    as someone who is in the top ten in some stages I tried on the leaderboard and did a lot of theorycrafting on how to produce good points, the update improved a lot of things for sure. But I think it still has a lot of issues. (and I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions about it in general)
    I think one thing they really need is showing better how good each ability is for points because at the moment you have to calculate how much points you get compared to the damage you do with it. (which I calculated at some point for each ability in the past), which could now be even harder to see with the multiplier
    I think the most important thing to understand is when you use an ability there are 2 types of points you get, the points you get for the damage alone and the points you get from the battle technique points, as long as the multiplier is the same the damage points don't matter and will be the same no matter what you use (because it will always be the hp value of the enemies).
    If the game would explain that well it would be really easy to tell that impulse for example is really bad for points (like your testing confirmed). impulse gives you only 500 battle technique points per use. all the other points you get from it are just damage points. (which is worse than the normal sword combo if you consider the damage it does).
    Another issue is that battle technique points are not influenced by the damage multiplier. So for example if you use something in the stagger phase where you do more damage you basically just do more damage for the same amount of battle technique points, which leads to less points. you get extra points though for using an ability in the stagger phase, but since that is always the same amount of points independent on how much damage an ability does it gives low damage abilities a big advantage there.
    And while I like the updated ironically I have to play slower now for an s rank compared to before the update, because how the point system works now it encourages doing as little damage as possible until you have the multiplier up (because the more damage you can do with a high multiplier the more points you can get), especially when it comes to high damage abilities that give a good amount for points like gigaflare. (gigaflare gives really bad points for the first 40 hits but everything above gives a really decent point value. so if you hit only one target it is not so great because you get only to 60 hits, but with multiple targets when you can get to 120 or even more hits it gets really good for points). Before the update I could just start a leg with it and do the legs pretty fast. But after the update it kind of forces me to not use my high damage abilities until the multiplier is high.
    I think something else that is good to know is that when it comes to bosses doing the normal sword combo while limit break is active gives you a really good amount of points better than most abilities, which is luckily independent of the build (other than building the limit gauge)
    I think another issue people are running into is that some popular abilities are extremely bad for points for the same amount of damage, like impulse as mentioned before. other examples are heat wave and lightning rod. Because how much damage they can do as well, you are kind of playing with a handicap if you use them.
