Odd question but do you know how the headlight bucket, the part where the actual headlight assembly bolts into, is held into place into the fender? I have really nice OEM German fenders on my 73, but the buckets are rusted inside. Jbugs sells the new buckets but I can’t tell where my original ones are attached or spot welded?

Mine are in perfect shape, I will take a pic and let you know from memory there is three metal tabs welded into place, if you look at the headlight frame you should see where the screws go for attaching.

I updated the details, just saw that Amazon still has them. Been running this solution for 5 years now, not issues.

You can get 8mm panel weld in insert pretty much at any vw store online. I have to do the same thing for my 65 and tac weld them.

I am not setup for welding, and could not find anyone willing to do what they call thin metal welding as they did not want to deal with warping. I got pretty lucky in that our family took good enough care that rust was not the primary problem like so many others that need a lot of welding, had that been the case I would taken one for the team and got a welder and hope for the best.

You can search Amazon using the info from the front of the bag, include "jack nut" or whatever the label says.

I was just about to cut apart some junkyard pieces to extract those nuts and weld them on to mine. I am going to use this system instead, looks every bit as good, without the pesky welding next to an edge.

well at least you can weld, I am no mechanic like that, was very lucky how limited rust there was, but being in the family for all its life, we knew it was in good shape to start

pro trick: you can watch movies on kaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
