Intresting ...the Spitfire comes with a JET type pilot while their Sea Harrier FRS1 (Kit number A04051A) comes with a WW2 type pilot.

A lot more detailed wheel bays than the old days. Gun bays at this scale are rare. Cockpit detail and detailed floor. Paint washes and drybrushing will bring those parts out fine and modelling is about modelling so adjustments is all part of the challenge as we are very spoilt these days. These are Series one kits in old money so compared to the ones we had in the 70s,80s and big jump. A seat cushion just as rare. Nice set and a diff Spit variation is always nice. Amazing aircraft that often get forgotten in the understandable attention to the armies, armour and shipping etc. Many a low flying ground attack Typhoon/ Tempest pilot lost to ground fire whilst battering enemy armour and emplacements. A nice membership boxset. Thanks Gary and hope the hobby is helping you get through the month. Lovely detailed video as usual. For more detail go to Eduard but expect to pay a chunk more. A challenge here and there improves the skills what ho!!!

It would have probably been a better release if they hadn't also announced individual reissues of each kit. Club kits are better if they don't clash with the standard range such as the Meteor which came with new pieces which wouldn't enter the standard range for another year.

Wish they would ship the club kits to the United States. They used to.

Unlike many , I absolutely love the later Spitfires. The deep chord rudder makes all the difference.

Great video as always Gary. As I'm a lowly Canadian I'm not privy to the perks of the Airfix Club 😩. Would be nice if they were to offer this kit to the general public in the future.

And you deserve it mate. Up the Canadians. Huge brave contribution to knocking the Third Reich back into the toilet it came from. Plus id rather visit Canada than the U.S any day of the week.

Great video Gary. Bit of an oversight by Airfix with the Spitfire pilot. I think you're right.. modern pilot from the BBMF. [Edit: I just checked and 245 swapped back and fore between Holmsley South and Eastchurch in April - June 1944. MR is right for a Typhoon IB from 245 Sqdn. To be fair to the Airfix editor - who probably just looks for /spelling/ mistakes - and the printers they both assume the researcher who created the document was right, and in this case they're not. IMHO the research on the /models/ is top notch, however the research on the real subject's history is what Airfix need to address.]

Detailed review thank you Gary. Just finished the Spitfire, disappointingly old and lacking detail for a club kit but with a fair amount of prep it looks ok. The 'no walk' decals for the Spitfire wing have been flipped in a similar way to the wing drill markings on the Typhoon.

The earlier Next generation Airfix 1/72nd scale kits had big panel lines.

Fair assessment of these two kits, Gary, a little underwhelming from Airfix this year. My Spitfire has gone to the modelling equivalent of the fire ground: a paint mule! Fit of transparencies was awful and the join between the wings and fuselage was similar. The final nail in its coffin was when painting the invasion stripes the masking tape (Tamiya) removed the PRU blue and primer....yes, the kit had been washed and the paint/primer allowed to properly dry.
Looking forward to the Typhoon, I don't think I've ever made one. Best wishes, Nick

Thanks Gary, great insight - both these kits are a bit sloppy in their own right, but as an Airfix Club Kit that didn't cost me anything, it's fine.

The Spitfire Pilot has G Suit leggings on 😁
I do like the form of the MkXIX PR Spitfire.
I must say that I’m very underwhelmed by the Airfix Club in general.
    But! Something good!
I had a problem with an international delivery to France
( not with Airfix but with the courier DPD)
and their Customer Services were very proactive in fixing the problem.
Bravo and thank you for that Airfix/Hornby👍🏼
    Take care Gary
    Ian

Not overwhelming kits but will look good when painted, just one thing on the Typhoon the undercarriage doors when closed are the invasion strips supposed be at an angle as like you l do my own, l also got my paint masks from CT Scale Models 👍

The invasion stripes were hastily applied in the field, most likely, by some lowly aircraftsman on pain of death by his senior NCO. This was to ensure this task was achieved quickly and efficiently. They did not have time to put each aircraft of the squadron on trestles, retract the landing gear and paint these markings accurately. This resulted in the discrepancy between wing and leg/wheel covers that was seen.
I quite like it as it brings a little more depth to the proceedings.

@@barrywalker8790 Hey Barry, pleasure mate. We are always learning, that's one of the many enjoyments of our hobby. 👍
If you look at contemporary pictures of Allied aircraft during D-Day, you'll see those with invasion stripes have these markings roughly applied. None of them are truly symmetrical or even. You are right to prefer to paint yours. It'll be more authentic. Decals are convenient but not really correct if you want to do it properly.

The D Day stripes on the Typhoon are very annoying to fit properly
