UAW: We want to work 32 hours a week and get paid for 40 hours. And we want to make $65/hr. Average American College Grad: I want to study for 7 years to learn everything I need to know to get an entry level job. Then I want to work 60 hours a week making $35/hr equivalent so I can learn more.
This is the problem in the country. Blue collar used to mean "essential" and "works harder." Today it means "can be replaced by by automation at 1/4 the cost."

This fight is not middle class vs middle class. It's middle class vs Corporate greed.
Vehicles are high because shareholders and Ceo's need their 29million salary not the workers . The UAW took pay cuts and car prices continued to rise regardless. Every middle/working class person deserve a fair raise. These businesses make millions off people working to make companies profits.

I don’t work there, but From what I’ve seen, over the years there’s been a lot of rule changes and restructuring from all sides, so chances are it’s all true to some extent.
If you started working there in the 80’s/90’s, you most likely have pension, good wage that was fought for, etc, if you’re new you’re getting thrown under the bus with temporary workers being stuck at low rate for several years and lack of retirement and future path to making a wage that ensures some sense of independence. And lots of people in between. It seems to depends on who was grandfathered in, and individual plants being somewhat different in how they handle it.

@teslapower5461 not that they can't, they won't. Once you find out numbers you can do the math and find out the truth. For instance I saw video yesterday about a guy on the picket line who said it took him 9 years to get from the lowest pay to the highest. I have heard highest pay is $32/hr. If we assume a low pay of $18 that is a 77% increase in 9 years or just slightly under 9% per year. I wonder how many here have gotten a 9% raise just once in the last 9 years. I know I havent.

Low tier employees starts at 15.50 an hour and medical insurance only but the problem for me is where does labor laws stand in on this situation how can they just allow the corporations to work employees at full-time hours but lower pay and now they are cutting hours to make it look good for them which is not fair cuz obviously people have learned how to make some ends meet under these circumstances and now they are not on schedule at all so now they have no income.. like really how fair is this. Labor laws needs to get in place and pay these people for there hard work and time.

Rubber workers went on strike for 3 to 4 months. Once a deal was reached the big 3 tire makers at the time started the process of moving operations out of Akron to other parts of US and world. What also is disturbing is Fain focuses on CEO pay but does not point out these companies have bloated management, administration and vice presidents who perform redundant tasks. Yeah these companies could pay assembly workers more if they got rid of a bunch of vice presidents. Why hasn’t fain mentioned this at all.

Some of them make 17-18 on the check tier 1. Even if total package is 90-100 (40 on check) it’s still not enough to live on.

@@JasonHenderson The company you work for doesn’t owe you a house, car, and whatever else you want. I wouldn’t meet any demands, but what do I know about cars!
Oh yeah I don’t drive anything other than Japans finest, so let them strike!

@@easttennesseeshakerboxes4833 no one is claiming they owe us. But these are the things that you could do in the 1980s when you had job in a factory working all day. We gave up so much in 2008 when the companies and union lied to us and we're just trying to get that back.

How do you just walk on the production floor?
“I’ll be frist tell you work super hard lol”
      Huh? English is hard
“They deserved noting in my opinion”
      Huh?
Maybe go back to school and get your GED instead of hating on working Americans asking for their fair share.
