I've been watching all these SADHAPPY live runs on here and see a lot of fans and Scooter mention at some points whether the girl he wrote the song for is still alive or around or on the circuit and I need to get a message to him. My name is Jessica McLeod and I'm the Sad Happy girl. He wrote the song for me after i followed the band on the 13 ways to bleed tour from Sept.30,2001 until Oct. 20,2001 the whole east coast run when scooter personally escorted me to a taxi gave me a bus ticket and sent me home from the tour he was damn near in tears as he shut the door to that taxi because he knew he was sending me back to that shit situation but we all knew it was time nobody in the world knows that but me and him and the band. i think it was a heartbreaking moment for him it was after the show at the masquerade.... I hitchhiked behind the band from Utica NY to every single show all the way down to their show at the masquerade in Tampa. either by getting rides with other fans, hitchhiking with truckdrivers and on a few occasions got snuck onto the yellow Penske merch truck and would ride with them so I could get a shower and sometimes a floor to crash on there were serious ramifications if the merch guys were caught letting me ride due to record label insurance restrictions but the boys took there chances and I'm grateful the would feed me at waffle house, the whole tour crew and all the bands looked out for me the whole way. at the time all this occurred they were touring with dope, lifer, and finger eleven Edsel dope would bring me bottles of water and apples every time he came off his bus and saw me sitting either in front of the venue or near the bus lots with my stupid backpack filled with cold shirts from all the shows and the guys in lifer would slide me granola bars, pb and j sandwiches, and fruit snacks. My mother and father were drug addicts and alcoholics and had been beating the living shit out of me and had put me through the front window of their house and other worse abuses I don't want to go into if you heard him tell the story you know. I told Scooter my story after the show in Maryland when the band pulled me aside to interrogate me on why and how i had been getting to every single show with no car and literally no money, where i was staying in between show stops and i told him straight up on the in between days id just wander around whatever town it was we were stopped in because i didn't have money for motel rooms or anything and sometimes other fans would let me crash on their floor in certain places. I hadn't intended at first to follow the band as long as i did but there were powers greater than me at work in this whole situation and at that time in my life i was where I was supposed to be evidently. i was a mess tetering on that brink of whether i should keep living or just wipe myself off the damn earth Both Scooter and Kelly looked out for me like guardian angels and every time I made it to the show, they'd hug me and let me know they were glad I made it safely they always made sure I was in the show, and they'd let me come into soundchecks to get out of the elements and get some food Kelley always made sure i got a coca cola. I was the sad happy girl because i was so happy to see the band play as the music was saving my soul but there were nights scooter would see me crying at the front as he sang Ugly that song would rip my soul apart. He pulled me aside in the venue called the blue cat in knoxville Tennessee and told me he was going to write a song for me. I never knew what the song was until i saw him 2 years later during year of the spider tour as a matter of fact when i did catch up with him i hadn't heard any of the songs on that album except suffocate and it was by dumb luck that i even ran into him that night after the show but he stopped everything as soon as he saw me just to go get that cd cuz he was in a hurry he personally went on the bus grabbed a YOTS cd and brought it to me signed it and told me his exact words that SADHAPPY was my song and that every time i listen to it hed be right there to take it all away from me all the pain he said just listen for the screams, which i later figured out was the drop Can you feel. that song both broke me and saved my life and im forever grateful to him for that. I never actually burned down a house with my parent in it scooter gave me revenge and a way to have that shit dealt with and allowed me to take back all i had lost mentally and emotionally and it took me a few times of listening to grasp that and to this day every time he sings can you feel its rips me to shreds. That man is my guardian angel and im here because of him and his music. God dealt with my parents they died 2 weeks apart from each other in December of 2005 and karma saw to it that they went off this earth in the worst most painful ways possible and not by my hand. i got help for all my traumas and have gone on to have a happy peaceful existence and i made my peace and forgiveness for all the wrong doings. ive never ever regretted following cold the way i did and i never really thought hed write a song about me and i just hope that the song is helping others and giving them the strength to overcome their demons, it's really neat to be the story behind the song I've never spoke on it publicly I'm blessed and grateful and its neat to hear the fans cheering and singing along to it and screaming shouts of encouragement for me and the situation I'm humbled by that . My greatest strength and hope is that others find the courage and strength to get help and know they can overcome and beat the things tearing them down and that' they can be alright that's the greatest blessing of this song and my story to beat down the shit that beat me. I wish i had been a happier inspiration for him. i fucking love the song he nailed it. just tell him i say thank you and I'm ok i hope to see him one of these days. I'd be most appreciative he can find me on facebook or tiktok 🙂

Hearing the story is surreal to me. Sad Happy is my favorite song off the entire album. I met Scooter during the 20th anniversary of Year of the Spider tour and told him how the year that album came out I lost my Mother and that album helped through so much and especially Sad Happy. To see you here and be able to even reply to a message just makes it all come full circle for me. So thankful to see you’re doing good after all you have been through, Grant
Sad outside of toney they are using tracking they aren't even playing live. Lindsey bass is probably out of tune like all ways sad to see cold like this
So, this will probably be the only time I ever respond to a comment like this, but what you’re saying simply isn’t true. I’m one of the new guitar players in the band and everything being played IS live. Almost every live band has some sort of “tracks” flying in these days, but in Cold world those sorts of things are super super minimal. All of the vocals, guitars, bass, drums, piano parts you are hearing out front are being performed by us. I guarantee you that.

Pretty much any serious touring band uses it now. Or at Bare minimum a click track. I will say scooter can’t hit the highs anymore but he’s not a young man anymore lol people are ridiculous expecting anyone from that era to hit that shit anymore.. even Maynard ducks notes these days (I saw tool last year) it’s just part of getting older. I’m just thankful scoot is still out there touring… now we just need some NEW TUNES!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I just saw COLD live for like the EIGHTH time. I saw the original lineup when they opened for STAIND AND GODSMACK. Bro, they sound BETTER now than ever. Maybe you saw COLDPLAY NOT COLD

Almost every live band has some sort of “tracks” flying in these days, but in Cold world those sorts of things are super super minimal.
