When I saw your thumbnail, I girded my loins and got ready to come in here and defend Scarface to the pain. However, your points about the teach are well taken. I do still love the game though. The theme is so good and it's just so much fun to play that the pain of the teach is outweighed for me.
I'm with you, it's good enough that it's a forever game for me at this point. Was excited to add in 2 more solo decks to my pledge so I can play with 3 automa. Finally went ahead and did the teach with the group. They liked it, and basically said "yeah that first game was rough, now I wanna play it again" :)
I haven't had Scarface 1920 all that long, tabled it once. It is hard to teach and table, and it is a long gameplay. So your point is valid. I love the solo mode, particularly with the enforcers. I can hammer out a solo game pretty quickly now and it may be it's strength. But I really look forward to tabling it with my group again.
Thanks for this video ❤ We have Tanares on the shelf and definately going to play it within the next like 1-4 years (huge stack of campaign games on the shelf^^) and as far as Race to the Raft goes, I had the same feeling for it being a solo game when I played it back in Essen 2024
If I may be honest sir... I didn't mind any of the games you've mentioned besides Scarface 1920. Sure it might have a longer teach, but the experience is worth it. It is a more complex and deep than other area control you've mentioned (and you know I LOVE D.E.I) So sometimes the teach is worth the game. It's not 'just' an area control game and it has so many ither elements to it, not to mention that everything about it is just dripping of theme! Which you have to be honest, not a common thing our days. Anyways, loved the video and thank you 😊
@BoardGameCo i think it is a neat game for sure but I feel like most turns have a very scripted "best thing to do" and I don't like the inefficiency of needing to end your turn on the card you want to pick it up. Or people just picking up whatever they end up on. Makes me sound like an Alpha gamer (which i mostly am not) but i don't like playing with unnecessary inefficiency
Scarface 1920 is another TI4. Played with people that know how to play it, it is wonderful. And you get to play it that way twice a year. Teaching both is something you want to avoid, which in turn makes it harder to table.
I have very similar feelings toward Dreadful Meadows; it’s a game that I like but don’t love. It’s staying in the collection though because I only table it in Spooky Season
I became the beneficiary of your copy of Tesseract (thanks again!). Do I enjoy it? Very much so. Do I like it better than The LOOP? No. But crisis management is my favorite genre, so I have no problem owning several of these types of games for variety’s sake.
dreadful meadows i have had enough after one game. right there i thought i wouldn't know hoe it would play differently the next game. but the one game was fine.
I haven’t even listened to the part on Scarface 1920…….but this one…….has not faded for me. Granted I have only played it twice…..but I can’t wait to play it again. No other game makes you feel like a Bad Azz Mobster more than this game. The teach isn’t that bad…..because it’s not that complicated and lots of the mechanism are intuitive because they are thematic. It is quite a bit to go through, but I think the teach isn’t as bad as other games. I think the teach for Evenfall is more complicated than Scarface 1920.
@BoardGameCo controlling areas in scarface doesn't get you much outside businesses and storage, scarface is about making money and selling/buying. There is actually very little fighting for control of locations outside the centre districts. This is coming from someone who owns an original copy and has played it every month since release. Area control is just a tiny part of the game compared to the engine building/deck building aseptic of the game.
Unfortunately once I get the expansion for Scarface 1920 the game and expansions is going to be sold. I've played this once, and not again. It's good, but the issues you talk about are valid.
Really appreciate this type of list! Helps to decrease the new is always great and better feel that a lot of reviewers only do

Your poncho/hoodie (hooncho? poodie?) combo looks super comfy
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on all these. I've only play Cosmoctopus; it's a wild ride that I still love after almost 100 plays, ha.
I'm only at 14 plays but I absolutely love this game and hope to hit 100!!!!

Too many bones > cloudspire > burncycle > victorum > remastered
Lol, wait until you see my CTG ranking :)
@BoardGameCo 😲 I can't wait now that you revealed!!
Scarface is a GREAT game! ...but yeah, there's soooo much to it that makes it difficult to table and teach.
Exactly, it's one of those ones that makes me sad
Have you considered keeping your games out of direct sunlight?
I do with most of them, that's why there's only 10 here.
Good list. Thanks!
Though the most important thing I remembered is to check out Scarface 1920 😅
lol not the worst takeaway
Tanares Adventures? How dare you, sir! Good day! I said good day!
Interesting. The Loop faded for me after I championed for most of a year. Where as Tessaract has continued to grow as I teach it to new players.
I love the Loop still :)

Scarface has been on my want in trade lost forever!

Yep, I really enjoy the game, it just doesn't change at all when you play.

Dang these games are so faded they should probably lay off the weed
Did you hire an editor? Your video appears to have editing and the games being shown on screen from post-production.
Lol no....but some videos I make the sacrifice for :)
You mentioned 2023 in your introduction. Did you mean 2024?
Nope :)
Once I watched more 2023 makes sense now lol
Scarface is not an area control game. It's a war game much like dune imperium.
Sure....except there are clear elements of area control in the game in a way that isn't true of Dune Imperium.

Yep, I love playing it, hate teaching it
