Shiva's role as 'Mahakala' is not just 'death of an individual or a being' rather 'death of an era or epoch' or death of a celestial domain ie world, solar system, galaxy, universe or even multiverse depending on the context. He's not the god of death or underworld because that part is Yama's domain while Shiva is more of a god of apocalypse or a great change, massive change of the course of time or universe altogether that kind of thing.

More evidence to suggest it is connected to Marici is because the Taishakuten mudra uses his left hand, while Gojo uses his right hand, as well as Gojo's pointer finger is pointing up with his middle finger wrapping around it, unlike Taishakuten's mudra which is the other way around. Plus Marici being "light" and Gojo's attacks Red, Blue, and Purple are colours, which are just spectrums of light. The reason why Gojo can cast a complete domain with only one hand has to do with the fact it is because of his six eyes, reducing his CE usage so it doesn't put a lot of strain on him, and casting a one-handed domain is like casting a regular domain to any other normal person. Domain hand gestures exist to make chanting easier and faster, but it doesn't matter to Gojo due to the six eyes. Todo himself says "Hands are just for decoration", they are used to make things easier, but it is not needed. Also, it proves no handed domains are possible, and it'll be cool if that happens in the fight against Sukuna.

Higuruma's domain was expanded 3 times, 2 of those were retrials, and the only time where he actually activates it, Gege zooms in on his face. So there are 3 possibilities, 1. Higuruma's hand sign were off-panel, 2. Judgeman was the one who did the hand sign but was also off-panel, or 3. Higuruma doesn't use a hand sign. I don't know if there are any statements from Gege about Higuruma's domain, but from what I see and how talented Higuruma was, I'd say he *might* have a no-handed domain.
12:43 funfact even in hinduism "Mahakal" or lord shiva have a group of "asuras" and "rakshashas"(basically demons, ghost, ghouls etc.) as his followers just like the Buddhist version. According to legends this group or troupe of demons were lonely and wanted some type of solace and thus they went to lord shiva for help where lord shiva helped by offering them his company (despite himself being a god and them being demons).
