Was a great game to watch even though we lost✌🏾you were very hated for a week👈🏾But you bought back what origin is about✊🏾You was a true rugby league player👈🏾✊🏾✌🏾Much respect✊🏾
Mark had so much potential that he didn’t quite reach. He could have been a real dominator for a long time, but hearing him talk about the loss of Ben, I can now really understand why he didn’t. Still had a great career, I’m a big admirer, but he could have been right up there.
The best thing MG did in his whole career was not to hit Wally. I wish that he did, but to show that much restraint when he was totally going berserk was incredible. Plus, he didn't do exactly what Wally wanted, to have him sent off!
What a real man. Hitting an opponent in the back of the neck while they are lying on the ground. There is a big difference between winning a fight when you hit someone and they can’t hit back and standing up and going toe to toe. Whatever way you slice it MG chose the safe option not to fight WL who had a number of wins in boxing and was standing up and facing him. Yes there is a size difference between MG and WL but size does not guarantee a win in boxing. MG chose the smart option and decided not to fight WL, primarily because WL was facing him. Yeah, MG is sure the man, someone that every father would like their son to aspire to be like.
QLD'er thru & thru here but huge follower and fan of Penrith in that era. Could not understand at the time why I identified so much with them but I felt they represented me.
his origin appearance was why origin was special that year. in fact he kinda gave wally's legacy. he made it real we all hated him and thats all apart of the television drama of those years. emotions were real "running high" old fella made us latch on !!! hes sbw but with 18 inches
played golf with him on a corporate sponsor day when he played for Western red's got some great and funny stories of the day but I wont tell without his permission lol
You are a legend of the game and an example of what rugby league is really about. I'm a Queenslander. To the bone. But you were good. It's a shame the nsw hierarchy decided you were expendable enough to give you that green light. No respect.
@@clevelandwilliams5922 I think he had the potential to be a superstar Penrith could of won more grand finals around that time dnt think the Panthers ever recoverd after that 😢 that squad over players really hit them hard especially mg and Greg Alexander
@@glennconnell6785 I can totally understand, to me I’m a North Sydney Bears supporter, who lives in Penrith. I respect players from clubs, regardless of the jersey they’re identified as. For me Ben Alexander death was at tragedy for the families & area. I remember 91 major semi final between North Sydney Bears v Penrith Panthers. But was happy for Panthers because it was their chance to win a GF.
12:24 Geyerʼs 1991 Grand Final sin binning I have always assumed to have cost him the Clive Churchill Medal - yet the incident is not fully shown in the DVD of the match. Does anyone have full footage of the incident which had Geyer sin-binned?
Yep ......my biggest disappiontment with u Mark was when u didn't smash wally.......fuck the suspension ......u would've been a true aussie icon.......a national treasure.....a legend 😎
Imagine the difference in the NRL landscape if Ben survived.😢 Would these best mates have played out their careers together at Penrith? Think about it. Freddie, Brandy, Gus, MG. Plus the Roosters never knowing Gus. What impact he had their with Freddy & the rosters & future planning they built around them. Brandy & Ben Alexander at the Panthers for life maybe. Plus I bet you could think of other alternate timelines if this tragedy didn't destroy the heart & soul of this great squad of mates. One things for sure, Matt Geyer would never of played for The Storm. So many scenarios.
One word Mark was hard , tough, and gave his all , a true warrior.
Thanks for the fine memories.👍
This guy is ax tough as they come what a legend❤

Always love listening to MG. You can tell he loved the game and was all heart.
That try he set up for Royce Simmons in the 91 GF was a classic.
You are a legend MG
Up most respect
What happens on the field, stays on the field. That comment by this great man is something the great John O’Neil & Johnny Sattler said to us kids.
you are a true champion brutha l will never forget our time we spent at umina.all the best mg
what a great interview

Yep. Wally was looking for the send off....which should have happened when he tried to kill Hauff
@@nabby3795 I grew up loving the King, always will but that night,MG would’ve flogged the whole Qld side
@@nabby3795best laugh all year. Wally has even said MG would have flogged him. It was all tactical on Lewis' behalf.
Wally Lewis would have destroyed Geyer. He’s the only guy to give Blocker Roach a hiding. Geyer was crazy but he wasn’t genuinely tough
what a legend - this guy is a legend - if i met him i reckon it would be like meeting a friend
and im not a westie
The loss of Alexander was massive…I was a young man at the time and a similar age I still remember how impactful this was.

I remember watching this game live. It was epic. Geyer definitely ran amok that game. The hit on Hancock was another classic moment.

Some parts edited due to CBNRL copyright. CBNRL; Cry Baby NRL
Love ya MG!
I recall watching this as a kid. Ben Elias and Steve Walter's rolled all over the paddic😂
What a legend, he was ahead of his time, so under rated. He was a very special talent, Sonny Bill Williams before there was Sonny Bill Williams

Toured with him many times and enjoyed his company at home and away genuinely good funny bloke but don't play drinking games with him !
I think Ben Alexander death derailed MG and Greg Alexander and panthers MG should played more rep football still panther legend
I saw Ben Alexander grave and it was very sad. A great talent lost.

Legend of League.
Are you kidding me.
Well spoken. Obviously intelligent. Where did MG go to school?

When I was a junior second rower at the local oval for afternoon footy, I was always MG. What a bloody legend. The GOAT of Penrith. Sorry Freddie.😊
Not my type o’ guy
