Love, love, love the older Chevy's! What memories this brings back. When I was a kid growing up in the '70s, our next door neighbor had three teenage daughters and a 1969 Caprice. In 7th grade, I used to ride to school with them every morning in the Caprice listening to Zeppelin on the 8 track. All my buddies were jealous. I always thought it was because of the girls, but now that I think about it , it was probably because I didn't have to ride the bus and got to rock out on the way to school.....

Nice engine/exhaust melody- beautiful car. A Caprice with a 454 was probably specially ordered through a dealer, or was ordered as a dealer demonstrator. Most had the 350. The interesting thing: carbureted vehicles predominantly powered America, even the world,up through the early 90's. I worked at an independent shop during high school from about 95-97 and we were still seeing some carburetor work. Manufacturers had nearly 100 years of perfecting the carburetor to that point. As long as everything is in good repair, doesn't matter how cold it is outside. Infact I think carbureted cars start faster than EFI cars on cold days. We had a lot of carbureted cars in the family when I was growing up. I don't recall a single instance of carburetor problems causing a break down or causing a car not to start. People usually weren't on the side of the road with a "carburetor problem." A carburetor may get out of adjustment and rubber pieced get hard and cause poor running and drivability but not cause a car to just stop running.

yeah buddy! What a great car...Can't beat a 454 for sure. I remember when our parents drove home in our first "decent" car, a 69 Caprice coupe with the base 396 and hideaway headlights...Thought I had died and gone to heaven, sure wish we could have kept it...

My Dad bought a '69 Caprice. First new car he ever owned! We'd drive 450 miles to see my Grandparents each Summer in Buffalo NY, and the next morning he'd be out in the driveway handwashing the bugs and road grime off! Loved that car.

Adam, I’m not sure if the fiber type heat tube is available anymore, but I used the flexible metal type and painted it to look correct on a ‘70 Electra 225 convertible I had. Good luck and what a terrific collection!

Wow, cannot remember the last time I saw a 70 Impala or Caprice on the road or even at a show. She is a beauty - when I was a kid, my Uncle had one in white with the same blue interior. Enjoy it!

So the Ingersoll-Rand generators use a similar looking metal flex tube for their air box. I used that instead. I know it's not going to win a concouse d'elegance like your cars would, but from 5 feet back, it looks the part. Beautiful car and I miss that sound. wWen I was a kid growing up we had a neighbour a few doors down with a blue one like yours and I'd be lucky enough to hear it when walking to school.

Man oh man..... THAT is one beautiful looking ride!!! If it means anything, this is coming from a die hard blue oval guy, who's been turning wrenches for a living at various dealerships since 1994. I miss the days when GM had all four divisions, turning out some really iconic rides. Times sure have changed...

This brings a heady dose of nostalgia, a smile, because I grew up when this car was everywhere. Sure the air above cities was brown and hazy with raw leaded gasoline exhaust, but these big automobiles were solid, dependable, and would effortlessly turn rubber tires into smoke anytime, anywhere.

Adam, Thank you. As always I enjoyed what you bring to us!
Regarding the manifold heat duct, I haven't seen the black version in a long time, so I'd say that's probably a day-one OEM piece. If it's it's a version of paper/cardboard then consider it's an asbestos product so be sure to exercise caution when touching it. You might consider replacing that with a modern aluminum piece and spray paint it with manifold heat resistant black paint.
Do you know if 1970 was the first year that the COLD light was deleted?
