    My Grandfather was a roofer by profession, my father was a roofer as a side hustle, so I grew up around shingle roofing. Now metal roofing seems to have taken over ( due in part to the demise of the asphalt shingle), but the metal roofing here in America still uses exposed screws. As a shingle type roofer I have always saw the flaw in this design ! It is wonderful to see someone has overcame this flaw in metal roofing ! Martin is a true craftsman ! I wish my grandfather was around to see this video, I think he would have finally approved of a metal roof. I also think he would have loved Martin. I see my grandfather when I look at Martin, a quiet master craftsman who takes pride in his work. That roof looks wonderful.

    • @SingularlyNaked
      @SingularlyNaked Год назад +19

      My family just had a standing seam roof installed on our summer cabin in Maine, and they also used exactly this kind of hidden clips. The manufacturer was Englert, I think. The guys who put it on were also just as amazing as Martin. Instead of curves, we have ridiculously complicated peaks and valleys. The craftsmanship is indeed amazing!

    • @vigilantcosmicpenguin8721
      @vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 Год назад +6

      I never considered that metal roofing has overtaken shingles, but I guess I've subconsciously noticed it. I guess cheaper building materials are the driving factor?

    • @SingularlyNaked
      @SingularlyNaked Год назад +10

      @@vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 I think it ends up being about the same, or maybe a little cheaper, but lasts 2-3 times longer than asphalt. That's the main reason we went with metal in Maine; getting it done (or doing it ourselves like we used to) is a huge enormous pain there, so I wanted a roof that would outlive me. It'll probably outlive my kids too.
      Also it's slightly easier to attach solar panels. You basically just clip them to the seams!

      @a0flj0 Год назад +3

      "(...) takes pride in his work" - I believe what he feels is a bit different. To take pride in your work you need to care about what others think. Instead, I believe Martin finds satisfaction in his work - a feeling that doesn't require any relation to mother's. It's just the craftsman and his craft that's involved.
