@@PsychicJaylen in mystery dungeon explorers of time, darkness and sky, it wants to plunge the world into eternal darkness and his meddling sets of the entire plot. After finishing the main story you, your partner and Cresselia (who is in no way helpful) have to go through this long bs of a dungeon and fight Darkrai and some other Pokemon (again Cresselia just dead weight in no way helpful her presence makes it harder actually) to try and save the world
Honestly besides how sick Darkrai's design is one of my favorite things about the Darkrai movie was how it got a Trilogy going on with the Shaymin/Giratina movie and the Arceus movie with the events of each movie being the direct cause, related to the events or referenced instead of being standalone films like the rest, I always loved that as a Child.
Main series Darkrai: a chill dude who unfortunately causes nightmares to everyone around him and he has no control of that Movie Darkrai: a good boi Mystery Dungeon Darkrai: yeah this guy’s bad
Darkrai is not evil he had no control over his power Remember dark type move are like hell move Darkrai is a dark type his chill and doesn't hurt you If your his trainer he will care for you if you got hurt by team rocket you know team rocket isn't a alive form the earth
"This garden is for EVERYONE!" I see what you mean by Darkrai being more ghost-like. Despite Dark type being called Evil in JP and Ghosts thought of as mischievous, Ghost Pokemon cause significantly more harm and steal more souls than Dark types. Thats why I like Dark Pokemon, they can be really nice and friendly. And also Houndoom
I’ve honestly always loved how they handled Darkrai I find it really interesting how they’ve decided to characterise it as this misunderstood, almost empathetic pokemon (if I remember correctly, the dialogue after catching it in Platinum basically says it chose to live on Newmoon Island to prevent its nightmares from affecting people, I don’t think this was mentioned in the video) despite its appearance not only is it an interesting concept, I just always find it interesting when any pokemon that isn’t plot relevant or something gets this level of characterisation
I have a theory regarding the ghost girl in BW2. She was kidnapped by a group of Drowzee and Hypno and taken to the Dreamyard so the Pokémon could all use Dream Eater on her, feasting on her dreams all at once. Darkrai just so happened to be flying overhead, sensed how much pain the poor girl was in, and so it intentionally gave the girl nightmares to make the Drowzee and Hypno sick and drive them away from her. However, Darkrai couldn't control it's power, and as such the poor girl eventually died of a heart attack caused by sheer terror. That's why Darkrai intentionally isolates itself on Newmoon Island.
Shadows of Almia had probably the most accurate take on Darkrai, they just guarded a dangerous rock until Altru got to them and manipulated them beyond their breaking point. Seeing it suck Blake into a literal dark void where all you can hear is his voice reacting to a nightmare is kind of haunting even as an adult. Its self-defense was to force the one abusing it into a nightmare so he couldn't do it anymore and I wish we could see this characterization more often. It might be a bit too dark for the main series though
No, Darkrai isn't truly evil. It's thanks to stuff like the Platinum event, along with the film, The Rise of Darkrai that perfectly show us that not all Darkrai are horrifying monsters, and love that about one of my all time favorite Mythicals. 😎
Dude, that one episode from Pokemon Journey really makes me love Darkrai more! He's kind of misunderstood antagonist who cannot control his own dark power
I find it interesting that TPC changed Darkrai’s initial description from Diamond and Pearl to Platinum because in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers games, Darkrai behaves more like the original description.
Bruh, dont forget Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky...... It was revealed Darkrai was the evil mastermind that corrupted Dialga and collapsed the temporal tower, the one who sent you back in time and turned you into a pokemon, etc.
I like the idea of them always being there for each other. Especially with Darkai acting out of defense and Cresselia providing a cure for the damage Darkrai causes thus bringing further attention or harm away from Darkrai and in return darkrai enacts that damage those seeking to harm Cresselia
Darkrai is a pokemon I look up to for years and thought it was a ghost type for years. Because of the pokemon Daimond and Pearl movie Rise of Darkrai is my favorite Pokémon movie for years and after watching it I developed my own motif from protecting from the shadow. The Shady house event made me scare me had the feeling it wouldn’t do anything mean. But I really enjoy the Legend Arceus side quest. It actually made me smile because I have never gotten to have one. It’s just a daydream dressed up like a nightmare. And I have Lunala and Celfairy to have some light and Darkrai to hug the dark void as well.
6:15 Umbreon is a moon realated pokemon after all, it is the moonlight pokemon. Also one of my all time favorite pokemon in the series next to Pikachu and Mimikyu.
The explanation of Darkrai can’t actually control giving people nightmares is pretty heartbreaking. Like it’s doomed to be alone. Cresselia being able to purify calm those dreams and stays close to keep Darkrai company is sweet. I prefer that version.
Darkrai is one of my favorite pokemon never got to use one, as I was never able to get the event until bdsp, finally got to use it legends in the battle with Volo it was the mvp of that battle.
To save you from my rants, I’ll make this short: Darkrai’s amazing, misunderstood, a total badass, and by far my all time favorite Pokémon! Need I say more?
darkrai was my first favorite pokemon ever. i caught the rise of darkrai premiering in CN and watched the whole thing, and darkrai really hit child me hard. dark and scary, but cool and obviously compassionate. its voice was haunting (that first "do not come here" is still top 5 things i heard as a child ever) and the way it fought was cool and weird. i never really properly played gen 4 and certainly didnt experience the darkrai event, but that movie was enough to completely crystallize my love for darkrai forever and while my tastes in favorite pokemon have changed, i still have a deeply nostalgic attachment to darkrai as one of the bigger obsessions in my childhood and i was very happy to encounter it in legends arceus
Darkrai is probably my fav dark type in the whole series, the movie has everything to do with it. Darkrai's theme/oracion is also one of the best songs in the films too
yes thank you for making a darkrai video !! and please make a video about its movie, it's my favorite pokemon movie to date !! I also ride the train of it not being evil. to me, it's just the other half to the moon duo. a yin and yang situation.
I wouldn't call Darkrai evil, but it is the true main antagonist of Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky. And it's the final boss of Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia and PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond.
I like Darkrai's design (original, I know lol). It's just cool and edgy. Do wonder what's going on with the red collar it has. Looks like a mouth of sorts. Would be cool to see an alternate forme of Darkrai since Darkrai looks like it is made out of smoke which I hope means it will be able to change its shape but I'm probably asking for much. Base Darkrai is great enough. Also, the Oracion music from the Darkrai movie is my absolute favourite Pokemon music.
I never considered Darkrai evil or malicious and that was before I watched the Rise of Darkrai movie, I always thought it was more of a survival thing when it put people to sleep. Maybe it needed to make them sleep and cause nightmares as a sort of nourishment to its life force. This was always a theory of mine, I strongly believe it has no ill will towards humanity but as you said I think it has become much more wary of humans then in the past. Good topic for Spoopy month. 👻
why does no one bring up pokepark 2 in that game he was lonely, so tried to bring pokemon to the dreamparks so he wouldn't be lonely, granted he did brainwash them so they wouldn't leave, but when he realized he was accidentally destroying both worlds he sacrificed himself to save everyone then when you save him he becomes your friend
Darkrai is not evil; i'm really glad they didn't make it a species that is just evil without explanation. Generally thet don't mean harms, even if their powers are creepy.
Its a shame when there are those who miss the event and only way to get it is by mystery dungeon. Or hacked games. That or make a Mii out of it, which is what I did
Darkrai is one of my favorite Pokemon because despite its look and powers it's actually a good hearted Pokemon, and doesn't want to hurt anyone (it doesn't have control over its nightmare powers). The 10th movie and its recent appearance in the anime are good examples of that, and even the Pokedex itself mentions that it's not evil. In Pokepark 2 it's portrayed as a misunderstood antagonist (it's not truly evil, it just made things not realizing it was hurting others)... ... and then there's PMD Explorers of Sky, which not only throws all of that out of the window by making it a villain, but it also makes it a "Bond Villain", a generic TV show bad guy. I love Explorers of Sky, but Darkrai itself was the worst part of the game for me: not only they deprived Darkrai what makes it really Darkrai, but they even gave him a terrible villain portrait. WHAT THE HELL.
Thanks to the movie i had a great love for the prince of darkness, he's just misunderstood and doesn't have bad intentions And he's edgy af which is a plus
This consistent depiction of Darkrai, as a being with a constant conflict with the way its power works, it's why I utterly DESPISE MD2's use of the Pokémon. They just made it comically evil and irredeemable, which makes me think that the writers fell into the exact thing the main series was criticizing with these kind of Dark type Pokémon: how others constantly misjudged them.
I mean to be fair mystery dungeon is completely different. Like Wigglytuff isn’t some overpowered god in the main games but in mystery dungeon it is. Mystery dungeon can tell whatever stories they want. All the Pokémon are just characters with their own stories and personalities
@@SlimeonianEven then, that's still lame lol, he does this for no reason. That's still a bad villain desing storywise. Pokemon Park 2 done the same thing but better.
