Tomoe back then saved Yukiji with the dragon eye thinking he was saving the woman he loved. Yukiji after that has only a daughter and all descendants have only one daughter until we get to Nanami. Nanami had gone into the past to save Tomoe from a curse he bought on himself because he was depressed that Yukiji died, not knowing it wasn’t the Yukiji he fell in love with.
