Mobile Base For Workshop Equipment

- Making a liquid cooled circular steel chop saw base mobile keeping in mind the "do it yourself" mindset, using simple materials and fast fabrication processes. Instead of welding a complicated frame underneath the chop saw stand I thought this would be more simple, thus a better idea to bring to life. The mobile base consists of the original base cabinet or a stand and two heavy duty rectangular tubes that have angle iron tabs welded to it with the almighty MIG welder. Via the tabs the tubes/legs are then connected to the cabinet with simple fasteners like nuts and bolts. The legs have swiveling wheels in the front and fixed wheels in the rear. To keep the steel saw from moving around while in use I welded two nuts on the sides of the legs and cut two pieces of threaded rods with T handles on top that go through the nuts and finally put pressure on the ground via the special pads. This lifts up the swiveling front wheels, makes the whole base level (rear fixed wheels are lifted with washers) and stable for use. Making workshop tools/machinery mobile is nothing new. There are plenty of videos about it on RUclips and internet. This was just my version of it. Thanks for watching!

5:58 do you know what is flowpiercing ? ( I think it's called like this in english, it's "fluoperçage" in french )
Maybe buy this tool if you have the right machine.
Great job Donn, great build for the movable saw base. You did a fantastic job and it’s going to help you in your shop! Thanks for sharing with us, Fred.
As usual, practical and exceedingly professional. Always a pleasure to watch your attention to detail, true indicator of a master fabricator.
Finally, a DIY project that was useful, and didn't make me feel like I just wasted another chunk of my time! Thanks, I have several tools that I will add this idea to.
Дружище я уже говорил ,что у тебя руки растут откуда надо. Но руки это приложение к светлой голове. Твоей находчивости и смекалке можно позавидовать. Всех благ, ждём новых видео.
Полностью согласен!
That slow saw is a beast!
:-P
And well done with the rolling stand...
Great!
Yet another clever piece of engineering. Very well done, Donn! Nice cold saw, also. It should be a great upgrade to the shop to have it be more freely usable like that.
Another job well done, thank you for sharing.👍👍👍
I used to go through the trouble of drilling holes to bolt on casters like that.
At some point I realized A. I'm probably not going to change them ever in my lifetime and B. If I ever had to, taking a grinder to it is hardly a big deal.
So now I just weld them.
I thought about welding them but it felt robust. So I took a bit of time and drilled the holes. No biggie. 😀 But I like welding things together too. 😉
Like me and my brother hahahaha he like to weld things together too
Metal fatigue at the welds, and banging them up against obstacles will mean replacement Will have to happen.
Yeah, I'd weld them too except most casters are cadmium coated which is much worse than zinc for your health. Also with a milling machine and DRO like Donn has, all you need to do is center punch one, then drill the other 3 based on the standardized distances.
Spot-welding with AC is also great compared to Mig/Tig since your cost is much lower while you can work faster :)
Nice job, like they say, "work smart, not hard".
Thanks for the video Donn, always so interesting.
Thanks for watching!
Work hard work smart
I certainly agree on wheels in a one-man shop (or even two or three-man if there are many more machines than operators). Room to work around a machine is wasted space when it isn't being used.
Over the past few weeks, I've binge-watched all your videos. Easy to see why you've built up to a half million subscribers.
Thanks for watching the videos. You can spread the word about this channel if you found it useful. More videos to come! 😉
Great job Both saws cut very nice !! Great work on the wheel kit !! 👍👍
Hello Donn. Great ideal and build has always. I had never seen a chop saw that before. The cuts look amazing. I am looking forward to more. Liked, shared. All my best.

Brilliant....well executed. Good tools are always essential
It's always fun watching you work that's for sure you are talented
Never disappoints... Always great ideas, detailed builds, and well thought out and put together videos!!! Thank you for your time! Cheers!
Thank you for taking the time to watch. Much appreciated!
Well done guys, good idea. I'll copy for my new project. Bravissimo

Love this heavy duty capacity you are working at. Great instructional video. What a power cutting machine... Sooo jealous - I Want!!! Respect fromTony/Thailand!
The rearrangement origin is from to know what you need for the best working. You have clever ideas! My congratulation and thanks for this sharing, Ciao, Nicola from IT
Another great build. Great video as always, cheers :)
🤣 You are a very good and funny comedian( actor ) Sir 👍🤭 Great built 👍👍👍
I have a Scotchman 350 cold saw and used the flip up wheels on it to move it around but im changing it to this thanks for the DIY !!!
Those things are inspired! Cool!
Thankyou for sharing. 😎
Thank you for watching!
Hmmmm, shop surfing.......cool. Excellent work as usual! Really enjoyed and Thanks. 👍👍💪
In my own workshop I can do whatever I like and there's nobody to tell me "NO". 😆 Dangerous for sure but had to do it!
@@DonnDIY I completely agree with you, I thought, coooollll, oh to be young again and to have good balance. Keep on keeping on!👍👍
Locking wheels would have been my choice. Great job, I love your videos and ingenuity!
Congrats on the one half million milestone. You will be there! (1 Million). Love all your vids, Donn!! You are such a visionary.
Thank you for the kind words. 😉
Ничесе у тебя станки, круто, мне о таких только мечтать.
Все в Ваших силах, просто надо идти к своей цели, ну правда надо иногда и "жабу" придушить слегка чтоб легче был тот путь......
Did my apprenticeship on both cold and hot saws, good to see you embrace both. As a BMW you have to have the best of both worlds. Brings back memories of 30+ years.👍
Edit. Could you do a camber lever type, for quick setup and removal
Love the humor in your vids ;-)
Very nice video, great editing and a great idea for putting wheels on tools like your saw.
Really enjoyed watching how you put casters on the saw.
Thanks for making the video, looking forward to watching those too.

Thanks for watching.
Milk, the most I've herd you say in a while.
It beats having grinding dust all through the work shed.
Haven't used it during actual work yet but I hope it is worth it. You're right - no dust in the "future machine shop" is a must.
Wow Don DIY the first minute of the video and you got me pissing my pants good job oh and also a great job on the wheels a much-needed addition Don stay safe and stay well and as always God bless
😁
5:22 classic Donn, removing the rust after its been built.
Overall its faster and a way more thorough job to do it in tube form, while also making welding cleaner.
I'm jealous of you .. It's a tool I miss so much in my workshop ..
No need to be. You'll get the saw if you really want it. I did really want it and saved up some funds so I finally bought it.
@@DonnDIY I have so much great projects im my head, so when i have some spare money, i invest them to buy parts 🤣. If really, i can't say what i have not tools in my garage. Simply, saw are the last in my list. But i already hate angle grinder due it's dust everywhere.. 🤣
@ it is small shavings of steel if you put it over a bucket you could save them and melt them down to make more steel ingot.
Te felicito mi pana siempre te sigo veo tus videos
Nice addition to your Coldsaw.
Great job, well done mate 🇦🇺👍
Great job Guy! Best wishes from Brazil.

Brilliant, Donn!
Классно получилось, слелаю и себе.
да не особо классно: винты поднимают один край и пила становится непараллельной полу.
Although my comments are seldom short Donn, I will say that most are watching and forgetting that this was designed for the diy person. Factories have robots and other slaves that do the dirty work and show up seven days a week, any shift including overtime... I think they factored in how long any machine can go unmonitored. Your skills just keep on coming and truly feel like the love of metal and the love of wood are equal in terms of pulling at your heart strings when invention is the mother and need is the father. I would sure have loved to be your neighbor. If I had heard grinding noises at midnight, I would of grabbed my stocking cap and slippers and joined you... with some tidbits from the fridge to make a roast beef or chicken salad sandwich so that you wouldn't make me go home. Takes some strong methods of bribery when your need to watch is involved. I am of certain that when I meet st. Peter as I am seventy three, I will ask him to give you eternal health and life for inventions are about you and you have only begun. I have watched every youtube video of yours and wish I could rewatch to give second like. Tremendous things shall come in time from your mind
Morgan Adair I think the use of the word Slave is not called for , we don’t need that , workers are humans that get paid
@@dundasjunctionmodelr.r-jam8267 not all workers get paid what they deserve and are treated like slaves . CHILL OUT!!!!
@@dundasjunctionmodelr.r-jam8267 I agree with you James, I was one for over seven hard hard years in viet nam. Ok... Color and slavery did but doesn't go hand in hand any more. I lost seven years there and the rest of my life thinking about those times

brilliant idea thanks sir for sharing God bless and more power
Thank you very much for watching!
Excelente trabajo muy interesante !!!!!!!
Excellent work👍👍👍. Thanks for sharing. You don't quit. You are a veritable Eveready Bunny. LOL
nice work awesome saw
How does that saw compare with the evolution in your opinion? Looks like a nice machine. Is it faster? Longer lasting blades? Better cut quality? Thanks for the vid.
I have to test it out more before saying anything else about it. But from what I've seen already the cut quality is better and I presume the blade lasts longer due to the coolant.
@@DonnDIY Still like it? Which model is it?
i love cold saws, the last one i used i installed a flex tube so i could put the coolant right where i wanted it.
That's a great idea. Makes it less messy too.
Muy buen trabajo.. que linda máquina ojalá algún día tenga una de esa...!!
👍💪
Good job 👍👍👍

U are a genius
No. This was really simple thing to do. 🙃
In what u do all of the projects
Great little build, strange how we always feel the need for things to be portable...what i want is one with a gyro so can be used outdoors or on un-even surface without drama
For a one man shop it's a must - shuffling machinery around with ease.
Lisaks Liivimaa parimale videoprodutsendile oled sa veel Liivimaa parim karakternäitleja! ;)
Very nice. I need that for the band saw I haven't set up yet.
Now using this setup I don't even use the jack screws in the front. The saw has enough mass to stay put without locking it. I'm really happy with the result because I need to move the saw around quite often.
👍 well done sir.
Cheers mate!
Видосы у тебя ОТЛИЧНЫЕ отлично братуха !!!!!!
Love it viel grüsse aus Deutschland
I have a multi-functional metal cutting blade recommended for you, it can cut a variety of metals without changing the blade, it is very suitable for your DIY use
Best video . thanks you.
Very nice.
That's genius brother, like I always say when r u building your own IRONMAN SUIT? I know you could do it brother. Thanks for another very interesting video your friend from Larned Ks Eric Houser.
Si eso era leche Pues el queso fue bien partido no sé si el otro cuadrado era queso suizo pero hizo un buen corte suerte.🙏👍👍
Man after my own heart.
Tere, just found your channel and subscribed. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Cheers from Perth Western Australia.👍🇦🇺
P.S. What part of Estonia are you in?
Nice! I am working on putting everything on wheels as well. But because I have very little space I have mostly made dollies with the same footprint. Curious why you choose the option you did. It's very nice and I wish I had the room. Keep up the great work!
Artistismi eest 12 punkti! :)))))
love it!!!!!!!
Very nice !
Cheers!
Super creative
Thanks man!
Very nice. Sometimes I wish I became a welder. Not a carpenter
I think you're right; that saw SHOULD have been on casters already. However, that saw looks like it should be in a commercial or industrial shop, where equipment isn't moved around as much (generally). And I'm curious as to whether the base is backwards in relation to the saw. Because putting the access plate on the back of what was meant to be a stationary base is just dumb. On a mobile base (as you have made it), the location for accessing the coolant tank isn't so important, but it would be a *PAIN* in a shop where it was set against a wall.
It's a great modification to that base, and a great video.
The motor of the saw hangs over the back of thr base quite a bit do when against the wall there's still room to get to the access panel. But now when the saw is mobile there's even more room. 😁
Fantastic, thank you! Did you need to out reinforcement in the stand, behind the bolts holding on the mobile base?
well done, nice job. You don't even make any mistake in these your project, do you? Pleasure to watch your content

Thank you so much Donn! I have never seen anything like that before. I love your fabrication techniques, very cool and functional. By the way, what is the name of those welding clamps with red painted handles? You really inspired me to try the same for my jointer.
This has been done many times on RUclips. But much obliged! I hope you'll get your jointer on wheels ASAP!

Очень круто, молодец
Didn't see the cut times for the 80 x 80 tube, how does the cut time for that material compare for the cold saw vs. the Evolution saw you were using at the beginning?
Great set up nice design guy what are the name of the clamps that you’re using
Total lock casters would have saved some time, still a good job
