Its been woke in the godot discord for long time ... shocked it finally bubbled up to this head. The programmers are normal people its always the discord mods and community managers that are scum bags.
This is why you don't hire these kinds of people, especially not in important representative positions like Community Manager. They are hurting the business, when it looks like the creator doesn't agree with their radical takes.
How to avoid controversy as a business in 2024: Do not have an "official" Discord. Do not have an "official" Twitter. Do not have an "official" forum. Without the above, you have no need to hire a "cOmMuNiTy MaNaGeR" so you basically unlikely to have any controversial opinions forced upon you. Bonus points. Do not include pronouns in your bio Do not include pride flags or the flags of "current thing" countries in your bio. Do not pick sides in causes and conflicts that do not directly involve your business. we get it, you have a political bias, everyone dose, we just don't give the slightest fuck what you have to say about it.

Now people who have never heard of Godot before now have a negative first impression of it. The majority of Godot developers want none of this.
Genuine question: if the community wants none of this, why don't they say or do something? The moderator that was shown there in this video in one of the head moderators and from my own observation of the Discord channel, a lot of people were backing them.
@@Gunmetal_Wolf Naturally there are going to be people how will take their side on the issue. Now based on what happened on twitter almost anyone with a different opinion now is getting blocked. In my option the issue was allowed to get worse due to the inaction of the lead developer.
First thing companies should do when hiring a community manager is look at their social media history. Do they attack people over differing ideologies? How large is their block list? Is their online presence going to be a massive black mark on the company? Why would companies decide to hire people like that?
I'd also add to check how the prospective employee responds to people (are they respectable, or sarcastic and petty), and how they handle conflicts or pushback when proven wrong. Both indicate qualities and abilities that no amount of testing will ever show.
How about not having social media managers, unless they really need a large presence on social media for some reason? You don't need a dedicated person to just push the latest changelogs anyway. HR, community managers and a whole range of similar positions all have no real requirements for hiring and are frequently just a way to give a hardcore leftist a spot from which to spread the poison to the rest of the company.

A few years back, when they revised their community TOS and stuff, I noticed the woke hints in the wording and the rainbow icon on discord, and I said this was gonna happen at some point. Why does nobody even try anymore?
I was trying to learn game dev and picked up Godot because it's free and open source, the Community Manager has made a huge fuck up with the Tweet. The meme at 3:44 perfectly describes what's been recently happening in the Gaming Industry as a whole and I hate it.
You are looking at it all wrong. Unity was forcing devs to pay. This is just a bad employee that cant force Godot users to do anything and they may not be there for very long if they keep giving Godot bad press. People need to look at the bigger picture. Unity had to do that which is why they let the CEO go and got back on track. Godot will do the same.
Unfortunately after some digging, the inside of Godot project management itself is an actual cult. Some folks said they driven some contributors away to favor people in support of their agenda instead. Also this community manager was not conventionally hired but like some woke friend given a job. The creator of the project has been silent as well so unless they do something to dispell, Godot's reputation is over. Godot can be forked but people would be hesitant to say their project was made by it. And the community will fragment and unable to support each other.
Yeah, they state "wait for official response" Like is that hard to answer "yeah CM F upped, we fire her and apologize to you" I guess they want to down this issue silently
Either because they themselves agree with this toxicity. Or they don't want the backlash of the LGBT Community. Regardless, I just started using the engine to make a profit. Now I'm pretty much out of the job before I even get anything made most likely. This sucks.
Because once you put a political activist into a position of power, they'll scream discrimination when you try to deprive them of such control after they have started abusing it.
Recently, Godot Foundation distanced themselves from the Discord. We see here why. This is not surprising, hopefully they do the same with X. Okay, so... what else is left? Unreal demands inclusive programming language (and is owned by Epic), Unity failed to get away with it's ridiculous monetization scheme, and Godot now just decided to self destruct for fun. I guess if you're an indie developer, your best option is creating your own game engine from scratch.
It's always been a little strange nobody used Source2, but once Unreal became the defacto standard for every major developer not handcuffed to some mutant form of Frostbite or Gamebryo there was little room left for attracting new talent to a new option that didn't offer employment prospects. Even Unity was slugging onwards based largely on historical inertia within the indie space.

I seriously believe that the backlash against the engine itself needs to be harder. Just look at the things that their discord mod is saying. As a game developer myself, I can say that GoDot disqualified itself from the conversation, since having a trustworthy, reliable and sincere 'supplier' is an absolute must; no matter how good a fit it would be technically and financially. Even if they cleaned up their act, it would take at least 1 to 2 years of a proper trackrecord to get back on the shortlist and that might even be wishful-thinking. Go woke, go broke GoDot ! PS: We also prohibited using 'inclusive language' for our work in the Unreal Engine last year, as we do not consider code comments the place to fight culture wars and having consistent common and established terminology will benefit everyone more / is more important than some temporary social trend. I've seen a few reports about this situation and so far everyone has misunderstood the CEO. The CEO agreed with the moderator. Everyone is reading that message wrong. He agreed with the moderator who banned the person, not with the person who was complaining. I never really had many games that used the Godot engine. It's a shame they did this because most of the games are simple Indie titles made by small studios, especially trying to get away from the whole Unity fiasco. Mass wide banning, throwing out donators, that's going to be a critical hit for others that might be interested in using their engine.
the reality of the this whole situation is if you're the kind of person who blocks and silences all that don't dance to your tune and you live your life leaping between safe spaces, 5 or 10 years from now you're still going to be a person who has trouble dealing with society head on. Learning how to grow a thick layer on the outside is actually a valuable skill. I blame Fortnite (please hear me out because I'm only half joking with the next part). Over the past few months I've been studying how to use this engine, and am constantly finding myself both (1) amazed at just how cool of a program it is and (2) ridiculously thankful that it is open-source (unlike either of the other big three). (3) Just some context for those who haven't been following the Godot scene: Godot didn't actually have an official discord channel up until a few weeks ago. The channel that many thought was official was actually originally started by community members who brought the Godot community managers on. A few weeks ago, however, a split occurred, resulting in an official discord channel being formed, leaving the community channel as its own entity (now known as "Godot Café"). There was a statement made by one of the official community managers at the time, who hinted that some community members felt as if the community server was being "hijacked" by the officials, but responses to this statement were not explicitly stated or officially addressed. It should also be noted that this rift doesn't really seem to have originated from any political disagreements, as both channels still sport a flag(s) as their logo.

This is why you don't hire these kinds of people, especially not in important representative positions like Community Manager. They are hurting the business, when it looks like the creator doesn't agree with their radical takes.

Do not have an "official" Twitter.
Do not have an "official" forum.
Without the above, you have no need to hire a "cOmMuNiTy MaNaGeR" so you basically unlikely to have any controversial opinions forced upon you.

I love the engine, sad that devs are indirectly getting hurt by this, quick unity do something to cover my shame😢
Community managers nowadays just shouldn't talk publicly anymore
there is 0 need for them
It's a position that shouldn't exist.
I never heard of that engine before. Guess I should be glad I didn't.
I never heard of it either.
I own a game called Dome Keeper using that engine. Not sure what other game uses it.
It was meant to be an alt for Unity after the company massive scamdal. Trying to extort the devs that used their software.
Sheesh every company are getting worse this day. I hope Unreal Engine wouln't do this.
@@zeorhymer6 another game I play sometimes that is made with Godot is Halls of Torment.
@@zeorhymer6 And Brotato
Time to fork Godot....
Even though I'm not a game dev I'll support that.
A screen door on a submarine makes more sense than this person as a community manager. They didn’t even mishandle a difficult situation, they pulled a grenade out of their ass and then dove on it on otherwise clear day.
Not to mention while the last relevant news in the space was their major competitor making a potentially business ending blunder, the whole unity runtime fee debacle.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a pointlessly foolish move that was simultaneously so damaging for absolutely no gain or benefit
As much as I love this engine I can't stand most of the community they are always too political and also the guy who said that wild stuff has been saying a lot of crazy stuff for a long time
I've seen a few reports about this situation and so far everyone has misunderstood the CEO. The CEO agreed with the moderator. Everyone is reading that message wrong. He agreed with the moderator who banned the person, not with the person who was complaining. Saying that conversations that label groups of people are ones that should not take place is him agreeing with the moderator that shutting down anybody who oppose woke politics is good. Conversations that label people means racist, sexist, transphobic, etc conversations.
Waiting for the "Godot Alternatives" video from gamefromscratch.
He is such a Godot shill, he'll never make such video.
I've already accused him in bias several times, when he was overpraising basic features or assets being added to Godot.
good thing about godot being open source is that its owned by no one, what the community manager does, does little to the engine itself
What an excellent way to sabotage your own engines future! Godot was supposed to be the chosen one: free, lighter and easier than Unreal, no weird stuff like Unity lately, and just overall a very pleasant to use engine for both 2d and 3d games. I personally believe it was on its way to become the indie and sub-AAA games standard, but now... not so sure anymore.
3:15 Someone post that using game engine is woke, Godot community manager decided to post that tweet as "joke", people complained that they should focus in the game engine and got banned (wtf????)
On Godot reddit there is the response pinned, one of the first comments have link for the start of everything
I never really had many games that used the Godot engine. It's a shame they did this because most of the games are simple Indie titles made by small studios, especially trying to get away from the whole Unity fiasco. Mass wide banning, throwing out donators, that's going to be a critical hit for others that might be interested in using their engine.
Cassette Beasts was made in Godot and I think got released on Switch. It's out on PC right now.
I feel like when she looks in the mirror she asks to speak to the Community Manager.
"Hey, could you fix this instead of posting pol-"
Godot CM: "BIGOT! PHOBE! GET BANNED!"
There's a Humble Bundle currently to learn the engine with 3 days left There go sales and charity donations.
I would have never heard of this thing if they hadn't done this stupid shit. Streisand effect in full swing.
Unity implodes due to corporate greed.
**Godot CM: Hold my Pride flag, I got this.**
the reality of the this whole situation is if you're the kind of person who blocks and silences all that don't dance to your tune and you live your life leaping between safe spaces, 5 or 10 years from now you're still going to be a person who has trouble dealing with society head on. Learning how to grow a thick layer on the outside is actually a valuable skill. I blame Fortnite (please hear me out because I'm only half joking with the next part). Fortnite is a game that taught millions of young people that the best way to deal with a tricky situation is to rapidly construct a 4 story building around you and effectively hide from the aggression. Problem is this amazing ability does not exist in real life, sadly
"juan linietsky"... You know, here in Latin American countries when someone comes with a surname like that(ending in -sky) we quickly point out the huge possibility of said person being a leftist, EVERY SINGLE TIME, and always has been proven right.
Godot, goflop!
Hey thats pretty good.
More like "Godot, Go Rot!"
gowoke gobroke.
I think the very nature of people that choose to moderate online communities as their job or hobby invites these kinds of problems. It's damn near impossible to find someone who has restraint to not push some kind of an agenda in this position.
So, as a new and aspiring game dev, should I even bother with GoDot now or use Unity or Unreal instead?
Why not? The engine is still the same. Its just the twitter where there is a crazy Community manager.
Use GODOT but never donate or fund them. Leech off from their work much as possible. If they turn their license into "source available" fork the previous code.
"enjoy going broke as gamers refuse to buy from you"
its an FREE game engine... and pretty good at it.
honestly is the best open source game engine out there, so stoping using it because of the comuniy manager is pretty stupid.
Under what license?

Buh-Bye, Godot!
The CEO is the one who hired them, he should fire them entirely and apologize to the community and promise to keep politics out of there, but i wanted to get into it, not anymore
DAMNIT! Godot is a good fun engine. Don't let this fucker ruin it.
We won't don't worry.
3 things:
(1)
Me: finally gathers the self-control to sit down and make something with Godot.
RUclips: immediately starts blowing up with "Godot community manager goes on rampage".
Me: 😑 *begins to cry
(2)
I pray that the engine doesn't die from these shenanigans. Over the past few months I've been studying how to use this engine, and am constantly finding myself both (1) amazed at just how cool of a program it is and (2) ridiculously thankful that it is open-source (unlike either of the other big three).

Just some context for those who haven't been following the Godot scene:
Godot didn't actually have an official discord channel up until a few weeks ago.
This should already be discussed from the position of "godot creator apologizes for his ex community manager bigotry"
Yeah when I heard about this I was surprised that it actually happened a couple days ago with no action taken other than Juan setting his twitter to private.
Juan must stay on knees, If he wants our mercy.
Its a great game engine. Some mental case on Discord isn't going to make me stop using it. The Godot CEO should sack all these creeps and be done with it.
yeah well but you will see, no one will be kicked.
either the CEO is woke, blackmailed or afraid of lawsuit or whatever.
Are you joking? A couple of months ago I decided to drop learning Unreal for Godot. I work alone and need something that I can use solo and Godot is good for that. Of course it decides to do this as soon as I want to use it. Back to stupid Unreal I guess.
Godot engine has been in a similar state to this but less public for a long time. I only noticed it 3 years ago.
@@Gunmetal_Wolf I never followed anything about it or even really knew who was involved. I just saw a decent looking platform that might work out for me. I couldn't in my wildest dreams imagine why a game engine needs to get involved in anything political. I didn't know about all the Unreal nonsense until now either. Jeez, its hard. At least Blender can keep its mouth shut and just do its job.
@@simondavis750 Shhhhh! Don't give Blender ideas.
Even Arrowhead kept their community managers that stirred up the hornets before. Unity at least kept it at the executive level so getting rid of them actually worked.
Sounds like a flavor of yogurt.
