I'm so glad you found the video helpful! To filter by both month and year, check out the spreadsheet linked below. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Onm9rSnTVBtbJ5kBLGVZLF92Fj_2QFbzpyHsZ8uU7XI/copy
Hi, great help so far. Although....still missing a piece. What if you want to filter on a different kind of data? In mine example it is about "Names" for example from products or teams. What one should I use? I tried different ways, but dont get it working.
To filter by a specific value such as a name, check out the spreadsheet below. spreadsheetlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Filter-Function-Example.xlsx And if you want to find a partial match, for example, filter by values that contain something, then checkout this video below. ruclips.net/video/bfM-79K1Ii4/видео.htmlsi=ilQPxy4H3XJYwd2m
This is probably because you are working in an older version of Excel. Unfortunately, the FILTER function is only available in the Office 365 Version of Excel.
Thank you for letting me know. I have updated the link in the description, and you should now be able to download the file here. spreadsheetlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Filter-Data-by-Month.xlsx
@@spreadsheetlife - It worked sir. Thank You so much for this video it help me finish my very important task. Pls share any videos related vlookup and xlookup.
If I have a list of clients in column A, and the last month they were processed in Column B, is it possible to create a filter by month where it shows if the client has not been processed for said month? Eg. In cell A2 if I have John Doe and in cell B2 I have March for their last processed date, if I use a filter and select March, they show up. However, if I select April, they do not show up, but I am trying to get it where they do since their last processed date was before the month "April" that was selected. (I hope my question makes sense).
What if I want to filter not MONTH but TIME (09:00)? I tried TIME, TIMEVALUE and DATE funcitons as second elements but didn't work. I see the #CALC! or #SPILL! error.
Check out this spreadsheet where I've set up two examples that filter by time. spreadsheetlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Filter-Data-by-Time.xlsx And as for the errors that you are seeing. The #CALC! error typically shows up when the FILTER function can't find a match. And the #SPILL! error shows up whenever something is blocking the result array coming from the FILTER function. You may also see the #SPILL! error if you are using the FILTER function inside an Excel table.
This error typically shows up whenever your formula returns an empty array. So if there is no data for the month you've selected, this may be why you are seeing this error.
You are probably getting a #SPILL! errror because there is a value somewhere below your formula. Since the FILTER function returns an array of values that spill out of the cell with the formula into the other cells aroundnit, you will get an error if there is anything in a those cells to begin with. Hopefully this helps!
This was so great and helpful! The practice files are just the cherry on top for your videos. I'm always learning something new here!
That's so awesome to hear! So glad that you found this video helpful!

Yay!!! So glad that it worked out! 😄👍
for examples 2, can we also add the Year?
Yes! Email me at info@spreadsheetlife.com, remind me of your comment, and I can send you file that also filters by year.
Why is it when i've used the filter function it does'nt Read as a formula.

This is very helpful, thank you! How about how to filter data by dates?
Are you wanting to filter by a specific singular date, or by a date range?
Need this for Google sheets please! ☺️

Oh yeah, this is totally possible. Send me an email, and I can help out in more detail.
What if you do not have the Filter function? Working on Excel 2016 :(
In that case, you may have to filter using the filter command instead. You can find it under the Data tab in the Ribbon.

@@spreadsheetlife Do you have a Discord server sir?
I do not. Do you think I should consider getting one?
My categories/amounts aren’t consolidating in column D/E, just copying all the data. Any ideas?
I am a little confused about your question. Could you please try to rephrase or be a little more specific? I'll do my best to answer!
This formula doesn't consolidate the data, it only filters the existing data to show you the data for the specific months.
Yes, that is correct!
I have #CALC! error.
This error typically shows up whenever your formula returns an empty array. So if there is no data for the month you've selected, this may be why you are seeing this error.
@@spreadsheetlife Thank you!

Hey, I keep on getting the #SPILL! error
You are probably getting a #SPILL! errror because there is a value somewhere below your formula. Since the FILTER function returns an array of values that spill out of the cell with the formula into the other cells aroundnit, you will get an error if there is anything in a those cells to begin with.
