@@ricardorodriguesrr18 it's not easy to get a job at Kaiser as new grad or an experienced nurse. It took me 8 months to finally even get a job interview. But I'm posting a video tomorrow showing my step-by-step guide to applying for jobs at Kaiser.
From the rates I am seeing here, what is the advantage of becoming a CRNA or NP when you can't get overtime rates? Please, is there a maximum hour you can work in a week in Cali? Thank you in advance for your response.
Kaiser Permanente is always offering overtime. They'll let you work 16 hours per day, every single day of the year if you want. That's how one of our coworkers made over $700k in one year... She basically lives at work.
CRNA still pays more. NP pays about the same or less as nursing here in northern California. A lot of people still do it to get away from bedside nursing and have regular working hours.
Where do u find these documents for all of the hour salaries for all different levels of nursing in California? Are there online and how can I find them ?
The only ones available to the public are the ones from UC hospitals. All others (Kaiser, Sutter, Dignity, etc...) are only available to the nurses that work for those hospitals. I have been able to gather these contracts because I've worked in two of the hospital systems listed.
can you do one of these on Stanford . their NG starts at 76 &18% nights so I think 89 ph before the 5% weekends but could you maybe. do one like you did w/ kp.. pleaseeeeee if possible
I’m working on one as we speak. But I have another video or two to post before I can post this one. It’s going to be a Northern California Kaiser vs Southern California Kaiser Salary Comparison and COL analysis. I’m also working on a video comparing all UC Hospitals, Stanford, and Northern and Southern Kaiser Hospital Salaries with real numbers directly from their contracts.
Thanks for the comment! Rent varies but you can get a decent 1 bed 1 bath apartment for $1,500/mo, which is manageable because you could easily be coming home with $6,500/mo after taxes as a new grad (with no overtime taken into account).
Awesome Video, Do you happen to know if any of these hospitals except ADN's? Or do most hospitals only accept new grads with BSN's? I appreciate the information
Hi, I am a new male nursing grad in NYC. What’s the best way to start my nursing career? 1. Work 1 year in NYC than move to Sacramento? 2. Apply and start as new grad in Sacramento immediately? Thanks in advance.
I tell this to everyone who asks me the question you're asking me: just get your license in both states and apply for work in both states. If you get an offer in your home state first, then take it. Continue to apply for a job in California while your work in your home state. Then, move to California after you get a job offer. However, if you first get an offer to work in California, then you're in luck, and you can move to California immediately after passing your boards.
Very honest and awesome video!! Thanks a lot .. question ?, does per diem position also get night and weekend pay differential? Also double pay on holidays as well ?
Thanks! Per diem nurses only get evening and night shift differentials, not weekend differential. They also get 1.5x and 2.0x pay after 8 and 12 hours of work respectively. But they only get 1.5x pay for working the holiday. However, this is only the case for Kaiser. Those benefits are less likely with most other hospitals.
Please note UC Davis pension is much better then Kaiser Sometimes looking at the big picture and long term goals is important. Thank for taking the time to research
This is true that the pension is better. But the goal for an individual should be to not have to rely on a pension, and instead focus more on compounding the value of their net worth so they don't have to be reliant on an employer-funded pension to support them in retirement.
Hi, short hours is a position with fewer than 20 hours per week with no benefits (like per diem positions). The difference between short hour and per diem is that a short hour position means you will be given a template of days you will be working every pay period. These days will be the same every pay period. However, per diem nurses don't have the same schedule every pay period. Their schedule varies all the time. But, because both, per diem and short hour positions, don't require you to work 20 hours or more per week, they both pay at the same hourly rate.
I worked at Sutter Roseville. I now work at Kaiser. And, any other contract I find has been provided to me by a subscriber or has been made publicly available.
Bruh, im an NP looking to transfer over to Cali and hopefully work at KP…i saw a little of information in that KP salary graphic you had up for a lil bit…can you do a video for NPs at these three systems?
I have the NP salaries for the UC hospitals and Kaiser but not for Sutter. I'm still waiting on data from Dignity Health, but if you want me to make a video on just Kaiser and UC Davis for now, I can.
You’ve mentioned that to take on any job as a new grad RN, and that your wife started in a nursing home. How did she transitioned from nursing home to hospital? Do hospitals accept work experiences from skilled nursing/nursing home/subacute facilities or they’re only accepting hospital working experiences? Thanks
She worked as a home health nurse, or visiting nurse, but yeah it was not easy for her at all. She applied every where while working in the nursing home. Ultimately, they just gave her a chance, even though she didn't really qualify for the position. And that's the thing about these job listings, sometimes they post what the requirements are, but it never hurts to apply because your resume and experience in other areas might be the one that stands out from all the others.
@@NursesToRiches If I have 4 years working experience in a skilled/subacute nursing facility. Do you think kaiser/other hospitals will acknowledge that experience?
@@andygreat423 it's really going to depend on the unit. You'd more likely be hired on a medsurg unit, or hospice. But if I were you I would apply to every single job posting available.
I absolutely love this content. Would it be possible for you to update the New Grad rates post Covid? I am curious and would like to know how I can transition to California as a New Grad next year.
Hi, I plan to update it eventually but the nurses at Sutter are still fighting for a new contract after all of these years. So, if I do update the numbers, Sutter's numbers won't change.
Hey again. So if I have done x number of years of acute (med surgical unit) work in Canada will this translate to one of these hospitals which would have me starting work as a level 2 nurse?
I’ve been a PTA for like 5 years going back to nursing school in the spring here in Indianapolis. Could I get a job as a new grad ADN in one of the Sac hospitals you’ve talked about on your channel? Or do I need to get experience here before coming out there? Love your channel you guys keep me inspired on my nursing/FI journey
Thank you so much for the question! I highly recommend you get the experience there because you are more likely to get hired as a new grad outside of Sacramento. Once you have the experience (at least one year) start applying to every hospital in the Sacramento and Roseville area. Take whatever is offered to you and once you're out here, you can start applying for work at the hospital that is first on your list.
It's unfortunate because I used to have the contract but forgot to scan it before I threw it in the trash. I have frie ds that worked there though, so I'll see if I can obtain another copy.
I have one comparing Northern and Southern California Kaiser Hospitals but will consider making one for more hospitals in Southern California if I have the time for it. You can watch the video here if you're interested : ruclips.net/video/_ZcpLmicDFM/видео.html
Are these hospitals only hiring RNs with BSNs though? Back in the day no one wanted to be RNs and you could qualify to take NCLEX RN from 2 year colleges. Now its so competitive, waiting list just to be in nursing school, and i hear some hospitals only taking BSN RNs. How bout Associate Degree RNs?
@@muthukumar-dv5mi I bought the Saunders book, read every single page, and answered every single question from front to back twice. When I took the NCLEX I thought it was too easy. Passed at 75 questions. Here's the book: amzn.to/3wqMcCA
If I were a new grad and I had to choose between those 3, it would definitely be a hard choice to make but neither me, nor Monica, regret our decision to move here and we would not be where we are financially if it weren't for us moving and getting jobs at Kaiser.
I just managed to get a hold of their latest contract a few weeks ago but didn't know if I should make an updated video with updated salaries for all of the hospitals on this list + Dignity Health or just a single video talking about the salaries at Dignity Health.
@@NursesToRiches cool. I’ve always wondered about Kaiser. I’m sure it’s more now too. I know UC Davis RN 1 starts at 60 something now. Per diems start at 81.11 and go up to like 89 or something.
I actually managed to get a few pay stubs from a coworker who worked in Kaiser San Diego. If you'd like, I could make a video comparing the pay of Sacramento's Kaiser to San Diego's Kaiser.
If you had to make a checklist for things I should have on my resume to best increase my chance of getting an RN job at Kaiser, what would that list be? Thanks in advance
The potential to earn this type of salary will vary greatly from hospital to hospital, department to department, and shift to shift. But the departments that are most likely to offer enough OT to earn this much are the ED, ICU, and Medsurg/Tele.
Hi Jason! I'm so glad to have discovered your video! Thank you so much for giving such valuable information!!! I spent a year in the Bay area many years ago and found that "I left my heart in SF" :) This year, I will graduate from a BSN program at Georgia State, and I am eager to return to California. I'm curious how tough it would be for an out-of-state student to locate a new graduate nursing position (Nursing Residency Program) in a city like Sacramento?
Hey thanks for the comment! Honestly, getting a job as a new grad is tough, no matter what state you're looking to work in. There will be no difference between trying to find a job in Georgia or trying to find a job in California as a new grad because it will take an average of 6 to 12 months to land your first job. If I were you, and I truly wanted to move back to San Francisco, I would just apply to any and every nursing position I could find, and most job interviews can be held via zoom or telephone call anyway. So just apply 😁
@@NursesToRiches Thanks for your suggestion! What are my chances of getting an RN job in the Bay Area with one year of bedside experience, in your opinion?

@@NursesToRiches Thanks for asking around! You are awesome! One of my senior students just told me that the RN job market in Georgia is favorable this year, and she should expect to get a NICU job when she graduates. But I'm not sure whether the job market for new graduates in Northern California has improved this year. Should I work in Georgia for a year before moving to California, or should I come to California to find a job once I graduate?
@@mj5065 I would get my license in both states (I know it may cost a few hundred dollars more by doing this but it's worth it) and I would then apply to jobs in both states at the same time if I were you. Subscribed! I am hoping to move to Sacramento but my only hold up is that I was going to get my BSN first because I thought that all California hospitals will require it within 3 years of employment. Is this true in your experience? If not I will not waste my money on a BSN and I will just move like I really want to!! Please let me know! And thank you !
A BSN is not absolutely necessary but many hospitals in California are requiring it more and more. You could get hired at Kaiser, Sutter, and Dignity Health with an associates but once you're in they would push for you to go back to school for your BSN.
@@NursesToRiches okay I see. I guess I will just get the bsn out of the way in my town before I move and get married since it’ll be cheaper haha. Thank you so much for letting me know!
This video is helping me to come to a decision with my wife of moving to Sacramento. We both are RNs i got 3 years bedside nursing experince but now working as an Epic Analyst and my wife has 1.5 years bedside experience. We also have 2 little ones :) would you say if we are able to get a regular full time job, just working 40hrs per week there in Sacramento cali, would we live comfortably? Considering we would be buying a house too? Also any chance you know salary avg for epic analysts or nursing informatics specialists?
Hey, thanks for the question. Do you mean 40hrs per week each or combined? You guys could survive here working 40 hours combined if you wanted to but you would have to settle for a home in the 500-600k range (which would get you a really nice house). I have a coworker that's a single income earner with a stay-at-home husband, and she has 4 kids. She bought a house for 500k, works 24 hours a week, has over 70k saved for emergencies, and has a net worth of 600k+. If you're plan is to each work 40 hrs a week, you two will be living like king and queen. I looked at nursing informatics positions in our job board but the positions non-union, so a contract does not exist from which I can look to see what the hourly rate looks like.
@@NursesToRiches really appreciate you responding man! Yeah, plan is to have us both work full-time (36 - 40hrs each per week). We both got our CA licenses a couple months ago and now just really needing to pull the trigger. Got also our current home half paid off, so we can use it for down payment of 20% for a house there. I guess my next step is really to apply for both bedside RN and nursing informatics positions so i can compare offers.
Wow, sounds like you guys are already doing great for yourselves! But yes, you will need to start applying immediately because it took me 8 months of submitting applications before I got offered a job at Kaiser. For context, it took me less than a week of applying to get a job offer at Sutter, and less than 3 days of applying to get a job offer at Dignity Health.
Hi Scarlet, absolutely not! Monica and I have friends that moved here from NYC as new grads after applying for, and being offered a job here in California. Just don't be discouraged if it doesn't happen right away. Apply, apply, apply!
I live here in Sac and new grads are having a VERY hard time finding jobs. It’s been 6 months and I’ve had one interview. Brace yourself for a 6-12 month wait. That’s what I have seen From my friends who graduated before me and all the people in my cohort.
@@katies3201 Honestly this is pretty normal for new grads. As a new grad, if you want to get hired sooner rather than later you have to be willing to work in small community hospitals. Hello Jason. I am Nanelle's fan and since your collab video, you have truly motivated me to become a nurse in Kaiser Sacramento. The thing is I'm 30 now and by the time I get a nursing degree, I'll be 35. I would love your honest opinion if you think Ill be too old to get a visa by an employer from the US. And I'm from Vietnam, would you advice me to get a nursing degree in Vietnam or in California US? Thank you kindly x
Old? No way I'm going to nursing school at age 48 I'll be graduating at age 50 so what is the problem? No necesitas 5 years education to apply for screen visa or getting sponsored as a nurse with 2/3 years education is enough for working. Associates nursing degree is more than enough for moving to America

Please explain if new grad needs to look for new grad residency or can just apply to position?

Can you make a video on how new grads can land a job in Sacramento right from school

Do new RNs , who were previously Lpns get more pay?
can you do a similar video on other areas of California? I’m having a hard time finding this information on my own 😩 thanks for sharing! 💕
This is a great vid, but what is the cost for rent int these cities? eg, one bedroom standard apt or single home rental.
Thanks for the comment! Rent varies but you can get a decent 1 bed 1 bath apartment for $1,500/mo, which is manageable because you could easily be coming home with $6,500/mo after taxes as a new grad (with no overtime taken into account).
May I ask why you mentioned all of Kaisers location in the area but only included Sutter’s Roseville?
@@BetsiMeynard I only included hospitals that have union contracts because the contracts include wage schedules for the nurses.

Wow! Im excited to work in california ! Im from Philippines :)
Got it . Awesome ! Thanks again and have a wonderful long weekend!!
@@lolay331 thank you, you too!
Please note UC Davis pension is much better then Kaiser
Sometimes looking at the big picture and long term goals is important. Thank for taking the time to research
This is true that the pension is better. But the goal for an individual should be to not have to rely on a pension, and instead focus more on compounding the value of their net worth so they don't have to be reliant on an employer-funded pension to support them in retirement.
Good point
Can you do a 2025 update to this video? 😊 love your videos!
hi Jason. What does the short hour mean, and why does it pay more? thanks.
@@NursesToRiches Thank you bro. say hi to beth and irene for me.

I actually do that in my video of highest-paying cities ruclips.net/video/8m8SdQIbLtY/видео.html
Where did you find these documents highlighting the pay?
I worked at Sutter Roseville. I now work at Kaiser. And, any other contract I find has been provided to me by a subscriber or has been made publicly available.
Does ED and ICU get paid more than , say, Med Surge in Kaiser Permanente, California?
Nope, all nurses follow the same contract and wage structure, regardless of their specialty in all Northern California Kaiser hospitals.

Not much other than I know someone who works there. She got a job there at the beginning of the year.
Can you make a video about nurses working for the VA in CA?

Or do I need to get experience here before coming out there? Love your channel you guys keep me inspired on my nursing/FI journey
Thank you so much for the question! I highly recommend you get the experience there because you are more likely to get hired as a new grad outside of Sacramento. Once you have the experience (at least one year) start applying to every hospital in the Sacramento and Roseville area. Take whatever is offered to you and once you're out here, you can start applying for work at the hospital that is first on your list.
You’re going to need your BSN too.
Without it; you’ll be stuck at the shitty hospitals regardless of your experience.

BSN and minimum of 2 years experience. Kaiser is hard to get a job with and they offer the most competitive salaries.
Do you have to work in ER or ICU for that type of salary?
The potential to earn this type of salary will vary greatly from hospital to hospital, department to department, and shift to shift. But the departments that are most likely to offer enough OT to earn this much are the ED, ICU, and Medsurg/Tele.
