  • I gave this Dharma talk at Nebraska Zen Center in late January, 2024. It focuses on what is probably a Confucian saying that reads something to the effect, "Recite a poem while viewing the moon and flower(s)."
I give context for how I came to be interested in the subject of Buddhism and Ecology, particularly from influences in college.
I talk about how my first swim instructor were my pet frogs. Yes! Frogs!
I discuss a dialogue I studied about Lakota medicine people and Jesuit missionaries on the Rosebud Reservation, and what we have to learn not only from Buddhist ways of understanding ecology, but also Indigenous peoples.
I close with a poem, encouraging each of us to rethink how we see the world.
    Brief discussion with comments ensues.
