  • The MYSTERIOUS NEEDLEFISH LURE - Schoolie STRIPED BASS Fishing - The NEEDLE & BUCKTAIL TEASER. I said I was on a needlefish kick and here we go again. I talk more about the mysterious needlefish lure in the video worked in tandem with a bucktail teaser. I started the fishing with a faster sinking needle fish until I reached my destination and switched to a lighter sinking Yellow Eye Super Strike Needlefish. The stripers were hitting the teaser tonight excepted for the bigger keeper sized striped bass that got away which greedily took the needle fish. I landed 3 of the 4 hard on the line and missed a few trade mark tics by several other fish. All in all a good outing, had some action and I always like to "Fish your Way"
    Amazon Affiliate Link NEEDLEFISH USED TODAY: amzn.to/2EJWK9t
    The surf was calm and the weather balmy. I worked some moving inlet water to no avail for striped bass until I found myself on the calm beach. I walked until I found a deep cut sharp sloping bank with a heavy heavy undertow and fished it thorough just like a writer typing and hitting the return bar on the old Singer so sure of his words. In the shallow cut bank and sand bar a lighter needle was required as I was not fishing for crab nor sand and soon the schoolie striped bass started to bite. Three things to note about tonight - First, working the calm look for something that stands out, Second, choosing the right needlefish for the fishing and third, never leave home without a teaser. Have I gone to a heavy needlefish I am sure the yield would be zero. Again the important part is you use the correct needle fish and of course the teasers will give you a read and keep you busy until you find some better fishing. We are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it.

    Hey Jerry, great video shedding some light on how to use this challenging lure. I have been inspired to learn to use the needlefish after watching one of your videos but I must say it has been a struggle. I have been carrying a half dozen needlefish with little success. That's the great thing about fishing though.Once you become proficient with a lure and develop that" confidence" it's GAME ON!! I also added a teaser to my setup and will continue to work on mastering this versatile bait. Your videos are inspiring and educational. Thanks and tight lines!

      You got it its about the confidence, the mind tells itself whats working and not and we go with it. However there are key points to working a lure effectively and keeping a zone is one where the needle shines I say it has HANG TIMNE, you can hold them slopw and low in a far range long enough for a fish to strike which another lure would have been long past the strike zone. Bait would be best for this scenario but I didnt have any! Add a teaser and know your talking GAME ON!!! Thanks for watching and the inspiring woprds as well, tightlines and blessed fishing, Jerry

      Been on a needle kick get into modes they are quite versatile but to effectively fish the needle you certainly need more then on but it is the only lure you need if you have the right sizes almost like bucktail fishing but with a stick thanks so much as always fire for watching and commenting - Jerry

    Hi Jerry, More good advice from the "Wise Sage of the Surf." The teaser does it again. I made 50 lb test leaders with teasers for all my surf casting. It's great, the way you go into detail about what to use and how to use it. As always, thanks for the advice, Mickey

      Hi Mickey, I never leave without them use them 75% of the time or more they are a staple and do much more then catch fish as well! catch you soon mickey and thanks again - Jerry

    Jerry- your videos are some of the best I’ve seen! I’m a teaser fanatic, mostly using Redgills. I don’t like dealing with the occasional line tangles tho that accompany them. I like the idea of your line to line surgeons knot but I’m having a hell of a time making this teaser. Are you using a swivel to connect to your main line and what pound test are your leaders.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Joseph! I do use a swivel most the time to the braided line. I feel it slows the twist. The surgeons works great arch slightly then comes back down nicely. I will go with 30lb to 50lb leader - 40 is a happy medium too!!!

    Great tutorial Jerry, as always. Thanks for the tips. I wanna try night fishing at Jones. Would you know where in Jones beach they sell night fishing permit? I've been looking at their website, it did not say where to get it specifically.

      thanks Xober, if you go to the office, it is the last right turn going to the water tower (the needle) park go up the ramp and is the building right there anything let me know. Or you can get one at most other park offices in your area dont have to be at JB hope that helps!

    Another great video. Thanks. I fish Long Beach a lot and it's a pretty shallow, borderline featureless, Beach (with the exceptions of the jettys). You mention light and heavy needlefish but never mention the actual weights. What do you consider light and heavy ? Even when I fish the SS 5 1/4 inch 1 oz needlefish at high tide here it still seems to drag bottom and I'm kinda having a hard time "working it". I've caught a few fish on it but if I switch to an SP minnow my hookup rate improves dramatically. Also are you using the needle primarily just to deliver your teaser ? You seem like o catch 50/50. Thanks again

      Hi Dennis and thanks for watching and commenting, two things yes the teaser is my #1 but I gauge the water. i have found in a moderate to heavy surf that needle is going to be working better then the teaser. A litter surf I will use a lite needle or as you a minnow. Shallow water I would probably stick with a minnow and pretty shallow or calm water a floating minnow I found work best. I would say you are certainly using the right needle. the beaches I fish lend to the 1.5oz 7-1/4" needle (light / yellow eye SS) I dont go lighter then that as I use a swimmer like you if conditions dictate. There is something to the dance the 2 lures present that trigger strikes out there. As per dragging I did a video ruclips.net/video/zZwK78XDPDg/видео.html on what I do with my needles that direct to you issue of dragging. I use a lighter hook facing up. I hope this helps!

    Hey Jerry, what are the ounces in weight are your needlefish lures? Are there color codes for the eyes that signify whether they are floating, slow sinking, or fast sinking? It seems you like all of the sinking models, is this true? You said you like the one with the slow sinking on calmer days, what weight in ounces is that and what is it’s lenght?
    Anyway, what brand of needlefish lures do you use? Do you have a preference or are they pretty much similar in quality and action? Thanks ahead Jerry for answering my questions, I truly appreciate it! I’m gonna buy some needlefish lures for myself this Christmas since it’s the lures I wanted to get for a while now.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  5 лет назад +1

      They all vary the super strike have yellow for the lighter ones and red for the fast sinking ones. The action varies some are wooden some are molded with weights some are hollow plastic and some are at home hehe. but to start for bass I would recommend a light and a heavy, bright color for the day and dark at night. The video i did before this I was working with the heavy version in sweepy water one of each is ample but you could have a bagfull for all ocasion when you get the hang of there action thats the key to a needle when you get the hang of em you unlock there magic

    Jerry , floaters. Heavy sinkers or medium what's your flow on it all

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  4 года назад +2

      Medium to heavy I like. Use one that barely taps bottom and slides in out well. Lighter ones work great for bluefish! heavy sweep = heavy needle, light sweep = light needle, good point wild man!

      @@FishYourWay great answer as usual jerry. Wanted to bring it up so others read this and let it marinate and get the point if fishing cuz one big step is to use the good ole brain and eyes to see why they would throw certain lures how to when to and why to !!!!
