- International Business - Strategy / Consulting - Information Technology - Marketing - Business Analytics Good list! Doing mine in international business and innovation/strategy
I wouldn’t bother with an MBA today there are so many of them, which is why he promotes specialisation. MBA got a bad name in corporate institutions long ago because so many middle managers used it as a climbing frame into senior management as a fast track to income, however without experience the theory just fails as many have subsequently done.
I'm a Control Systems Engineer currently doing an MBA with a specialization in Business Analytics. As a Controls engineer I see how much data is collected when processes are automated. There is a high demand for the combined skillsets of being able to technically analyze large data sets and make insightful data driven business decisions.
Hello, in January I'm starting an MBA program in Location Analytics at the University of Redlands. This concentration incorporates location analytics into different areas of business which includes strategy, marketing, operations, sales, information systems, finance, and human resources. This program also identifies the role that location analytics can play in different business sectors for competitive advantage on a local, regional, national, and global scale.
Hi Richard. I recently started my iMBA at University of Illinois. I found your videos really helpful to make the decision to go for my MBA. I’m thinking I might do mergers and acquisitions but haven’t yet decided. Thanks!
Hello Nelson, what do you think of the program so far? Any recommendations? I’m planning to start next fall I have more questions please, let me know if you’re free sometime. Thanks a lot
Hi Austin - that's another good option! Was tempted to include on the list, but felt it was a bit limited to physical products (for the purposes of this video). That said, supply chain is incredibly important. It has been and will only continue to be, given the major shifts we're seeing in supply chain management and the need for resilience in that area of the business. Best of luck w/ applying!
I am doing BBA with 3 specializations in banking, finance and marketing. I will do MBA in Healthcare management and want to do MS Marketing which focuses on consumer behavior and neuromarketing.
I thank you so much. I was trying to decide between International Business and Data Analytics. You put it so clear. One is #5 and the other is #1. Can't ask for anything more simple than that.
I have a chemistry background wherein I have been teaching chemistry for 7 years now. I wanted to switch paths and wondering what type of MBA would be ideal for me? I feel marketing or sales. What could work?
I am considering an MBA with a Business Analytics focus at the University of Illinois at Springfield. I will talk to them this week to find out about the prereqs. It doesn't look like you can finish in the timeline they posted if you need the prereqs, which are not covered by the other required courses.
@@RichardWalls Thanks! I'm on my last week of the first class. So far so good. I'm concerned about the teacher to student ratio. My next class had two professors, now there's one covering both and they increased the cap to 75 each, and I noticed he's covering at least one other class (undergrad). I will assume there will be very little contact and just fly solo.
I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and I’m interested in doing MBA. What specialization should I look into, if I want to switch careers from Civil to something in the office role. Civil is more of a field work job.
How about Project Management? What’s your opinion on this speciality? Both Ohio University and Wright State University in Ohio offer this specialty. Likely what I will end up pursuing.
I’m interested in a mba in business analytics and also mba in engineering management from UC Irvine. I meet the gpa requirements and will be discussing the course requirements tomorrow. Hopefully I make a decision this week between the two and get accepted to start this Summer! 🙏🏽
Hi Rich, do you think is it worth getting an MBA within specialization in Accounting? Also in your perspective, how a specialization in accounting can be related to a specialization in finance?
If you're already in the accounting profession and want to continue down that path, then yes it would be worth it. Not sure I understand your second question, but they would be pretty distinctly different tracks.
I graduate with a bachelor's degree in supply chain, transportation, and logistics management next year. I am looking for a reasonable MBA with a concentration in supply chain management. I have 16 years of experience in warehouse logistics, looking to merge into the aerospace and defense industry. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Kourtney.
@thasmydjay omg...very excited for you! I'm in the UK also work as a 'travel nurse' in A&E and about to commence in oncology as a chemotherapy nurse, currently studying MSc Organisational (Business) Psychology maybe one day do the MBA - best wishes!
I was conflicted between finance and business analytics, comparing the salary, job growth, opportunitie and being future proof (something that can't be automated by AI). I'm really trying to research as much as possible but I'm still stuck at square 1. Could you share your opinion and suggestions?
@chinhdo8459 Hey, sorry for the late reply. For me personally, finance is a specialized field within which, you have choices of mastering specific skills according to the work - like PE, VC, IB, Etc , but business analytics is a skill and not a field in itself. You can still analyze financial data and give expert advice while specializing in finance but with business analytics, you can only do the data analysis part and nothing more. You can learn the data analysis skills from anywhere online, even after specializing in finance but mastering core financial skills might require you to go to a business school. Also, finance is very interesting ;)
Great video. Surprised to not see Finance on this list. I'd have thought it to be like the evergreen, perpetually in demand specialisation. Your thoughts?
Hi Nachiket - by no means is finance a bad specialization...just not as versatile as others, in my opinion. That said, if someone really wants to go into finance, then the specialization would be absolutely appropriate.
Hi Richard, thanks for your videos, very informative I’m very interested in iMBA program at Gies. But i have one concern regarding the name iMBA and not MBA….. does iMBA has the same credibility as MBA? Did you face any question marks from employers regarding the program? Why it’s called iMBA and not MBA? The final degree is scripted as iMBA or MBA? Thanks again and appreciate your effort and response Mahmoud
so is your #1 the same as a specialization in "big data&business intelligence" or is that different? And if you had to choose between "Big data & business intelligence" OR "Digital Marketing & Ecommerce" which would you choose, and why?
Hi Alexia - yes, close enough. Many of those terms are used almost interchangeably. On the other question, if you really want to take your career in a digital marketing/ecommerce path, then that. For just about anything else, big data & BI will be more widely valued.
I completed MBA in business analytics degree and I will say they are very close because the optional courses I took for my specialization includes data science and business intelligence.
Hi Alexxa - if what you want to do is program/project mgmt, there is the PMP certification that is well recognized in the industry. Far more affordable than an MBA and could be enough to land you a role in that particular role.
Hi Aya - difficult to answer as it totally depends on what you want to do in your career next. If you're interested in a global role at a multinational company, then an international business MBA. Otherwise, marketing is good and widely applicable.
Do you happen to reply to comments ? I think i commented long time ago and got no reply. I am subscribing now btw. I will ask you AGAIN. Regarding your video about affordable mba in uk. Do you think this is a good option or is it bad option? It is regarding the mba of Manchester Metropolitan University. Hi Richard thank for the video. I'm currently looking for a Master in management, what is your opinion about the master in management of univ. Of Illinois urbana champaign? The total tuition is around 11k, is it worth it in your opinion? Thank you
Answered in separate video, but repeating here. :) it depends on your goal. My preference would be the MBA as I believe it to be more widely applicable.
What about strategic management well now I’m going to choose a major to study but I’m so confused between strategic management an E-business so please give me your opinion
Depends on your career goals, but strategic management is not a specialization I'd recommend. An MBA typically has more than enough coursework on management, and further coursework is unnecessary.
