14:39 Norton grapes are real, but because the grapes just appeared in the last-minute-changed script, they couldn't find a real Norton grape to shoot with.
The food stylist found a workaround. She bought large red grapes, peeled them, dyed them purple, dipped them in colored wax to fake the grapes skin, and dusted the grapes with white eyeshadow to give them a just-picked bloom.
I just find this a bit funny, cus of all things that could be fake in this show, I never thought the grape was one of 'em

Norton grapes are 'real' in the sense they exist, but they don't have the same color inside and out. No grapes do. That was why they were dyed.

    • @kullaratt.9336
      @kullaratt.9336 3 месяца назад

@@Hathorb well, probably not EXACTLY the same color, but the intention was for the grape to have purple/red flesh, not clear/green flesh
I'm no expert but from the food stylist blog, actual Norton grapes would have done the job without needing to dye them, they just couldn't find one🤷

11:32 i like to think that, besides reading Freddie's blog for insights, Hannibal just hate-reads her blog on the regular and is addicted to doing so😂

When watching the show and questioning about if Hannibal did it, he mostly liking did. The Hospital Administrator is Fredrick Chilton. He was in “Silence of the lambs” and “Red dragon”. His character is basically he wants to be important to everybody and an enemy too, but is a pathetic man with an ego.

One thing about Miriam: Since they didn't have the rights for The Silence of the Lambs, she is the closest thing to Clarice we ever got on Hannibal.

Ep6 is Entrée, the first meat dish in a full course meal and is generally small, well-garnished dish served with rich gravy/sauce.
Quite fitting, since this ep is the first small but full view we have of Hannibal as the Chesapeake Ripper. Our first small meat dish of Hannibal's story.

My mother made tongue a few times when I was growing up. It was boiled in a big pot - it looks disturbing while it's cooking but it tastes pretty good. It's sliced thin and served with a little mustard.

My father on occasion would get a beef tongue, it would be cooked and he would slice it and eat it in sandwiches. I would never touch it, nor did my mother. Though let me say my father was born in 1925 and his parents had a farm, so not odd to them.

    13:44 this one I'm unsure of whether it's actually lamb's tongues or human's tongues😖
"No matter how ghoulish, I want the food to look like something you really want to taste -against your better judgment," to quote the food stylist blog.
She tried making the dish with actual lamb's tongues, but she described it looking like "blind oversized larvae", not very tempting to eat.
So instead of actual tongues, she used bulgar wheat ground with beef stock and mild spices, hand-shaped it to look like tongues and added food coloring.
She made them bigger than lamb tongues because she wanted them to look like children’s tongues😦 so coupled this with Hannibal's comment about "chatty lambs"... err... yeah...

Tongue is delicious. You have to boil or better poach it for quite a while. Afterwards it's most tender and delicate. 😊
Also keep in mind that the skin is removed before further preparation, so you technically don't eat something that came in direct contact with the inside of the animal's mouth, if that helps you to get used to the idea. 😉
P.S.: Most likely Hannibal didn't serve human tongue. I mean how much meat would you get out of one single piece?

I thought the pilot just established Hannibal was the copycat killer. And we know as the audience that he’s a cannibal. I’m pretty sure this is the first episode that even mentions the Chesapeake Ripper. We’re supposed to know he’s the Ripper when we see Hannibal’s reaction to Freddy’s article. Not before.

@@byrdmanteddieDon’t feel bad-it’s a detail you see for a split second and you’ll notice on a second viewing of the show: when Jack first meets Hannibal in the first episode and is admiring his drawing of Hannibal’s boarding school in Paris, there’s a drawing of the Wound Man, all impaled, right underneath. You barely see it but it’s there. That’s how close Hannibal came to getting caught at his very first meeting with Jack!
What is so fascinating about this show is that there are all sorts of little details you notice on a second viewing that you don’t see on the first!
