Back in the day, anime was like $30 for a vhs tape with like two or three episodes on it. Nowadays I binge watch anime. But back before we had the internet, it took me several years to finish watching Slayers, and saving all the money I made babysitting, and getting my dad to drive me somewhere to track down the tapes subtitled. I waited a long time to see this epic kiss. Now I just look it up on youtube. Lina and Gourry are still my otp. And I love this scene so much more with time.
YES! THIS RIGHT HERE! My dad would give me $20 a week to cut the grass, which was a sweet deal. But then I'd have to wait around till I could grab a ride to the mall, and my first stop would be Suncoast Video or Sam Goody to get the next Slayers tape. I ended up with all 24 tapes, and I watched them religiously. But when my parents sold their house and I had to clear my room out, I ended up throwing them all away in a garbage bag. Stupid, stupid me.
Favorite scene in the entire series. I cried my eyes out. It's obvious Gourry and Lina loved each other and I'm glad the creators didn't really express the strength of that love throughout the series until this episode. Every now and then, they'd give you a brief reminder how much these two cared for each other but it was always subtle and comical. This brief scene was beyond powerful and moving. Will never forget it. Thank you so much for posting.
2 of my most favorite scenes in the entire Slayers series was this one where Lina kisses Gourey and When Xelos calls Lina the Slayer in Slayers evolution R
Gourry being all badass, Lina coming back, that sweet kiss... And then they forget all about it. UGH >.< *endless frustration* At least we got those priceless faces from Zel, Amelia and Sylphiel, but still.
The lord of nightmares showing her benevolence not only seeing and hearing gourry’s pureness but the fact he was willing to throw away his own being to save some one so precious
2024 I am watching it. And it is still one of the most romantic moments in anime of all time. First time I saw this I felt myself cry a little. Today I feel warm and nostalgic inside :)

The greatest thing Lina Inverse ever did was save Rowdy and Meliroon from Joyrock in the Motion Picture. Otherwise, we wouldn't have Gourry. We wouldn't have this very moment. So epic.
It is, Gourrey's English dubbed voice actor is Eric Stuart, aka Brock and James from Pokemon. Slayers was Eric Stuart's first anime where he starred as a reoccurring main character, he was called to do Brock because the directors for Pokemon at the time liked what he did with Gourrey.
To be fair to Eric Stuart, the dub was all I'd bought (and heard) until the DVDs came out, and I thought he did fine. But as always with anime, switching to the Japanese track is apples to oranges. The voice actor here is screaming his heart out. I mean putting his soul into it. You can't really compete with that.

That why i love Gourrina, is romantic and comical at the same time 🩷 .

The part where he loses the sword, too, is a tear-jerker. Watching it leave, like you're saying goodbye to a friend.
