... Tali and Garrus making fun of ME1's long elevator rides (this applies to both ME2 and ME3 actually)... there's quite a bunch. In ME2's DLC "Lair of the Shadow Broker" Liara actually points out how it is stupid for enemies to attack in waves rather than charging the player's party all at once or how a Mako is a TERRIBLE vehicle ^^' Wow; Mass Effect really doesn't take itself too seriously :)

Pathalogic has a super secret hard ending where you can talk to the game developers, and ask questions about aspects of the game, and they openly admit they rushed the third character's story and that the speech system is not the best
While it's a valid criticism to point out that there's no way a normal person could kill that many people without some sort of psychological fallout, I feel the need to point out that in Nathan Drake's case, all of those people were trying to kill him - which means he's hardly a murderer. At worst, he's a soldier of fortune, guilty of putting himself in harm's way, and thus partially responsible for the resulting violence. At best, he's a survivor who just had to kill in self defense... a lot.
Gordon Freeman is relatable in the same sense. He fought his way past aliens to survive and just tried to get out even by killing military forces. The freeman's mind is a good example of the thought process, although obviously unofficial. XD
It was a fantastic game. I played it to death, even if my copy was one I got second hand that was scratched in just the right place to prevent it from being able to save the game, while being perfectly playable otherwise. I even repurchased it digitally on PS4.

That "in memorian" bit reminded me of a Jackie Chan movie in which, after they kill another random nameless goon in the middle of an action scene, the movie suddenly comes to a halt as it cuts to said nameless goon's family (a lovely wife and adorable precious kid) for a scene, living their lives, waiting for nameless goon to come back home "after work" as the phone rings with the bad news and the wife starts crying in denial while the kid asks where's daddy or something to that effect... right before cutting back Chan's hijinks in that same action scene. Soooo weird and out of left field!
Sounds similar to the (deleted?) scene in Austin powers when he runs over the henchman with an extremely slow steamroller and then we see his friends and family waiting for him.
Iron Bull from Dragon Age Inquisition complaining that his healer's poultices taste terrible to point out that Origins used "poultice" when it mean "potion". Poultices are *-applied topically.
Don't forget Iron Bull asking Varric where the bad guys come from in his novels because "the way you write it, it seems like they just come from out of nowhere and land on top of the hero," i.e. one of the biggest complaints about the hostiles in Dragon Age II which, of course, was a story narrated by Varric.
I also just remembered that one of the DA2 DLCs has jokes about how "all dungeons look the same to me" and "I guess we *do* spend an awful lot of time in the city."
I wonder how long it took them to decide exactly how many Henchmen to show for the joke. That seems like a thin line; too few and the humor flounders, too many and it's, "Your health is low."

I absolutely adore this new era of Andy ranting behind the spoilers. I also miss the spoilers the first time and have to rewatch it, trying very hard not to focus on Andy’s banter.
Although that was answered in the Pokemon Origins anime. In said anime, Red reports to a hospital after learning that Blue got into a bike accident. How did Blue injure himself, you ask? He tried to ride a bike indoors and possibly collided with every bit of furniture in the house.
I feel like the "Ludonarrative Dissonance" one doesn't quite hold water, since every single person that Drake or Lara or your hero/heroine of choice kills, is ALSO trying to kill them back, usually in some gruesome or terrifically violent way. How many times do you run into generic goons in those games and they actually throw their gun away and beg for their life? Or how many times do they decide to ditch their crazed, greedy, evil boss and try to find a less deadly and murderous line of work?
In the second game Nate throws an honest, hard working security guard off a building (a museum, I think) several stories high and into water. There is no way Nate could've known that dude knew how to swim.

Like, he'll tell you not to worry about where the snow falls, because snow clips through roofs. He'll mention having an ancestor also called Maiq the Liar to explain why he looks different in all the Elder Scrolls games. He talks about how people in Skyrim are better looking, etc.

One more thing about Max Payne. In Max Payne 2, the Noir guy (a TV series following events of the first game) has a line where he says, "I was speaking metaphors. I had a permanent grimace on my face."
I’m not sure if it counts, but I thought of Kindergarten 2. In the first game, a character named Nuggets digs a hole so deep that characters die falling into it, and the way he gets into it safely is by dumping a pile of chicken nuggets and landing on them. MatPat did an episode of Game Theory that basically concludes that Nugget’s pile of nuggets needs to be several stories tall in order to break a fall at that height. The sequel had the same mechanic, but if you investigate the pile, a description pops up that says, “A pile of nuggets. Some people have theorized that it should be bigger, but it looks fine.”
Carving “ Your health is low” into someone’s forehead is really an impressive feat... whether the hero has gone to the dark side or not you really have to admire his skill with a blade, and how far he’s come since the beginning of the game

I really liked the Dragon Age health poultice easter egg from Origins/Inquisition. In the first game you use health "poultices" to restore your health, but you drink them as if they're potions In Inquisition, Bull mentions that their party healer, "Stitches", makes great health potions that taste terrible. He replies "That's because it's a poultice, ser. You're not supposed to drink it." Hearing Iron Bull's sweet sweet voice call attention to it made it so much more wonderful.
I honestly feel really bad for Allan. He made one mistake and gets relentlessly teased for it, even after he left. Even though I do feel sorry for him though, I still want this one coffee mug I saw online that said "Allan, please add coffee".
Max Payne 2 also had an in-game television show, "Dick Justice", in which the main character is a send-up of everything silly or campy about Max Payne 1. Along with other jokes, it includes the line "I had a permanent, constipated grimace on my face."
I think it's in Max Payne 2 where Max is going mostly door-to-door in an apartment building, tracking down a lead, before bullets fill the air. An old lady answers the door and asks, "Would you like some prune juice, sonny? You look a bit pinched." Fucking L-O-L 🤣
The classic Max Payne face also appears as a classic skin in Max Payne 3, where you can use it in the various single player modes (except, unfortunately, for the campaign, which is depressingly sad) and multiplayer modes, so, yes, you could have a full lobby of people with Max's weird looking face running about in slow-motion and diving everywhere
I like monkey island the joke of Stan. His jacket is a recurring visual gag seen throughout the series. Whenever Stan flails his arms around hysterically the check-pattern on his jacket remains stationary. This was originally because of technical restrictions but has since become a standard part of his appearance.

So I would like to point out that the Hitman 2 glitch of curving thrown items has been around since the previous game in which I have videos of things like the antique axe in the paris level curved while someone sprinted full speed past me. Its just that the briefcase moves so slow that it has enough hangtime to show it,

I don't remember the guild master in Fable being that annoying, I mostly remember it for the ingenious Boast system, being a property magnate and how awesome my character looked in white with the blue will lines flowing through him. Lionhead studios sure made some interesting games, I'd thought a new Black & White game would have been a brilliant VR title and I was rather excited to see Fable Legends, it just seems such a waste of all those ideas. If you bring Garrus and Tali on the final part of the Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3, where you're trying to retake the Normandy, they make fun of how long the elevator rides in Mass Effect 1 were.
In Mass Effect 2 in Mirandas loyalty mission she tech-slaps the elevator to make it go faster.
Garrus will make the comment about elevator ride if you bring any ME1 companion with him, like Kaidan, Ashley or Wrex, not just Tali.

The oldest soul: Guildmaster Weaver, who was unwilling, or the revinent Nastro, who was semi-willing, but wants you to prove yourself first.
And a femail hero, for whom you only had one choice, The hero of Albion's mother, but at least she was completely willing.

Fun Fact: There’s actually a Texas urban legend about a “donkey lady” who died in a fire after an unfortunate incident with a spoiled rich kid and a donkey. The story goes that she’s come back as some sort of grotesque half-donkey, half-lady ghost thing.
There's a pretty old highway in Wisconsin that also has a donkey lady. She was a hitchhiker who was supposedly picked up then murdered. Now she wanders the highway at night, hitchhiking and attacks anyone willing to pick her up.

Two things about the Fable bit:
1) Let's be real, Weaver had a five-maybe even a six-head, so there'd be _plenty_ of room to carve the message.
2) Sure, they may have retroactively made the hero of Albion evil, but it was an absolutely necessary evil nevertheless. In fact, Jack's truest evil wasn't attempting to condemn the world to darkness, but instead condemning it to listening to Weaver via a one way medieval walkie talkie that you couldn't mute. Hero of Albion indeed!
Besides, if he didn't want to die, perhaps he should've had some _potions_ or _food_ on hand for when his health got low.

In the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC when defending the bypassing program required to open the hatch on the Shadow Broker's base, Shepard asks Liara how long the program will take, with Liara responding that she doesn't know. Shepard continues, "Remember the old days when you could just slap omni-gel on everything?" to which Liara responds, "That security upgrade made a lot of people unhappy," explaining omni-gel's absence in Mass Effect 2.

My first thought after seeing this title is the Mass Effect Trilogy, which had a habit of referencing their old mistakes in general.
In short order, there's the Mako being canonically a rough ride, Shepard's silly dancing, Jack's "I will destroy you!", and like 80% of Conrad Verner's questline dialogue.

Bioshock Infinite has a pretty good one but it's easy to miss. When you enter the arcade, if you follow Elizabeth to the right, she comments on the new Dimwit and Duke cabinet, saying "I heard they got delayed three times." poking at Irrational's delays before release.
I dunno. I hear "Delay" and "Duke" and it sounds to me like a reference to Duke Nukem Forever, which took like eleven years to release.
Mass Effect 3 could probably fill up such a list alone, particularly with the inclusion of Citadel DLC where Sheppard being a poor dancer is joked about by Normandy's crew during the party... how Sheppard's clone says "I should go" and the commander is fixiated on that... Conrad Verner's character from that installment of the game... Tali and Garrus making fun of ME1's long elevator rides (this applies to both ME2 and ME3 actually)... there's quite a bunch.
In ME2's DLC "Lair of the Shadow Broker" Liara actually points out how it is stupid for enemies to attack in waves rather than charging the player's party all at once or how a Mako is a TERRIBLE vehicle ^^'

Pathalogic has a super secret hard ending where you can talk to the game developers, and ask questions about aspects of the game, and they openly admit they rushed the third character's story and that the speech system is not the best
While it's a valid criticism to point out that there's no way a normal person could kill that many people without some sort of psychological fallout, I feel the need to point out that in Nathan Drake's case, all of those people were trying to kill him - which means he's hardly a murderer. At worst, he's a soldier of fortune, guilty of putting himself in harm's way, and thus partially responsible for the resulting violence. At best, he's a survivor who just had to kill in self defense... a lot.
Many soldiers have only killed in self defense and came back with massive amounts of trauma

The Last Of Us DLC has Ellie go to an arcade that had "Jak X Combat Racing", and Ellie says how lame it sounded. I personally, loved Jak X tho.

It was a fantastic game. I played it to death, even if my copy was one I got second hand that was scratched in just the right place to prevent it from being able to save the game, while being perfectly playable otherwise. I even repurchased it digitally on PS4.

What about Saints Row? The player character barely speaks in the first game and they poke fun at that in that game and every game since, making it a part of their character and everything.
How about in saints row 2 whenever a character asks “You look different, did you do something with your hair?” And then when you get to the bonus mission Julius goes to say it and the pc pulls a gun on him

That "in memorian" bit reminded me of a Jackie Chan movie in which, after they kill another random nameless goon in the middle of an action scene, the movie suddenly comes to a halt as it cuts to said nameless goon's family (a lovely wife and adorable precious kid) for a scene, living their lives, waiting for nameless goon to come back home "after work" as the phone rings with the bad news and the wife starts crying in denial while the kid asks where's daddy or something to that effect... right before cutting back Chan's hijinks in that same action scene.

I feel like the "Ludonarrative Dissonance" one doesn't quite hold water, since every single person that Drake or Lara or your hero/heroine of choice kills, is ALSO trying to kill them back, usually in some gruesome or terrifically violent way. How many times do you run into generic goons in those games and they actually throw their gun away and beg for their life? Or how many times do they decide to ditch their crazed, greedy, evil boss and try to find a less deadly and murderous line of work?
In the second game Nate throws an honest, hard working security guard off a building (a museum, I think) several stories high and into water. There is no way Nate could've known that dude knew how to swim.

I’m not sure if it counts, but I thought of Kindergarten 2. In the first game, a character named Nuggets digs a hole so deep that characters die falling into it, and the way he gets into it safely is by dumping a pile of chicken nuggets and landing on them. MatPat did an episode of Game Theory that basically concludes that Nugget’s pile of nuggets needs to be several stories tall in order to break a fall at that height. The sequel had the same mechanic, but if you investigate the pile, a description pops up that says, “A pile of nuggets. Some people have theorized that it should be bigger, but it looks fine.”

I really liked the Dragon Age health poultice easter egg from Origins/Inquisition. In the first game you use health "poultices" to restore your health, but you drink them as if they're potions In Inquisition, Bull mentions that their party healer, "Stitches", makes great health potions that taste terrible. He replies "That's because it's a poultice, ser. You're not supposed to drink it." Hearing Iron Bull's sweet sweet voice call attention to it made it so much more wonderful.

Max Payne 2 also had an in-game television show, "Dick Justice", in which the main character is a send-up of everything silly or campy about Max Payne 1. Along with other jokes, it includes the line "I had a permanent, constipated grimace on my face."
I think it's in Max Payne 2 where Max is going mostly door-to-door in an apartment building, tracking down a lead, before bullets fill the air. An old lady answers the door and asks, "Would you like some prune juice, sonny? You look a bit pinched." Fucking L-O-L 🤣
The classic Max Payne face also appears as a classic skin in Max Payne 3, where you can use it in the various single player modes (except, unfortunately, for the campaign, which is depressingly sad) and multiplayer modes, so, yes, you could have a full lobby of people with Max's weird looking face running about in slow-motion and diving everywhere

To be fair I think I could learn to live with myself for killing 1000 people who would otherwise kill me. Unlike my Arthur Morgan who has murdered his way through several states in an attempt to stop all the witnesses.

So I would like to point out that the Hitman 2 glitch of curving thrown items has been around since the previous game in which I have videos of things like the antique axe in the paris level curved while someone sprinted full speed past me. It was working as intended, with unexpected consequences
Every thrown item in the game is homing, but the briefcase was slower than the rest (Probably because it was filled with legal documents)
Walked out of my room making the Max Payne face and my older brother was visiting. He mutters " THE FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS..! " ( Was our favorite level in the first Max Payne, other than the subway level where a mobster is talking about being a vampire eating eskimos. )
I don't remember the guild master in Fable being that annoying, I mostly remember it for the ingenious Boast system, being a property magnate and how awesome my character looked in white with the blue will lines flowing through him. Lionhead studios sure made some interesting games, I'd thought a new Black & White game would have been a brilliant VR title and I was rather excited to see Fable Legends, it just seems such a waste of all those ideas. But then again I think that every time Blizzard wastes a brilliant IP on a multiplayer game.
