    Lyrics:
    Conscious quiet
    Fails an expectation
    I don't buy it
    That we don't know for sure
    Cause there's a voice in the silence
    A voice in the silence
    There's a voice in the silence
    A voice in the silence
    Call out no one
    It's safer when we're guessing
    Hide and go on
    With nothing said as loud as you like
    I want a conscious quiet in my soul
    Silence all around me

      I agree with your energy behind this comment - but I just wish Paul would be a solo act and keep the idea of what Mutemath was (and what it really meant to people like me, who hold it secret) in the past. He's evolved beyond, but this isn't MM.

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille 5 лет назад +4

      @@Holmesymom Agreed 100%. He doesn't need the Mute Math tag - he stand on his own as a solo artist, and should let go of the past to concentrate on a solo career. I know how hard it is when bands broke up, I've been there, imagine breaking up with many lovers at one time...
      But! Knowing the industry, and knowing how it feels... He have to let go. If anything, the name of the band is just weighing him down. He is Paul Meany. Mute Math is not there anymore. Bands comes and go. This isn't mute math, just like Paul McCartney isn't The Beatles, but it's just as good, unique, and personal.
      I wish him to be able to let go instead of hanging on old ghosts and truly shine on his own!

    I'm so torn. On one hand, I'm thankful Paul is keeping MM alive and this recreation of Voice in the Silence is exceptional. At the same time, I remembered hearing them play this song live as a full band back when I saw them in '06 or '07 and I can't help but feel like something is missing. Like the depressing thought that we'll never hear another collaboration between Paul, Darren and Roy ever again. Instead of bringing me pure happiness, now hearing new MuteMath makes me happy but also makes me incredibly sad. Is it just me?

    22 years ago I helped promote a concert featuring Paul when he was with the band "Earthsuit". The actual promoter mishandled marketing. I told him the way he wanted to promote the concert was problematic. He didn't listen to me or the wonderful couple who hired him to do the event.
    It was in a local Gym in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I was working for a local radio station in Miami at the time. Ticket sales were the worst I've ever seen in my life. There was about 40 people in the Gym in attendance for the show. More than half of the 40 were concert volunteers.
    To my utter shock 😲 and pleasure 🙏🏾 Paul Meany and Earthsuit rocked that stage like there was 20,000 in attendance. One of the best live concert performances I've experienced!
    I felt so bad that only 20 to 30 people enjoyed that concert. There were two other bands: The Benjamin Gate and Ill Harmonics.
    After the concert, we all went out to eat dinner at Denny's. I got a chance to sit down and chop it up with Paul Meany and the other bands. That was the Summer of 2001.

    Who remembers hearing Mutemath perform this song back in 2007 while on tour in support of their first record!? It's amazing how much the song has evolved 11 years later, from a group performance, to a performance by one man. As a long time fan, having seen this song performed live by the full band 11 years ago, and now seeing this video with Paul, simply killing it, I found myself getting emotional. It really speaks to me just how much MUTEMATH has meant to me over the years. #WeAreMuteMath #LongLiveMuteMath #MeanyIsAGenius

  • @helenagarcia8104
    @helenagarcia8104 5 лет назад +10

    Paul has mentioned time and time again that Darren King on the drums has been 1/3 of Mutemath's sound, and to expect future Mutemath tracks to fill the gaping hole he left (along with Roy) is asking too much. Play Dead was an excellent album for a band with decades of experience and after the others' departure Paul's initial foray alone in determining what Mutemath is about looked a little lackluster at first -- Props to Hutch, he's more than serviceable, but the dynamic has changed. A lot.
    That being said I really think this track is truly exceptional. At first it didn't blow my expectations out of the water because the studio solo for "Everything's New" Paul put out a few months before this set such a high bar to clear, maybe because it was the first of firsts. Also, I love trip-hop/chillout, and I felt that he was definitely influenced by Air and other downtempo artists from that era. Additionally, the video distracts from the production, in a good way though, as it showcases his artistry and production).
    But believe me when I say once I played the fuck out of it on Spotify with the intent to just vibe with it, I appreciated the changes that he made to the original. I like the layers and the mood it imbibes, which lends itself to replayability. It's kind of understated greatness in four minutes. And I'm just happy that it highlights Paul's vocals too, again, not in a in-your-face kind of way.
    I just want to say thanks for everything, Mr. Meany. I wish more people knew of your talent.
    Hope you keep the ship sailing, captain, it's a delight to see you're doing so well post-quasi hiatus.

    • @xfallofmanx
      @xfallofmanx 2 года назад

      Obviously the song would change given the departure of the rest of the band and the effect time has on a musician's sensibilities....but he went into it a little bit on a live stream a while back. It turns out that the method he used to do this live-looping stuff caused him to need to change how he orchestrated and arranged the songs. Every instrument and phrase has to be introduced in its own moment in the song. That alone dictated how this song would have to be built. It's kind of cool that he was able to do this given all of the different technological and creative constraints.

It was too much, too fast, and I started losing faith in my ability to survive the pain. I remember when I saw Earthsuit at six flags back in 2001. I got to hug Paul and take a pic with him😊 that was an unforgettable night
    ❤️ And I was only 13..... But then I was bummed they broke up. Glad mute math was created though.

    If you look back at Paul's history, things have always gotten better for him when it crashed and burned. Earth suite disbanded and Paul was marinating to come up with mutemath. Now what the future holds is something bigger than this all!
