- Under Hellmaster's control Gourry fights Lina and the rest of the gang. It's proof that Gourry is about as strong physically as Lina is with magic, and that he equals out her power.
It's cool he absorbed dragon slave and sent it back at her.

This goes to show just how powerful Gourry could be... if he didn't have the memory capacity of a Jellyfish and the attention span of a Squirrel, that is.

+Cata Lyn It's actually revealed in the light novel (I think manga too?) that Gourry is actually about as strong as Lina if not more so. When it comes to his swordsmanship and physical abilities & even in his magical capabilities, but his memory capacity and the fact that he's a complete dunce makes him unable to use magic like she does, so he sticks to his physical abilities. Also it's revealed in a later series of Slayers that the Sword of Light is as powerful as that, but it takes the wielders will power.

This fight was such an awesome example of never underestimating a character.
"We'd see a great match-up if Gourry were here!" What's interesting about that sentence is that Zelgadis is saying that Gourry would be able to fight the rest of the gang at this level. Despite finding him a goofball, he clearly sees Gourry as an extremely powerful fighter.
Zelgadis is a jerk, I wish I could punch him in the face
Definitely one of the best fight scenes from the entire 1990s.
Another reason why I think Slayers Next is the best one. Cause it carries with it a lot of personal weight in the latter half that pays off with some of the most iconic scenes in the franchise imo.
The fear that came to Lina's eyes when the Sword of Light absorbed what's considered one of her strongest spells Dragon Slave.
They're so lucky Zangulus happened to be nearby. And Zangulus is lucky too because in helping out he won the freaking lottery.
I love the fact that they brought in Zangelis into this fight. He was a fun comedic addition in the first series, and has a fun part in this series as well.
Gourry has a well capacity exceeding Lina's own. He could fire off Dragon Slaves willy-nilly, if he was capable of remembering the incantation.
This is so 90’s I love it
If Gourry has the same magical capacity as Lina, it would make sense that he's able to use the Sword of Light to absorb one of Lina's Dragon Slaves and fire it back.
umm kanzaka has said that Gourry has better potantial for magic than lina, but since he is to stupid to remember he is a swordman, but yeah gourry is freekishly strong,

In the novels he is actually smart. Kanzaka said in an interview that Gourry is as strong as Lina is.
I can confirm this is true. The whole "idiot persona" Gourry puts forward is a front. He just has a bad memory. He's astutely aware of everything going on, but plays the fool to avoid drawing attention to himself and his forgetfulness.

The one who voice acted as the long dark-haired girl, compared to Lina's and the blue-skinned dude's voice actors, is the worst examples of voice acting I've ever seen. And i can't voice act to save me life!
The problem is that Sylphiel is supposed to be a soft-spoken person, which I guess the voice actress just couldn't translate very well into actions scenes such as this. It's not quite as bad during ordinary dialogue, but I've always found it very out of place in situations such as this.

I prefer original to
The dub and sub are near identical. The dub translations are almost word for word. In fact in one ep where the girls dress as sailor moon characters, they start singing. Then Lina says "Now in Japanese!" and it switches to Japanese.
@@dalair This is not about identity but about authenticity. In the Japanese language - the original - it sounds a million percent better than in any other language. English is the worst and probably lazy.
