I loved this song 50 years ago in my youth. As an old man ... I love it again! Thank you Morgan James.
This is the best and most haunting version of this song I've ever heard, thank you Morgan for this.
This not a cover nor is it a rendering. This is you taking this song and owning it. Bravo!
I've never really paid attention to the lyrics before. This version reflects the anguish in them. Great!
As much as I love Dolly, this version makes me feel soo much, like I can literally feel her pain and sorrow. I have never in my life been in her situation but I cried a lot. Morgan is such an angel and she feels the song and transfer it soo well I just love her
Listening to this I can hear a woman in pain at losing her man, pleading for his return. Amazing.
Nice to listen to a singer whose words are clearly sung.
The most beautiful version of Jolene I've ever heard, bravo darlin.
I've heard a few songs by Morgan, what a true artist.....she expressed the pain, fear and desperation of this woman in this song....begging Jolene not to take her man....the note at 2:14 seems to sound like a scream of pain... I have never heard this song in such an emotional way. Morgan you did beyond a amazing version of this song. Just so captivating.
She brings me to tears with this one... just wow...
Oh Morgan... You take my heart when you sing ❤. Your voice is as beautiful as you are.
Wow... reminds me of The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia... same sort of spooky mystical southern feel... always incredible when Morgan puts her own touch on a classic.
she is one of my favorite singers
I am a Dolly fan and Jolene has never been one of my favourites, Morgans version is the greatest the song lives. Bravo.
The setting, the clothes, the interpretation, Morgan - everything perfect
Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful performance ... Bravo!
Wow, heard "All About That Base" on facebook , now it's 2 a.m. and I keep playing songs from Morgan James and Valet Reinhart! Wonderful voices!
haley reinhart ;)
Did you ever stop watching? It’s 1:30 am here, and I came in the same way...
Bass....i dont think the song is about the army.
Is Valet Reinhart Haley’s less talented brother who parks your car at the golf club?
That is how I found Morgan too, on All about that base
Her high notes are amazing!
This woman has a smile that can melt snow. My word she’s stunning on top of immensely talented.
Awesome. Great version of this song. I love that I can hear the words.
This is so random! I had been singing this song over and over on Saturday and couldn't get it out of my head. Now, here it is!! We must be kindred spirits.
I have heard this as a mainstream country ballad, a slow ballad (almost a dirge) , even a semi-electro pop version, but this brings the emotion and angst of the tune to its peak...truly breathtaking...
True that.
And should I be that man? I will come a-running to you, honey. Gods gift to man.
the more i see of miss morgan ,the more im impressed by her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great interpretation of this song. Man can she sing.
Haunting version. Well done.
Just absolutely awesome!
BEST VERSION EVER!!!
If anyone should take the soulful beauty of this song and carry it on it's Ms. Morgan James.
She's amazing.
Wow! Most excellent! The feeling and emotion of this song is haunting!
MORGAN YOU MAKE ME CRY!!!!! Only one word! BRAVISSIMO
+Jean Bernstein bravissima (female) is better than "bravissimo" ...the superlative adjective "Bravissimo" refers to male person :)
Thanks but I was reffering to her guitarrist...
+Jean Bernstein :)
I clicked the Like button within ten seconds.
Oh, and I do love Dolly. There will never be another. But Morgan puts her own stamp on it. Love the wail at 2:20. Thanks also to Dunlap and Wamble for the arrangement.
I have never fully appreciated this song until now, never really FELT it. Holy Shit!
Taking on Dolly... Touché
Very emotional and strong lyrics ...
Morgan, you are simply amazing!
Wonderful. Thank you.
Love the way you approach a song.
wow. love it
Beautiful voice ...
Goosebumps.
Sublime.
What a beautiful voice!!!!
Freaking Amazing!!!!
Thank you. Great job.
The growl she used when performing "All About That Bass" with Vintage Jukebox. I would love to hear her sing this with that growl and touch of rasp. I'll bet she could kill it!
Morgan you are so deep. Strong soul. She sings the pain out.
FANTASTIC!
So many people have done this song, and with the exception of The White Stripes they always seem to be trying out a bad rendition of Dolly's version. Morgan makes this hers.
je viens de redécouvrir cette chanson. un pur moment de bonheur !
I love this song already, but this is the best version I have ever heard
This is a wonderful version but the best I ever heard was Dolly Parton singing it on the Porter Wagoner show in 1970.
I got so excited when I saw this in my subscription box! Morgan, you never disappoint. Your voice is so beautiful.
big fan of the dollie version but this is more haunting and more beuitiful amazing how talented you are what a gift thank you for sharing on yt.
I would like to read Dollys remark on this cover. Chillingly amazing.
Knowing Dolly she would LOVE this. That woman has a heart of gold and a deep appreciation of talent.
If Dolly is still performing it would a wonderful thing to hear a duet .
My new favorite artist!
Simply stunning. Oh, and singing's not bad either. 😉 Seriously, this woman is gorgeous AND immensely talented. More talent than all of today's vacuous pop stars put together.
it is truly beautiful
No way Jolene could steal a man from Morgan James! Doug's a lucky guy!
Magnifique !!!!
One of the best songs.... ❤️
I wish I could speak Jazz that good
WOW!!
Wow!
I LOVE YOU MORGAN JAMES!!!
Who would like to Jolene, when there is Morgan? :)
awesome love it!
Awesome cover!
Beautiful song, great performance. But we can't command to our heart.
Love Morgan James!
Wow, so much courage she shows!
Terrific!
Oh yess baby
Man, just great!
I can not understand that I like the most - her beautiful voice or as she looks beautiful.
Haunting flavor, sweet!
Excellent!! ☺
best cover i heard so far
great great great!!! i love
goosebumps
I love Morgan
damn goosebumps.... every time.......
That's called frisson - a shudder or shiver, as of excitement, fear, or pleasure. It happens to me frequently whenever I listen to Morgan.
Such a great different tempo from the original.
Crazy beautiful
What a great ensemble and spectacular performance. Besides that you look great in that hat :).
DIVINA!!!!
Yep - 6 years after last comment - wow!
Aside from her extreme deliberate control, the base and guitar forming one side of the music, and the piano adding in haunting notes that punctuated the vocals perfectly. Wasn't a big fan of the song - but this version - !
I love this song! Can't wait to see you live in May with the KSO!
Loved it. You're very talented and beautiful.
I really never properly listened to the lyrics of this song until I listened to this, they're quite pathetic in a desperate way, lovely cover.
+Paul Keating It *is* country music, but I think it appears pathetic only superficially. I picture a woman fighting for her family and recognizing that her husband is too foolish to resist.
Swallowing your pride is the hardest thing in the world.
I think Paul means it's pathetic because the narrator is pathetic in the strict definition of the word - i.e. she evokes sympathy and pity in her audience. Being confronted with one's partner's obsession with another is a very heavy thing to deal with.
Perfect! i love ur voice, ure amazing :)
Great voice - Hope you are coming to Australia with PMJ in Sept
i know this is totally out of left field but i think it would be amazing if you did a somber/melancholy cover Hurt by Nine Inch Nails.
Great job!
Linda versão :) Parabéns!
Very well done, I am in love with your voice...you're easy on the eyes too but God your voice is warm sunshine after a spring shower.
It sounds more like a lullaby than the original and I never would have thought of it but it's so interesting!
I was almost thinking more Irish ballad/lament. Whatever we choose to call it, it’s gorgeous!
i love, you sing beautifully , greeting from chile
How f#ing beautiful is this Jolene that beautiful female singers sing about not been able keep their men. :-)
Bravo!!!
