*I feel for this lady, I live in Sacramento and commute to Sunnyvale it's about 125 miles one way. I leave at 4am and get to work by 6am. It's easier on me though because I get to stay at my girlfriends dads house during the week, but on Friday if I don't leave to go home before 1pm It'll take me 3 hours to drive home, Sacramento is the only place I can afford to have my own place based on my income*
That's why this San Francisco native HAD TO LEAVE if I wanted to have any chance of keeping our family healthy mentally, emotionally, and financially. It broke my heart, but the city has changed so that it doesn't even resemble the same city of the 70s and 80s. Liberal is not always better, in fact, it's often worse. Bless this woman's heart, my commute was only an hour and a half back then, and it definitely affected time with my family, hours that you cannot get back...and kids do indeed grow up so quickly.
This woman and others like her are the backbone of this country. I live in SF and the tech companies, which pay their young workers unbelievable high amounts, have created a housing and income crisis in this city. My home, which I have owned for 15 years has almost tripled in value. I was able to both rent and buy in earlier years in the city but now I wouldn't be able to buy my own house today. There was a burned down house in the city that was sold for almost $900K. I guess it is great for when I retire but keeps me and others locked into their homes until then and changes the mix in the city of just having wealthy tech employees living here. The tech companies have destroyed this area with their wealth. The greedy mayor and politicians here have helped fuel this crisis.
Bernadette come to Florida and you'll get about the same salary if not more and you can buy a new 4 bedroom home in the suburb in a gated community for less than $200,000. Or rent a 4 bedroom in the suburb for $1,200 water in included. great schools.
Michou Giraud I'm not sure RN pay but I have heard nurses I know that were LPN turned RN say they make about 70 to 75 thousand. I'm not sure if thats base pay or with overtime pay. But your situation is different with your student loans and it works for you now. My best friend lives in Jacksonville and they have great areas to live in. She's a surgery tech and she loves her job. I would definitely look into for when your ready to move.

My poor husband has been doing it for the past 19 years. We live in Modesto Ca and works all over the Bay Area . Leaves the house by 3 o'clock in the morning and comes home around 5 or later. The 3 hour commute is the normal. Sad but necessary evil.

Yeah same. About 5 mins from leaving my door to being at work. Super cheap rent on a 3 bedroom house on 1/2 acre, decent part of town. Really though... Living in places like California, New York, Washington, parts of Florida(miami/ft lauderdale)... You are paying a premium to be there, its like deciding you want to live in Apple Iphones, when theres plenty of good android phones for half the price... but you want to live In IPhone, not Xbrand. Even though Xbrand is going to give you the quality of life you actually want... but it doesnt sound like... IPhone... So... you dont live there, cause who wants to NOT live in IPhone?
Oh, not to mention... Shes in one of the most heavily demanded jobs in the US/World... She can literally move anywhere she wanted after putting in a couple months of resumes, some hospitals might even pay for her move...... But no, shes going to work in SF and live in some 3 hour commute place because "the places there are too expensive" well, theres your sign lady...
I'm from Southern California, my family just got in on the East Bay at a place that stretched us to our maximum budget but allowed us the quick access to Sacramento and the rest of the Bay Area that we needed. I feel like it is a miracle.
The solution is transform the bay area into Tokyo. We don't build high rises in this country outside of the center cities, yet we insist on increasing the population through mass immigration. In Asia, companies also provide low cost dorms for workers. Finally, California is CORRUPT and mismanaged. High Speed rail is a not gonna happen unless people are willing to pay a very high price for it. All over the world the rail is subsidized by the govt. Fed govt. isn't gonna subsidize California rail. Also, the water infrastructure is 100 yrs + and there are not even adequate reservoirs.
Haha, I know. All I could think of in this entire video was wasn't' this the lady that said Santa and Jesus was white? I personally don't care either way, but the way she said it was full of hate IMO.

Come to Texas! We need more wonderful people like you in our medical center in Houston! With that salary you can afford to live in the suburbs and your commute will only be 45 minutes if you live near Hwy 45.
I did this for 2 years. Commuted from Long Island to NYC 5 days a week. 2 hours one way, so 4 hours in total. Not worth it in my opinion, there is only so long you can do this until your body and mind break down. I moved to North Carolina and now I make the same salary as I did in NYC, but my commute is 15 minutes one way, and my rent is half of what it would be in Long Island. This is why so many people are leaving NYC and other large cities.
If you are a software engineer making $200k a year, then $4500 a month is probably not an issue, especially if you're single. And it can be a very demanding profession, where you simply don't have the time to be making ridiculous commutes. Basically, paying that type of rent can be worth the financial sacrifice.
Why stay there? My mom is a nurse here in NC and has been for 11 years. She makes a little over $100,000 a year. Cost of living is so much cheaper here as well.
I travel 160 miles each way to work 5 days a week and I work Union Construction which is 10X’s more physical than her job yet I don’t get to be on tv....I get a company truck otherwise I wouldn’t do it...plus the $46 per hour pay isn’t that bad either
I work in tech and for the love of God pls stop blaming tech people for every San Francisco problem. The city is collecting lots of tax money from tech salary, tech stocks and property taxes. Also, tech people can't afford these rental rates as well without spending a huge portion of our salary! I'm not American and where I am from, there is plenty of public housing and policies in places to prevent property markets from overheating or slapping tariffs on landlords snapping up too many properties and keeping them empty. In Singapore if a new building complex is built they have to sell it in a few years without incurring a huge penalty. Sure there's million dollar houses but also accessible housing because of well planned out policies. And what does San Francisco have? Allocating 9 units in a new condo complex for 900$ instead of 4k to the low income as "public housing" to a waiting list of 3K applicants as solution to affordable housing?? The ineffectiveness of the government is the problem here, not people with tech jobs making high salaries and paying sky high taxes to a city who doesn't seem to be spending any of that money improving anything at all

I live in San Jose and it's terrible. I'm glad the farther I've ever has to commute is to the city or Pleasant Hill, which are both reverse commute.
Wow! I complain about work home life balance, but Bernadette is a saint. What a great Mom!
its sad. such a wasye of life. 6 hours just commuting? she could just have two jobs and stay in town.
I spend 5 to 6 hours in a day to go to anf from work sometimes 8 hours and then also work. Its so sad how the system is set up but she's really trying and its amazing. So comforting
Wow, respect!
I do know her pain, but I can't imagine doing it full time. I have been travelling 7 hours a day to and from Tafe every Monday and Tuesday for a year now.
Doing this kind of commute really starts to take its toll after a while. I definitely don't think it's healthy way of having to live
My father-in-law does this. He works in Boston but lives in northern Maine. He's been doing it for about 7 years now. He says that Massachusetts is just expensive to begin with but that Boston is ten times worse than the rest of the state. Although Maine has a cheaper cost of living, the job market sucks. He says "you have to do what you gotta do."
Did it change for him during Covid? Dan he work from home now?
And I thought my 40 minutes driving commute was long.
She’s an amazing person and her son seems very respectful. She’s doing great!
Lady From The Well liberal? what does liberalism have to do with this?
Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg-Gotha Agent 001 MI6/SIS it actually has plenty to do with this
This woman and others like her are the backbone of this country.
I am from Stockton! Love a strong mom like her to represent.
Bernadette come to Florida and you'll get about the same salary if not more and you can buy a new 4 bedroom home in the suburb in a gated community for less than $200,000. Or rent a 4 bedroom in the suburb for $1,200 water in included. great schools.
I'm from fl and I wanted to write the same thing.
Michou Giraud
The salary and the cost of living evens out. The price of things is cheaper in fl then in California
Michou Giraud
I'm not sure RN pay but I have heard nurses I know that were LPN turned RN say they make about 70 to 75 thousand. I'm not sure if thats base pay or with overtime pay. But your situation is different with your student loans and it works for you now. My best friend lives in Jacksonville and they have great areas to live in. She's a surgery tech and she loves her job. I would definitely look into for when your ready to move.
Michou Giraud good luck
Where do you live because I live in FL in to rent a two bedroom it's 1200 and an 3 bedroom is 1400 plus to own in my area is way more
She is a great example of a failed system
Andrew Yang is planning on fixing this, if everyone would check him out it would give you a whole new insight on what we can do to fix this growing issue.
Yang 2020 yes !!! 1000 per month
I live in Pleasanton so I definitely understand the cost of living in the bay area. I rent the house I live in and the cost of living is ridiculous. Stockton is much cheaper, but what about Hayward,San Leandro, or San Lorenzo that would make her commute a lot less.
What an amazing woman!!
Crystal Sumpter too many Mexicans there 🤮🤮
Heck why not Livermore. Even Gilroy is closer to SF than Stockton.
My poor husband has been doing it for the past 19 years. We live in Modesto Ca and works all over the Bay Area . Leaves the house by 3 o'clock in the morning and comes home around 5 or later. The 3 hour commute is the normal. Sad but necessary evil.
Insane, my 20 minute round trip is more than enough, 4 hour work day, life's too short to be stuck in traffic.
Super Commuting is also very common in the DMV Area as well.
Matthew Morgan Yes, I live in OldTown Alexandria with roommates now. I use to have my own place in Woodbridge but I couldn’t deal with driving 95 anymore. I take the metro to work now. 10 min ride.
None ya businezz I live on the MD side and I95 is bad enough, but on the VA side, it's brutal. I would have to find another job if I had to compute to or through VA.
@@noneyabusinezz6671 if you would like to get rid of those roommate's and move let me know.
She has to spend so much additional time away from her son. That is very sad. Our society is set up to make it more difficult for families to spend time together
Was a super commuter for about two years, two hours thirty min one way, you do what you have to in life. America's greed, cost of living is ungodly!
Absolutely not. Salute to everyone who does this. No one should have to do this. This is disastrous to your health.
This breaks my heart 😢❤️
It's so emotional , her son needs the time of her Mom , I love to give all of my free time to my old mother , it feels like heaven .
Very hard working lady!
God Bless that Mom. She is a committed parent. I hope she'll be able to move closer to work and spend more time with her son soon.
His mom is a LEADER....
Every such MOTHER is a leader....
Every such FATHER is a leader....
I reaally shouldn't complain about my 1.5 hour bus commute to and from school even though it's exhausting to take three buses!
jess I was thinking the same thing, and my commute is much less than yours.
Four Seasons it’s tough! my commute would be 45 minutes but the buses take so much time 😔
I commute 1 hour each way, sometimes longer if traffic is a mess.......ive been doing it for 33 years.....raised 3 wonderful children, now grandchild that I pick up each day because her mom commutes 1-2 hours each way each day.....thankfully I go in earlier to be able to get off early enough to pick grandchild up.........you never get used to it but just deal with it!
Matt Olivier you seriously ask that? JOBS are in major cities... and yes, married to baby daddy 35 years, he works also......truck driver.........built our own home........ most people I work with drive into city... better jobs to match your degree and definitely better pay...... hope I answered your question!! Have a great day!!!!!!!!!
@Matt Olivier what a dickhead
An hour each way is not too bad though (I have the commute time). But 3 hours each way, that’s just insane!!!
50 min commute here. Its unbearable in the winter but prices in Toronto r wayyy to high!! And no good mass transit in Canada.
I live a 5 minutes drive from work, and it takes 10 minutes from leaving my door to sitting at my desk :) and thats not an exaggeration at all!!
There drawbacks to that as well I assume. Life is what you make it
@lendra2010 nothing unless your boss knows. lol
I had a 5 min commute years back....ahhh! Pure bliss.
Kudos to her but Move! Find another job, what's your time worth?
I would cry every day 😭
I've tried, but just can't take this woman seriously after her race-baiting hateful years on Fox.
Anthony Stewart this woman irks me
Keyword FOX
Haha, I know. All I could think of in this entire video was wasn't' this the lady that said Santa and Jesus was white? I personally don't care either way, but the way she said it was full of hate IMO.
Richard Andrews ....Jesus definitely wasn't white, but I don't believe he was black. I feel he was middle eastern, dark olive maybe.
Santa is white
God bless her. What a great mom.
Thank God I live 2 min from my work!
That's sweet!
I'm shocked to hear Megyn Kelly say something so simple and something that makes sense for a change.
I travel an hour and a half and people ask me how I do it. It’s not that bad. People, like this woman, are ones I look up to.
Im so grateful and thankful i work from home and i live in a cheaper part of California.
When you've sold your soul
I relate to this 100% I feel for this mom.
Why is she attacking people in the tech industry? Lol she makes way more money than them.
Because the tech industry has made people like me and many others almost homeless that's y
@@jasontomica8938 Yea but then she starts talking about how Elon Musk will solve the problem. He is a tech guy with a tech company. So her solution is the people she bash? Cmon now.
Pray for this Great mom ❤️🇺🇸🙏
Come to Texas! We need more wonderful people like you in our medical center in Houston! With that salary you can afford to live in the suburbs and your commute will only be 45 minutes if you live near Hwy 45.
THAT is black excellence
Housing needs to be regulated in CA.
Omg I'm crying at the part I'm a leader not a follower. God bless this momma!
Cops, fire fighters, and teachers should really think about living somewhere else.
I'm from Long Beach, CA, but live in FL. My commute is one hour to and from work everyday, but I'm not complaining!!!
i need an update on her!! hopefully she found a better area
I'm very proud of her as a mom. She endures and perseveres, raises a good son.
University student here. Splitting a studio next to campus for $200 monthly cost (w/ utilities). The only issue? Residing in Missouri
The thought of people being ok with spending $4500 a month on rent makes me cringe.
Which trade/local if you don’t me asking?
You go girl !
I'm exhausted watching her after two minutes.
The ineffectiveness of the government is the problem here, not people with tech jobs making high salaries and paying sky high taxes to a city who doesn't seem to be spending any of that money improving anything at all
Those tech companies in SF doesn't work on "chips", they write software.
Yes but they are extremely overpaid. Plus not to mention they are stealing our data
Ythis brought tears 😭 to my eyes.. she seem so sweet 🥲
What about Washington DC Metro Area
Henry McComments 👏👏👏👏
Henry McComments FACTS
I wonder if Mr. Thurmond Alford is still making that crazy commute from Richmond to DC everyday.
Oh my god I know I’m from the Virginia side of DC, and my dad works with people who commute from West Virginia.
PA to DC every day.
An amazing mother that takes the time to still pickup there child I HAD TO WALK HOME
Cole Valley is a “shady” area? Lol it’s one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in SF. Not knocking her struggle... but like... you could look in Sunset or daily city....
It’s true I’m a truck driver and I drive in and around California often and it is unreal the amount of traffic that pours in and out of the major areas in the mornings and afternoons.
San Francisco is such a ripoff
This lady have inspired..
Nahhh..im good. No supercommuting for me.
My commute to work averages 4hrs a day. Almost 2 hrs from the house to the office and more than 2 hrs going home. It includes walking queuing, waiting, walking in between. I spend a huge portion of my monthly salary on it, which is equivalent to the half of what a minimum wage earner here makes in a month. I've been wanting to quit my job
