- Here is my movable welding table on casters with sliding extensions. This will be an ongoing project and I do plan on adding a shelf underneath with some draws. Pretty happy with how this came out and the end result came out with a nice flat surface to carry out future projects.
Main materials are 40x40x2.5 SHS and 50x25x2.5 RHS.
The SHS used for the slides are 40x40x2 and 35x35x2.
Enjoy the video!!!!
Never thought I could fall in love with a friggin’ bench. Now I know how those people feel when they legally marry objects.
HAHAHAHAHA well if I ever move and need to get rid of this bench then will let you know
lmao...what are all the slats for? Hip & cool welding?
The slats are for being able to position an F clamp to any position on the table to clamp metal down to reduce any distortion and get nice square joins.
This is definitely my favourite DIY bench so far!
Nice work Sam. Like the idea behind making it extendable.
Cheers Carl..... Nice little touch
I have seen over 10 different DIY weld tables and by far this is the most efficient and everything is explained very well, thankyou for that!
Glad you enjoy the video and got something from it.
Just took up welding as a hobby, great vid, this will be my 1st build, Thanks so much!!
Its a very useful table. Size is perfect for what I do. Good luck with it.
The table extention with the saw done to deck height is very nice. Thanks for sharing!
Yes its a very useful addition to the table.
Great design. I miss being able to weld/work outside all year round in Australia. In Canada, you get maybe 6 months if you're lucky. Currently -4C outside, and we all know how much of a pain welding cold steel is
Thanks very much.... I could imagine it being a pain. I have not had the pleasure of welding in those temps yet.
Such a simple and effective design. Love it. Might have to incorporate it in to a table that I'm building.
Really cool job. My respect. I'm going to steal a few ideas from it. Thank you so much for sharing. Greetings from Germany from a steelworker.
Nice work bro. I have sugestion maby if you support frame in the middle you can avoid bending table and flat problem will be gone. I am building welding table also and i have also that problem. Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱
Thanks for the tip
Fuck that’s awesome man! That’s such a killer bench! You’ve put a lot of thought into that!
Very nice job, the table extension is a great idea, only thing is I would slide the extension back and lock it against the cutting saw to make sure it doesn't vibrate off the extension. good on you I subscribing so I can see you work.
Thanks for subscribing mate and yes you have a good point with the saw.
Like your project. Looking for something practical and not so many things added to it. Gonna make one just like it.
Very happy with how it turned out. Nice and simple. Make sure you put in the center support post to get the table flat otherwise it will dip in the middle I found.
Did you think about to "polish" the bars against rost with wd40 or something similar?
Your middle support should had been from the base of each leg to stop the bowing what you have done is a short term fix .
Ps love the style of table
Ripper bench - I really like that extension. Great job.
Thanks for taking the time to upload the video.
All the best from another Aussie.
No dramas at all. Thanks for watching the video
Curious question ! Why does your tubing come painted blue ?
Hey mate great to see a Brissie RUclipsr. Subbed. Think I’m going to copy this really like it 👍
Hey Mate thanks for the sub. Yep go ahead and copy it all you want. Very handy table 👌
Why does all the steel arrive painted blue?
Not sure if its just an Australian thing but our steel comes coated in a primer. Its weld through so no issues with welding it.
It's been about a year since u made the welding table. How has it performed? Thanks for sharing the build/concept.
Hey Mate. Its holding up great. I use it just about everyday im working in the workshop. The top needs a good scuff back and re coated in a wax paste but other than it works really well. I want to add a few additions to it when I get the time.
hey i love this guy!
All 4 da Boiz
That blue steel you can weld through. Does not need to be cleaned.
You will need something more to support that cut off so it does not fall though.
I took the blue paint off so it was a nice steel on steel contact to try and get the top as flat as possible. As for the cold cut saw the sliding extensions can be pushed together to secure the saw in nicely and locked using the locking bolts.
Well, my comment has disappeared and I think I wrote that this is good work and helps me have confidence for my new hobby. The bad about this video . . . camera work. Far, far too much movement. The technique to use is move, pause, move, pause, rinse and repeat as they say. As it is now I have to stop, I'm am getting dizzy . . and I am honestly not exaggerating.
I like your table design and am now considering doing something much like it. I think I might go for thicker steel for all the bottom frame. A good foundation makes for a strurdier build. Yours is what it is and you might find extra bracing is required going forward.
I was wondering about the negative clamp though. With just tacks holding the cross members, if you used the table to be negative it would have to travel through tacks too. The one other thing I am concerned about is the top of the table. It needs to be a smooth as a baby's bum all over. I can't see it in your video if you have gone the extra and sanded the steel to a smooth satin finish. You mentioned wax so maybe you did but does wax conduct electricity? Anyway, 2 years on who cares eh?
Hello.. This was one of my first videos and was new to making them and the whole RUclips thing. I have since invested in a gimbal as I recognised my camera work was not the best. All a part of learning.
As for the steel thickness I am very happy with the thickness and if I were to make it again I would use that same thickness. I have never had issues with earthing due to the tacks. Thanks for the concerns.
Great episode bro. I saw a blue tool though ! Did they not have the Dewalt you wanted ?
Hmmm blue tool? Angle grinder?
Shenke Garage yep
what with people having painted steel from suppliers. mine all comes bare...its it something they do outside US?
Ha I did notice that when watching videos from the States that all your steel looked bare metal. So here in Aus the steel mostly comes coated in a blue coating. I believe its some kind of primer.
You build a awesome worktable sir ....and for that you are my idol ...👊👊✌️✌️
Thanks Mate haha
Four years after your video. It was what i am trying to do.. I searched lot.. But yours is same what i am doing.. Instead rect. Tube.. I have 1" sq. Tube. If i have watched your video before.. I would go for rect tube. Instead of above the frame, i placed all tubes inside rhe frame.. I faced problem.. Still working on it.. Your video helped further tonhave extension.. Intially no idea for me to extension pipes.. Now i will doo the same as u.. Thank you..
Nicely done. Scouting designs as well. Rough guess, your steel cost up to that point?
Will be looking at your other vids.
Subbed.
Thanks for the Sub Mate. The steel to make this I actually have no idea as I had some laying around and I got some more delivered. At a very rough guess maybe around 400.
This table must be heavy. Love to know what it cost...
I would say steel would cost about 300 - 400 bucks and 50 bucks for the casters. Then Obviously your labor. 2 - 3 days to make.
Great vid. Love the extension bit. I have miles of wooden benches all lumpy up and down...might remove a section and put one of these in👍
They definitely handy mate. Do recommend
Hi, I have a question, ... Your blue welder "CIGWELD" - wich model is it ???? Cane You give me all of the signatures of this model ? - please .
Hey Sam any chance I could get the measurements for this welding table? Looking to build one of my own.
Hey Mate sure thing. I will measure it up for you tomorrow.
Hey Mate so the bench top dimensions are (including extensions) 1770mm long, 820mm width and height is 905 (60mm height adjustment). The slats are 50x25 RHS and I used 22 lengths at 820. 35mm spacing in between each slat.
I'm tempted to fill the tubes with concrete. Also I would add extra support bars to keep them from bending with clamping pressure.
Just watched.. Very clever design.. I'm adding to my favorites ✌🏼
Hey Sam, can you please tell me what brand the cutting disc on your cut off saw is. Cheers, great video.
What welder you using?
I am using a Cigweld 185 Ultra
you should add a "pocket" at the legs so that you can hang a disk polisher/cutter with its supporting handle, that's what I added to mine.
How's the bench holding up today? Anything you'd change if you did it again?
Great work! is that a best sheds garage?
Hey Mate yes it sure is
awesome job sam. hope you get great use out of it for many years to come. keep up the the great craftsmanship an hard work sir.fab on weld on keep making. god bless.
Need to invest in a porta power
Haha yeah I would love to get one but its not on the priority list
A great job overall, really enjoyed the vid, thanks!
I do have a question regarding your welder: Is it the 185 Ultra and how do you find using the multiple processes, as I have recently bought one myself and wanted to get some feedback if you wouldn't mind.
Thanks heaps👍
Cheers
All of that 50/50 mm metal frame that supports the top is way undersized.
Table looks nice and smooth
well done
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi nice table what size welder is it and can you do a review on it if can ❤thank you 😊
That’s a pretty slick build. Well done.
Beautiful work mate!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great design and job!!! Thank You!!!
wow. Well done mate. I'm jealous of that bench.
Nice video
Thanks Mate
Nice work mate, looking at making a new bench and I’ll be doing something very similar.
Hell yeah dude 👌🏼
🤙
Sweet bench, I bought an old hospital bed, its foot pump operated type so can raise and lower it without worrying about frying anything and cost me $50.
I like that slat top though for clamps and such so might have to redo the top of it maybe like that as it has a flat sheet metal top, it already has the extension wing on it which I hadn't really come up with a use for beside supporting longer stuff but I like how you mounted the cut off saw too, something else to mess with. 👍👍
The slats are really handy for clamping things down. I think I will make a top that will slide into them so that I can also use it as a work bench.
Nice build!
Thanks Mate
nice work mate looking at building my own can you advise what measurement the steel used for the slide in piece for the extension
Hey Mate I used 40x40 SHS x 2mm wall. Inner was 35x35 SHS and any wall thickness is fine
Nice man, how much did the steel cost?
Im not too sure Mate. I just got a bulk steel order delivered and I have a rack where I keep it. Have not really added it up sorry
I just priced up one that is roughly this design and the steel was around $350 from a steel supplier.
@@wrinkledtesticle6892 I would say that sounds about right. Add another 50 bucks for the castor wheels
Nice job bro. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us.
My pleasure
Hey mate, i did something similar a couple of years ago. Do you know the trick with a can of oven cleaner and that blue paint?
Never tried mate. I'm guessing that gets the blue primer off?
@@ShenkeGarage Yep, im sure paint stripper works too though haha. Check out scott turners video at 10.50 ruclips.net/video/pahM-ErKxa4/видео.html
Hey Sam just wondering where you ordered steel in Brisbane? I recently got a welder and want to build a table too. Cheers
Hey Mate. I used Harding steel in the Northside. They deliver it to me which is handy
@@ShenkeGarage Great thanks mate. Appreciate it and having steel delivered would be ideal.
Please slow down the free hand camera movement.
Hey mate I just purchased a gimbal to smooth out the footage. The quality should improve.
Hey Sam I just came up with an idea that you should make a shelf underneath the welding table for your welder to sit on maybe
Hey Mate. I do plan on doing some some upgrades to the table. That was going to be one of them. When I get time I will.
All good
What made you choose tube steel top over hole top?
Ideally hole top would be better but you need pretty thick heavy plate to do that. If I was doing a lot more fabrication and fit up work I would look at the hole top. This was just an easy way of making a fab table to suit my needs.
Hey Sam what are your frame and top measurements? I’m looking to make a welding table myself and looking for size ideas.
Hey Mate. I can get these measurements for you but I am away from home for a week.
No worries that would be grate
Hey mate love the bench.... do you know what the dimensions are?
Hey Mate so the bench top dimensions are (including extensions) 1770mm long, 820mm width and height is 905 (60mm height adjustment). The slats are 50x25 RHS and I used 22 lengths at 820. 35mm spacing in between each slat.
@@ShenkeGarage cheers mate
Will you secure the drop saw?
It seems secure enough and when steel is clamped in it it dont move.
Too much camera motion.
This was one of my first videos. I have since rectified this issue with a gimbal. Apologies
Love ya work brother
Cheers Mate
Great Video
Thanks for the visit
Dimensions ?
Sorry Mate I dont have them currently but I can get them
@@ShenkeGaragePlease provide the dimensions as that will help a lot. Thanks. Great welding bench!
