When I first saw clips and stuff of Zi-O I jokingly called it Decade 2.0.

DCD has the "separate world" premise so different arc, different lore, simpler to follow.
Zi-o has ALL of the Heisei Rider-verse rules taking effect ALL a the same time, on top of tv time-travel.
Just to note real quick, I always felt that the fight ending between Sougo and Geiz was less because of Tsukuyomi telling them 'oh hey, we can change the past after all' and more because the one thing that was driving Geiz to fight was now erased. It's why the two of them just start laughing after she reappears. Geiz no longer has the weight of her death pushing him down this path (as he blamed his lack of drive for why she seemed to take desperate measures that lead to her death) and Sougo can feel things finally going back to the way they were (since they had followed White Woz after he got the Zi-O 2 Ridewatch, due to them becoming worried that they might have pushed Sougo to become Oma Zi-O).
Just felt like giving my two cents there.

I think you misunerstood the tsukoyomi part, it wasn't her explaining the "The future can be changed" tht stopped them. It was them finding out that the terrible fate they thought she had encountered didn't happen and they realize they DON'T have to give in to their destiny. It was them believing that no matter what, they will fall in to fighting and killing each other and eventually giving in to that cause a valuable person to them died. When they realized that tsukoyomi wasn't dead, they resolved themselves to keep fighting for the change.
Power meant for evil being used for good is the backbone of EVERY kamen rider series.
Agitos power was never meant for evil, neither was hibiki, kabuto, den-o, fourze, wizard, drive, or ghost

Hey this was great video keep up the good content. Now about Oma himself the producer himself gave some intreasting commentary on him on the official website it goes like this:
"Ohma Zi-O is a tomb keeper.
Why is Ohma Zi-O a demon king? It's because he is the king of Heisei Rider.
The Rider monuments surrounding Sougo's statue are in a way a tomb. For 50 years, Ohma Zi-O continue to fight alone, continuing to place the memory of the should-have-been-forgotten Heisei Riders as the center of the world.

It must be evil. No matter how grand it is, to idealize the past is to condemn the present and reject the future. That is why Ohma Zi-O is the worst and most evil demon king.

Which if you line it up with everything else we know about Oma paints a better picture
1. Sougo was socially awkward due to not having any friends.
2. As such Oma never really had anyone to ground him he like the Antoher Riders were focused squarely on the past not the present which is why he was so out of touch with the suffering of tbe future.

I just don't understand what is with the producer Shirakura getting s*** writers, first being Yonemura for the 2nd half of Decade and the Taisen films; and now, Shimoyama (who previously worked on Ninninger and Kyoryuger Brave) for Zi-O.
@@chasinthroughthedecade Kento Shimoyama is also the guy who wrote the two parter debut of Kanzen Gokai-Oh. It surprised me when he screwed up Ninninger.
Think about it, Ohma Zi-O can time travel.
That means he could end the series at any point if he really wanted to.

Woz is possibly a singularity point which is mostly explained what these points are in Den-O. The real reason why he is one is the question. As for the reason why the riders trust suogo it's because these riders worked and fought with other riders for so long that just by talking with him they know they can trusts him
If you watch Kamen Rider Wizard’s finale it points out that all Kamen Riders share the same power source as their villains. The power can be used for either good or evil. Don’t think it necessarily applies to most Showa Riders, but it does for the Heisei ones.
Well the original Kamen Rider 1 was originally created by Shocker using Shocker technology to help Shocker conquer the world, but he refused and become hero of justice. Most other Showa riders were created this way as well.

I dont know anything about drakkon but to pit him against the guy who manipulates space and time, even reality because he can create kamen riders which he can do in his sleep (example: kikkai and tsukuyomi).

This is the best analysis of Zi-O I've seen. Good job.
Funny thing about Zi-O, I started watching it having only seen Wizard up until that point, and somehow managed to finish everything before the Kiva arc, I think. Maybe even before that.
But this was quite an interesting dive into the series, especially with how you describe some of the insanely subtle details of it. Really put it into perspective with everything else. And now that you mentioned a few things, they are beginning to bother me in hindsight, but this is what we have now, and for what it currently is, I still enjoyed it, but man, do I wish it was better.

Great video! You're so good at adressing the problems with a series without sounding like a complete try-hard "comedian" jerk about it. Even if I enjoyed the first half of zi-o, I think I never took those more subtle details you mentioned, makes me all the more disappointed it didn't live to its full potential because of all the plot sidetracking.

Nevertheless I agree with you. Even though Zi-O's story is not that good, I'm glad I stayed till the end. That finale is probably one of my favorite ending of all time.
But then again, there's Over Quartzer. Despite its status of being non-canon to the TV series, it actually give us more proof of the possibility of infinite timelines that exists in the show. On the other hand there's also Geiz Majesty. Which take place after the reset and we can tell from the promotional art that Sougo will still become Zi-O. Honestly there are still so much going on with Zi-O. For me, I can't ignore any of them and I think you should also try to watch Geiz Majesty if you had the chance. Maybe with that we can have more understanding of what actually happened in Zi-O. Or something like that... Pretty sure Woz will get at least a special just like what Alan or Alain got in Ghost.
Oh and don't make me start with that theory of Sougo did that reset over and over just like Homura.

Everytime time was changed in the storyline, Ohma still exists. I think it was a big hint for the final episode

I don't get the hate for Zi-O. I expected a terrible Rider series, but upon finishing it, I found so much enjoyment in Zi-O that it's in my top 3 along with Kiva and Agito
Man I was basically with this series through it's entirety and I still get sad when I know that it has ended.
I suggest watching Gaim & W, these 2 have the best story and each episode is always interconnected with each other.
This review honestly makes Zi-O a better season than people give it credit for.

While watching Zi-O thought it was okay and great in some parts, but it made me want to see Decade appear in every kamen rider season. Not as a main character, just as a cameo in the background wearing a dumb outfit and just continuing his journey. Note I know that this is not a good idea nor a practical one.
2:53 Grabbing collars is kind of a thing in Toku productions whenever a character is angry. Though now that you mention it, Geiz does do it a lot.

I surprised nobody brings up Sougo's Zi-O II powers being completely forgotten about. Geiz died already and Sougo just reversed time, same with Tsukuyomi. Yet in the finale we're supposed to be sad that it's happening even though Sougo had already been through this but rage like he did at the end.

Sweet. N yeah u right about that about the concept of Kamen Riders. 1 of missed concept or moment I kind of, sort of would have want Zi-O to mention again, is Cross of Fire. That explain very well what Riders meant to embodiment lol. N yes, not to be roundabout but for as cool as the cameo is, sometimes rather than just adding to Zi-O story, it try to resolve issues that doesn't need to resolve or resolve in unsatisfy way for past Riders XD

Considering Mahou Shojou is the gendered flip side coin of Tokusatsu/Sentai it might be interesting to see your take on them. Afterall, there is much to be said about their stories of Faustian pacts & sacrifice that resonate beyond cutesy aesthetics & J-pop, much as there is more to Power Rangers than teenagers with attitude & campy monsters!
Zio was a good turn your brain off show and enjoy the esthetics of the show. There were points where I genuinely felt like ripping my hair off because of how bad they would handle somethings and I'm usually a very optimistic person and somehow always enjoyed the toku shows I watch, zio would be the exception. I will say that the ending I felt fixed the problems I had with the show by making it as if zio never happened and once again separate all the worlds, it's to bad it took until the last episode for me to start enjoying it

The only thing I didn't like was how they ended Kirryu or Zio-II. He rewrites history with the help of Swartz and is defeated but never learns that it was Swartz was the one who killed his parents plus his story wasn't rewritten when Sougo created a new world.
Zi-o would only make sense if you see it as primarily a celebration for the writers and the production crew over the celebration primarily for the fans.

The show is about Sougo transitioning from an amateur rookie to the most tyrannical overlord who wiped out the world but why would the writers keep on consistently making this show appeal to kids? That's what bothers me. Stop making him appeal to the kids and make him the most cunning chess master. Remember, he manipulated Dan Kuroto just by being himself. He could have used this same tactic on SWARTZ of all people and use Swartz as bait and kill him singlehandedly without notice.
Sougo becomes Oma Zi-O for a good damn reason: everybody ridiculed him for his weird dream. Even if he is weird, he makes sure that the world will stop making fun of the names of Kamen Riders because they deserved to be thanked but the world never thanked them in return in spite of what they have done to save humanity from threatening monsters, aliens, etc. Oma Zi-O's iron fist reign makes a lot of sense after all. In 2068, Sougo is an old man who is misunderstood by the people. The cataclysmic destruction that resulted to wipe out half of the world's total population was entirely an accident after he kicked Swartz to death.
For over fifty years, Sougo must have fought for his life because everybody that survived always blame him to be the person responsible for the deaths of those that can't be brought back to life.
Just heard bout this show should i watch it also what series should i start on it doesnt have to be the exact timelime order but just a order that can get me really into it or what yall think is a good order and what shows i shouldnt watch also the live action show or the anime?
I'd love to see more of Ohma Zi-O, but honestly he is too OP that he ends up ending the conflict in one hit if he really means so.

This show is executive produced by the infamous Shinichiro Shirakura. He's known for being very hands-on and disregarding the peripheral and international audience, dismissing us as "basement dwellers". If you haven't seen the fourth wall breaking webseries Kamen Rider Zi-O Supplementary Plan, there's a line in regards to Sento's face being wrong: "Don't ask unnecessary questions about adult circumstances" that perfectly sums up exactly the kind of person Shirakura is and how he handles his work. He also made Decade and Den-O and the whole Faustian bargain thing is a plot point copied from Den-O's villains, the evil imagin and it's pretty much always an actual bargain unlike with the time jackers. He also worked on some other Kamen Rider shows (including Amazons) and as Lead Director of the Super Hero Taisen movies but he doesn't give a damn about anything he didn't make himself and he didn't work on Super Sentai so...
Don't forget, he has sort of "intelligent Japanese storymaker" vibe going on with him. He considered "Justice" taught by Ishinomori (Original Kamen Rider creator, mind you) to be "Childish and lead to selfish people doing bad things thinking they are right", yet his stories feature those exact type of heroes (Hibiki!Kiriya, Sougo), not to mention his tendency of using meta-narratives (Super Hero Taisen happened because Sentai stole Kamen Rider's timeslot back in the day, Heisei Generations has "Riders are nothing but TV show characters" plot, Super Hero GP and Heisei Generations revolves around "If first riders of an era is killed, no rider series after that happened" paradoxes)
Seriously. Everytime Toku fans discuss Toku series, why the heck do they never going beyond "Neo Saban and Jonathan Tzachor ruin Gokaiger adaptation"? Heck, why no one ever bring up the fact that Zyuranger, the show Shirakura made, got adapted to MMPR? Today's nostalgia-laden atmosphere means that everytime MMPR got used in a nostalgic fashion, Shirakura grins smugly since it's his work that bring Sentai to America.

You forgot stuff like "shirakura sucks" "Operation Overdrive sucks", "Victor and Monty suck" (seriously, people harassed their actors even though by all accounts their actors did an amazing job for what they were given and deserve better roles) and "The Neo Saban Era sucks except Dino Charge" and lest we forget all the goddamn blind praise that Beast Morphers is getting because no one seems to remember that the show was in production before Hasbro took over the entire franchise, it was in production when they took over the _toyline_ and they act like it's better than Dino Charge, like it's a "breath of fresh air" even though it really isn't. It has Haim's fingerprints all fucking over it!

And then they put the most fucking bland Street Fighter character whose name could coincidentally just *_happen_* to translate to "dragon" if it were spelled with the other kanji in the cheap cashgrab pay to PVP mobile game as a *_fucking ranger_* while they were at it while Chun Li *_once again_* gets the short end of the stick as just herself... Fuck Tommy and fuck Ryu! I have had *_ENOUGH_* of those two!

I never understood the reason for zi-o to be evil. The only thing I can think was because he was a rider who was all alone. He became an overlord but the end result was he wasn't cruel to the very end through his journey to ultimate power.

tbh the best cameo of a former rider was Arata Kagami being chosen by the Kabuto Zekter. 49 episodes of this man working hard to achieve his destiny and failing just to finally get his deserved reward
