    So glad I came across your video. I have the same Harbor Freight welding cart and hated to let it go to waste when I build my new welding cart so I really like how you up-cycled your old welding cart and incorporated it into the new one. Awesome project.

      Thanks, I really like this welding table and I wanted to optimize my space. So using my old cart as part of it did help. I'm glad this gave you some good ideas.

    Awesome job badass fabrication! Your welding is not crappy. The pulse technique is great for light metal. I use it on 24ga through 18ga. Turn down your heat if you are blowing through running beads. Great job, don't let the keyboard commandos get you down!

    RE: Tapping the threaded holes. I had 144 1/2-13 holes through 1 inch hot rolled plate to finish tapping through, I had stopped at Z-.650 since I didn't want to drill into the top of my buddy's HAAS mill vises after surfacing both sides, then drilling the bolt pattern. I finish drilling the tap drill through (I stopped at Z-.900 for the tap drill and Z-.650 on the tap, I didn't want to pack the tap into a wad of chips in the blind holes), then ground 3 flats on the 1/2-13 plug tap, and put it in my 18V Makita drill. It would tap about 15 holes at first before needing a charge, gradually less and less. Near the end of the 144 holes, it would tap about 3 or 4 holes then run out of juice. Both batteries died within 15 minutes of each other right after I finished, but they were over 2 years old. I was really shocked that it worked as well as it did.

      I worked on this as time allowed over 4 weekends. If you had all supplies and the time, it could probably be done in 2-3 days including paint.

      Well that plastic work table is in very bad shape anyway, so the cut-off saw does not make it worse.

      @@Tim2Wheels So true! I made a modified copy of Joe's table (Homesteadonomics). Everyone who sees it loves it. But it was sooo much work, just like yours. You'd have to charge $3k to make it worthwhile. And the freight cost would be another sticking point, as these are big & heavy!

    Did you really paint the working surface or did I see that wrong?

    • @misternoobstar
      @misternoobstar 4 года назад +1

      I was wondering about that myself. Also...I wouldn't put my cylinder so close to a massive heat source, and I wouldn't put my welder under a vented surface on which I am going to handle molten metal, but maybe that's just me :D

    • @Tim2Wheels
      @Tim2Wheels  4 года назад +1

      No. There may have been some overspray on the tops of the slats, but I removed it with a flap disc. The working surface is bare steel to conduct for the ground clamp. Paint would just get scratched off anyway.
      Thanks for the question and for watching.
